‘Cory Bookered’?: Feinstein Backpedals on Comment About White House Role in National Security Leaks

Dianne Feinstein national security leaks

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) on Tuesday backpedaled on remarks about the White House being partly responsible for a recent spate of national security leaks.

Feinstein, head of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said in a statement that she regrets speculating on the White House’s role in leaks related to classified information.

“I was asked whether the White House might be responsible for recent national security leaks,” Feinstein said, according to the Associated Press. “I stated that I did not believe the president leaked classified information. I shouldn‘t have speculated beyond that because the fact of the matter is I don’t know the source of the leaks.”

Speaking at a forum the day before, Feinstein said she “think[s] the White House has to understand that some of this is coming from their ranks,” though said she didn’t believe the leaks came from President Barack Obama.

Her comments were quickly seized on by Obama rival Mitt Romney, who mentioned Feinstein by name in a speech to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and accused the White House of leaking the information to bolster the president’s foreign policy credentials.

“I am disappointed by the statements made by Mr. Romney today regarding a question I was asked yesterday at the World Affairs Council,” Feinstein said. “I’m on record as being disturbed by these leaks, and I regret my remarks are being used to impugn President Obama or his commitment to protecting national security secrets.”

Feinstein added, “I know for a fact the president is extremely troubled by these leaks. His administration has moved aggressively to appoint two independent U.S. attorneys. There is an investigation under way, and it is moving forward quickly.”

Former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu said Tuesday Feinstein got “Cory Bookered” into retracting her remarks, referring to the dust-up after the Newark mayor was forced to backpedal comments calling the Obama campaign‘s attacks on Romney’s Bain record “nauseating.”

“Senator Feinstein said yesterday that it did come out of the White House,” Sununu, a Romney surrogate, said on Fox News’s “Hannity.” “Today, she got Cory Bookered and she walked it back, but the fact is that this president is trying anything to change the subject from his failures as a president.”

Be truthful here. Unless you found something on WND.com I didn’t, what it says is that they have an interview and an affidavit from a seasonal worker that worked as a Hawaii elections clerk (Tim Adams) who states during his brief employment he was told there was no long form and according to him (one person not the state) it was common knowledge that none existed and that neither Queens or Kapiolani hospitals had record of the birth according to his knowledge of what he was told by other elections officials, not directly attributed to anything the hospitals have claimed. I wish this was some real evidence of a proven factual statement by either the State of Hawaii or by Kapiolani Hospital (Queens is no longer claimed to be the birth place by the President), but it isn’t. It is a statement of a person who openly admits he is not a Obama fan, claims he favored Clinton during the 2008 election, and currently states he is more pro-Romney and is not supporting Obama or the Democrats. Read it for yourself. Although it is interesting, it isn‘t strong evidence and it certainly doesn’t present a change in position on the State of Hawaii as your post suggests.

Time for the “Political-speak to English” translation:

Feinstein added, “I know for a fact the president is extremely troubled by these leaks. His administration has moved aggressively to appoint two independent U.S. attorneys. There is an investigation under way, and it is moving forward quickly.”

“I know for a fact the president is extremely troubled by these leaks.”

Translation: He’s troubled for two reasons, 1) they haven’t worked and 2) he got called out for using our national security for his political purposes.

“His administration has moved aggressively to appoint two independent U.S. attorneys. There is an investigation under way, and it is moving forward quickly.”

Translation: He moved “aggressively” to block a REAL investigation, and it’s “moving forward quickly” but not so quickly as to have anything done before the election. After all, just how “independent” are two lawyers in Eric Holder’s Department if Injustice, really?

Remember, FrankenFeinstein’s ONLY qualification for being senator was that she (as a two-bit councilman in San Fran) temporarily took over after the mayor and another councilman were shot and killed back in 1978. It was a pure sympathy vote.

Corrybooker (verb): The act of using threats of force and/or retaliation to encourage someone who has made a valid and truthful statement of fact or opinion to recant said statement, usually in a political context, and always someone of the same political party or persuasion. e.g. When Sen. Feinstein said the White House had been the source of damaging security leaks, she was ‘corrybookered’ by members of her party.

I kinda like this new word.

Comrades all it took was a single conversation with Dear Leader himself to correct her thinking! Isn’t Dear Leader persusaive? Isn’t he the brightest of the bright? I wonder if he held a gun to her head, or just wagged his finger at her so she would fall into line like the good little communist she is!
This really reminds me of the 1930′s with Hitler and Stalin. Amazing!
    Pretty much FDR also!

I want Joe McCarthy resurrected and fully rehabilitated.
I perfectly remember how rabidly was Joe abused, slandered, reviled, vilified, excoriated, slammed by Commies in my former country, the USSR.
Today I still hear the same here, in the USA.
Does it mean that Americans became like Soviet Commies? If “yes,” then this country is done.

If you think that voting is the way we can impose term limits you’re right. That IS a possibility. In my district we voted in Trey Gowdy for the House and Jim Demint in the Senate. I’ve done my part. Now what can I do about Barney Frank (I know he’s finally retiring) and Nancy Pelosi, etc.? What they do as leaders in the Congress affects me in SC but, other than send money to their opponents, there is no way I can help get rid of them. Term limits is the only answer!!

GONZO, You had to pay attention to this woman since she got onto the national screen. That got started during her ten years as mayor of San Francisco. She‘s only been a senator since ’92, but my peer group has referred to her as Dianne Frankenstein since about ‘93-’94. She was all over that Clinton ‘93 tax increase shortly into beginning of his 1st term. I believe that was the very first bill he signed. And, it was back dated to 1 October 1992, the beginning of the fiscal year. Basically, they started collecting taxes for the partial time period of Bush 41′s term of office. Those taxes probably hit every working American, and not just the rich as the Dems so often claim. I was still an Army NCO and had back taxes collected from my next monthly pay period. Not very much, and while I am not complaining that I should not pay my “fair share” (LOL) of taxes. I mention this to illustrate how the end of the Bush Era Tax Cuts will effect practically every working American in this country.
Yeah, Yeah! 0bama claims that he wants those millionaires and billionaires need to pay their fair share, then wants to boost the taxes of those making 200 grand to 250 grand a year. You know, those middle class small business owners! Keep lying to us, you total sack of dung. Many of us do actually have our eyes and ears open.
