Police have just released communication recordings from a high speech chase involving a stolen school bus in Albuquerque, NM. But this wasn‘t just any ol’ school bus-involved high-speed chase. No, this one involved three sets of spike strips, driving on flat tires, and police firing both bean bag and actual bullets to finally stop the driver.
ABC2 reports:
Police received several warning calls about this stolen school bus that was tearing down the highway at high speeds.
About a half dozen police officers gave chase. The pursuit had the crippled bus barreling down the road at more than 75 miles an hour.
Police say the suspect Nathaniel Shipman stole the bus. Authorities wound up using three stop sticks and a pit maneuver to stop the runaway bus.
But even then the suspect did not surrender. Police used bean bags and fired bullets to stop him.

Posted on March 14, 2012 at 10:56amCar chases are becoming too prevalent, they waste huge amounts of resources and endanger the public. The use of deadly force is justified and will bring this nonsense to an end.
I’d love to see a helicopter camera close-up of one of these thugs mugging to the camera right at the moment his head explodes. Problem solved.

Posted on March 14, 2012 at 7:56amGee wiz, there must have been 30 cop cars following…what were they all gonna do? Maybe they were all engaged in their own little NASCAR race and were using the occasion as an excuse?

Posted on March 13, 2012 at 3:50pmIt sounds like the police need a pursuit policy. What ever happened to 1 pursuit vehicle, 1 communication unit, 1 supervisor? Half a dozen is increasing the risk beyond common sense. The radio is supposed to be used to place other units in position at various places that the suspect might travel. The post that mentioned redneck, was spot on.

Posted on March 13, 2012 at 4:08pmAdmit it Chips, you’re just jealous. How many times in, say, the last 6 months have you had the chance to be involved in a high speed chase involving a school bus driving on flat tires with a whole police dept. (and probably a football team or two) in hot pursuit? And all this while firing their weapons. Do you seriously see a safety hazard here?
