Did Cornel West Really Tell Herman Cain to ‘Get Off the Symbolic Crack Pipe’?

On Monday’s CNN Newsroom with Suzanne Malveaux, controversial Princeton professor Cornel West blasted Herman Cain’s comments that racism does not play a large role in unemployment among African Americans. To drive his point home, West, who asserts “black people have been working hard for decades,” said Cain should: “Get off the symbolic crack pipe and acknowledge the evidence is overwhelming.”
“I think he also knows that if brother Anthony Davis, a brother who was just put to death, were a white Wall Street banker brother, that the response in the nation would have been very different, as opposed to being a poor black brother.” West added.
“And that’s just one small example, one very small example of that, of racism still at work holding people back.”
First, Sheila Jackson Lee called Cain an “Oreo” and a “race traitor” now, he is being accused of smoking a metaphorical “crack pipe” — and the verbal assaults are being waged by members of the African American community. What will come next?
Watch West’s latest contentious remarks below, courtesy of Mediaite:
For reference, Cain stated:
“I don’t believe racism in this country today holds anybody back in a big way. Is there some – are there some elements of racism? Yes. It gets back to, if we don’t grow this economy, that is a ripple effect for every economic level. And because blacks are more disproportionately unemployed, they get hit the worst when economic policies don’t work. That’s where it starts.”
“I have seen blacks in middle management move up to top management in some of the biggest corporations in America. They weren’t held back because of racism. No. People sometimes hold themselves back because they want to use racism as an excuse for them not being able to achieve what they want to achieve.”

Posted on October 11, 2011 at 12:03amI am a black conservative who grew up in Chicago and went to grade school with Michelle Obama.I can say that this “Oreo” card has been used for decades to describe black people who believe in self-responsibility. Socialist/communist even in slavery times did the same thing. W.E.DuBois criticized Booker T Washington for saying that run away slaves should be productive part of the economic system and not expect to be given anything for no work. It is ironic that DuBois started the NAACP and Booker T was a free enterprise capitalist. I learned how to think critically and recognized the socialist cool-aid I was taught in the Chicago School system. Oreo stands for “black person who thinks for themselves and does not follow ”group think”.
This is the only thing the liberal left can attack Cain with since he removes the “race card”.

Posted on October 11, 2011 at 6:30amIt’s not just jealousy. Herman Cain blasts out of the water their theory that whitey is at fault. They can’t have a black man succeed. With Obama, they could point to the fact that he was half white, if he had succeeded. They could still claim we were racist because we only elected him because he was half white. With Herman Cain there is no excuse for his success beyond whitey isn‘t as racist as we’d like all the brothers to believe. Then where would their excuse be to sit on the porch and wait for the check? He (Cain) might actually be a role model to get the “brother” off the government dole, voting repubilcan and working.

You are exactly correct. Every day on my way to work, I pass the Booker T housing projects in Columbus, Ga. It is one of the worst areas hear, with high crime, drugs, and loaded with the welfare crowd. When you drive by, you see crowds of young men with the long nappy braids, walking along with one hand used to hold up their pants.
I knew the name Booker T, and new he was a voice for blacks, but was ignorant to who he really was. About six months ago, I did a quick study on him. I was blown away. Basically, he said free stuff from the government would ruin his people. He only asked for education. He said if black people became experts in agriculture, industry, and made and saved a considerable ammount of money, they could not be denied. he knew that excellecne would become equality.
the rhyming reverands of today hate that message. It does not jive with their message of socialism. One only has to look at these projects, see the seven in ten blacks born to single parent homes, the crime, the drugs, the abortion rates, and know that Booket T was correct.
If you could bring Booket T back and show him these projects, I bet he would vomit, and tear his name off the sign.

Posted on October 11, 2011 at 7:16amJust a few short weeks ago, Cornell West appeared on Fox. At the time, he was highly critical of progressive ideology. He claimed he was a liberal, but listed several Libertarian principles he espoused. West had wandered WAY off the plantation. What we are witnessing here a couple of house slaves calling out the freedman for his disloyalty to the brothers and sisters on the plantation.
Cain is living proof that racism exists mostly in the minds of the racists. If you expect to be a victim, you seal your fate and live as a victim. Cain never did that. He was never on the plantation. He is the antithesis of Obama, Smiley, West, Sharpton, Jackson and all the rest of the house slaves that keep telling the field slaves that they are victims. God bless Cain.

Lack of morals, corruption in the schools and especially the so called churches who preach that hate. I fear for our country. It was one nation “indevisible”. Now it’s divided by all of the social programs that hard working folks are paying for and are suddenly waking up to because their liberties are now being taken away….just to make sure more folks who don’t choose to work and know how to game the system. The progressives ate up the democratic party. The shinining examples of failed cities who have had those leaches sucking the blood from every working person to perpetuate the myth that have ruined very industrious cities. Detroit is a shining example. There are hundreds of others. Margaret Thatcher said it best. Socialism works great until you run out of other peoples money. Posted on October 10, 2011 at 11:17pmAnybody heard of the 8-A program for construction in our federal government. Minorities, primarily women owned or African-American owned companies get preferential projects. They “merely” have to justify their costs for the project. They go to Home Depot and prove that if you choose to buy a three drywall screw pack from Home Depot, it costs…let’s say $2.00. Now, they justify that the project HANDED to them requires for completion 100,000 drywall screws. They justify it and purpote they are going to spend $200,000 in drywall screws. The governement throws a blind eye to it know well and good that the 8-A Contractor is going to go to a COMMERCIAL Supplier and purchase those same drywall screws for a couple of hundref dollars like all real contractors do. See the math here. And if you are not in construction, there are thousands of materials to be purchased for any project. The entitlement program only lasts for 8 years, thus the 8-A designation. The feel good thing the progressives sold us is after 8 years of being on the dole, these folks will now know how to run a company, have cash in the bank for bonding and then remain in business. After the average 8-A program has made those millions, off the back of the taxpayer…..guess how many remain in business for the ninth year….Hold your breath….less than 1%. They take the money retire and run and imagine this, they set up their children to dupicate it in a new 8-A company. Wake up America.

On the subject of actually enjoying victim-hood, here is a funny story. Years ago I worked for a private security company at the airport, before TSA took over. I forget if this regulation started before 911 or after but the gov regulated security requirements then too. We were required to do random bag searches all the time, we weren’t real good about doing it but we were supposed to always have a bag to check. It was late and we weren’t busy. A young adult black man came through and the searcher grabbed his bag and explained he needed to check it. The guy claimed racism. The bag searcher was black but didn’t want trouble so called the supv, also black, the guy was still claiming racism, getting really disruptive, so she called the cop over…..you guessed it, black. The guy literally throws his hands up in disgust and yells,”You’ve got to be kidding me!!”. He dropped his race card and let them search the bag. Too funny!!! I’ll never forget. Oh just so you know we weren’t all black there. We had a lot of hispanics and some whites. It just happened to be a black guy searching bags. Our Supv and the cop were black. Everything worked for the good.

Posted on October 10, 2011 at 10:22pmOnce again you have talking heads that take what Herman Cain out of context. Herman is stepping on some sensative toes and the left does not like it! Newt and Herman BOTH have valid points in their statements. We know they both have valid statements as well as those in the Obama media. We need to focus back on to those issues that matter most to this country. That’s deciding who is going to run this country for the next four years.

Posted on October 10, 2011 at 10:51pmCornel West described himself as a “none-marxist socialist” (oxymoron). He is also an academic intellectual. It’s a common trait for these leftist crazy marxist intellectuals to sport crazy hair like that. It‘s a pattern I noticed from these types I don’t know why.

Report Post »Redscot
Posted on October 11, 2011 at 9:16amWolfman Jack was the name of a northern California late night radio dj. Please don’t confuse a rock & roll guy who actually worked for a living to West. West is racist goon who pretends. Cain has worked hard for what he has. He turned himself into what he is is by going to school, working hard, and trying. West got a phoney degree for being “Black”. If I had to choose between the racist goof-ball and a man that has proved that he can cut it, hands down – Cain wins.

They (radical Black Marxists) hate the idea that Conservatives may actually honor MLK and his message of “judging a man by his character not his skin color”. It levels the playing field for all, and some minority so-called leaders just can’t stand the thought of being equal.
