Cornel West: Ultimate Push for Entitlements Will Be ‘Fought in the Streets’ by Occupy Movement

During an appearance on MSNBC Monday, Princeton University professor Cornel West told host Martin Bashir that, ultimately, the war for entitlements will be “fought on the streets” by the Occupy movement.
“I think the problem is that the poor children, keep in mind it’s 42% of poor children who live at or near poverty, it’s 25% in poverty. Our audience needs to keep that in mind,” West started.
Regarding new entitlements for the poor, West said, “Poor children need more than just a $1,000 for their family, they need a war against poverty to make it a major priority in the way which we have a priority for Afghanistan, and a priority to bail out banks, and a priority to defend corporate interests when it comes to environmental issues.”
After heaping praise on the Occupy movement for raising awareness, West said, ”It’s a major question of priorities here. That’s why the Occupy movement is so important because some of this is going to be fought in the streets. Civil disobedience does make a difference,” he said.

As someone whose family lives at the poverty level temporarily, we don’t need any extra help. I don’t even take (or want) all the help that’s available. Seriously… the government offers my little boy free lunch at a school he attends for 45 minutes a week… no thanks, I’ll cook him a meal at home. I don’t need a free cell phone either – I have a prepaid phone that costs me between $20 and $50 to operate for a year; they’re not necessary items.
Additionally, the government did nothing for my friend and her three children this summer when they were homeless. All their help came from private sources. They’re not homeless now because relatives took them in (as it should be). My other friend who was homeless also was not helped by the government. A person helped him, not some mindless bureaucrat.
What we need is the government to get out of the way so people can invent things and start businesses so our country can become prosperous again.

The problem is the values of todays socalled poor people who give the truly poor and needy a bad name. Your version of the poor are a bottomless pit or a ever consuming great white shark that has a Boa size tape worm. Its a shame that they’ll never learn the lesson that it is bad news to take from your brother without first doing for yourself what you ought to under your own power. You will never learn this lesson because the whole system will collapse so the disparity and its real reason between the socalled poor and the rich will not have to be explained because that will be too painful and make people feel bad. But once we are all there, it will not matter who was right or wrong, we will all be starving and killing each other in the streets. We will have to define all the rules all over once again. Hopefully Jesus will not allow this to happen because his people will suffer too much as well and the numbers of the holy will be tested to their limits and may fail. Lord willing, he will so his mercy and reveal himself to all and soon.

In Policalized Science, money raised for poverty is merely a bench mark, scare tactics to raise money, that makes community organizers look good. Policalized Science never solves poverty issues, because poverty raises money, poverty issues just become bigger and bigger every year. If the leftist of the United States of America were to accually solve poverty problems, they would be out of a job. They themselves will not be able to provide for themselves, becoming impoverished. Therefore, Democrats will always be certain that there will always be large number of children in poverty.
Any person can learn any concept at any age in some form. We can counter poverty issues by informing children on how to grow into an environment that may be better for them. Only they will decide what’s better for them. What’s really awful about Haiti, is people sending stuff. That doesn’t really help the people. You send them stuff that may make them ok for a short period of time. What the people of Haiti and other places like that, are in need of valuable information, like learning skills of a trade. Increasing self interest to better the community they are in, or becoming more skillful so to adapt into another community.

What an amazing country that we even have the resources to get millions of people into such a predicament. Lets admit the black community has failed, lets admit they cannot ever rise to the occasion except for the extreme rare examples that can barely even register on per capita basis. They constantly must be told how good they are to cover for what we’ve been made, forced to be blind and dumb to. They are a inferior people and always will be. They do not have the wherewithall to stand on their own two feet without standing on someone elses shoulders.

Nobody helped me other than family and friends. The leeches who he believes are entitled are not looking for a hand up, they are looking for a hand out. Life for someone who is unwilling to work, should be uncomfortable. They do not deserve a free TV, cell phone, private living quarters, health insurance or any other luxury; from myself or any other taxpayer. Get off your a@# and work for what you want. It is possible. If I break into your house and steal a TV to give to someone else, I would be called a THIEF. The Gov. breaks into my paycheck every week and steals to give to those who choose to be leeches on society. I have worked 50-60 hrs/wk most of my life, and I am barely keeping my head above water, why because I’m dragging a bunch of dead weight. Get off my back leeches. Why is it uneconomical to manufacture in the US? Because every time a worker touches a product in the US taxes are added to the cost of the finished product. That is why a product from Mexico costs $ 5.00 while the same product mfgrd in America costs $20.00. It is time for America to loose the dead weight. Cut the apron strings, and put America back to work.

Though I have to question the number of the already “poor”. I find it difficult to consider someone with cable viewed on a 60″ flat screen in an air conditioned room, using a recently professionally manicured finger, pushing the buttons on the latest iPhone to order the ex-large Domino’s pizza combo to be really poor. The number of the actually poor is quite a different story. There are those who are not able and do need assistance – however until the idea pronounced by Frederick Douglass becomes popular in our societal way of thinking we are doomed – “People might not get all they work for in this world, but they must certainly work for all they get.” or this from Pastor Hagee – “Nothing will work in your life until you do”

Let’s end the “cash for babies program” and take away the cradle to coffin welfare. I see the end of poverty in that sense. One of my biggest concerns in regard to poverty is just how many of the welfare babies born in the last 20 years have been diagnosed with fetal alcohol syndrome or some other such curse. The tax payers need to demand excellence from mothers who have children at someone else’s expense. Yes, poverty must end ASAP.

Why do the congressmen automatically target our service members benefits vice targeting the people that are going out overpopulating the earth with 5 to 10 kids in a family and forcing taxpayers to finance them with schools, schools for the unwed mothers etc THis is a good article from 7 years ago that says a lot about rewarding family sizes.
