Could Penn. Kids Soon be Subjected to PETA Ads in School?

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (The Blaze/AP) — A national animal rights group has offered a cash-strapped school district an undisclosed amount of money if it allows ads in school promoting alternatives to animal dissection.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which has approached dozens of schools across with country with the offer, said it found out about the Kutztown School District’s financial woes over the Internet.

The group recently sent a letter to Superintendent Nicholas Lazo Jr., offering to pay money if the school allows the posting of ads that say, “STOP SCHOOL VIOLENCE. DO YOUR HOMEWORK – CHOOSE NOT TO DISSECT.” Different versions of the ad feature rats, frogs and fetal pigs.

Could Penn. Kids Soon be Subjected to PETA Ads in School?

Lazo told the Reading Eagle newspaper that he is gathering more information on the offer. A message left with the district Friday by The Associated Press was not immediately returned. This week, amid community protests, the school board approved a $28 million budget that calls for the elimination of nearly 13 teaching positions.

PETA spokeswoman Ashley Gonzalez said the group has made similar offers to dozens of schools across the country in the past few years, but none has accepted. Some schools, however, have taken the group up on its offer of free software that allows students to perform digital “dissections,” Gonzalez said.

“We are always on the lookout for schools that can benefit from our support,” she said.

The group has not specified how much money it would provide to a school that allows ads to be posted, but said it would depend partly on how many ads were placed and in how many schools.

“We’d have to sit down with them and work out how much exposure we would get,” Gonzalez said.

PETA already has a site targeting young people called PETA2.com. There, students — and even educators — can learn how to start a “campaign” against dissection:

Don’t even go there! Pretty soon, some genius will conclude that there is no sense in ‘wasting a fetus’, so rather than killing and pickling a frog for the education of our young, they’d be … ! Maybe PETA ought to go dissect itself! Why can’t people decide what is right for them and NOT take the position that they should decide what is right for others in the name of some poor creature! (I just had a bone graft–from a cadaver! Thank you very much! It saved me from an additional surgical procedure! Would PETA prohibit the use of cadaver tissue for such a purpose?)

I can understand the allure of the money… But do we really need to have ads everywhere?

I also seem to remember that dissection was completely optional when I was in high school WAY back in the late 90′s. I had a facinating time with my fetal pig dissection. It had apparently died from a ruptured aortic aneurysm and the blood had pooled in the abdominal cavity.

I still tell the story at Thanksgiving dinner when it’s time to drive off the annoying relatives.

PETA should stay out of our schools. Our children need science instruction because it is an important subject to a well rounded education. These organizations will not stop with their interfering. States need more power when it comed to education. The Federal Government need to be out of our education system. Parents need to step us and stop this kind of interference.

I get it vet school or med school, and I understand true research, but for kids who really won’t appreciate what is going on beyond the yuck, I don’t think so. Virtual dissection is becoming the “in” thing as it should. Peta doesn’t need a foot through the door to having a say in the school.

As a surgeon who has done thousands of dissections, in my opinion, although virtual dissection may be “the in thing”, it bears little resemblance to the real thing. There is only one way to truely appreciate anatomy well and that is through dissection. The virtual dissections, and anatomy books are good adjunctive teaching aids, but you will learn more from dissection, including respect for life and how delicate it can be.

Sounds like a win-win to me

There is not a kid in PA that has not seen some type of roadkill disection.
Cool stuff when it is cold outside. Deer carcass spread out over 200 yards of concrete.
Ya start to get a pretty good idea why kids want to do this in a classroom setting rather than on the street.
Vrrrrrooooooom. Oops there goes another rubber tree plant. Oops there goes another ____________?

If God didn’t want us to eat animals, why did he make them out of MEAT?
      Tasty meat as well.

Real Scenario: 1. Kids are ALREADY ALLOWED, by law, to pass on the dissection.
Just another reason for PETA to get their snooty butts into the news…AGAIN…

True story: I actually once was a member of PETA. Back before I grew a brain.

PETA hates veterinarians. They are afraid someone might grow up to actually know something about animals and be able to refute their idiocy.

I hope Johnny accepts an “f” for not completing his assignment, or is the school district going to have to entertain the menagerie of clown-lawyers who will make a spectacle of this for profit? I smell a civil rights lawsuit from the frogs…. coming soon with these idiotic environmentalists!!!

      @TSUNAMI-22: Save a Frog, dissect a liberal.

      I like that a lot. They should make shirts for kids in the school that say;
Save a Frog, Dissect a PETA Member.

Why does PETA have to make everything less fun? Dissection was my favorite part of biology class and it strengthened my interest in science and medicine. Now I am a veterinarian and I may have chosen a different path if PETA had its way. Also, I have done a virtual dissection, and it is not even close to the real thing.

So, let me get this straight ,LETUSREASON, one has to be (and I quote) a “raging homosexual” before shooting up a town? Am I right? I guess it could be reasonable since you say so. I mean you are the voice of reason, aren’t you?

PETA should realize that it’s this distected frog may have saved a Human (possibly even one of them) life because an appendix was removed before it burst.

I wonder if PETA would support the hanging of similar posters in our friendly neighborhood Planned Parenthood clinics?? With the pictures of little human babies instead of frogs, of course……somehow I think that they would support the rights of dead animals more so than the rights of live babies in their mother’s womb…..Progressives do have their priorities…..

Ehh, nonsense … But I have an idea, take the money, pump it up(let em advertise all they want), use the software(are they gonna Charge them for it?..), then put em in the classroom … the ones that don’t do the work(dissect) get a“0”( maybe 10% for playing with the software).

PETA is ridiculous … we are “hunter/gatherers” I don’t care what you “Metromen/Women” think, if someone wasn’t out here providing you with food you would starve vegan or not, your food does not come from the Grocery store … it arrives there after WE grow it/kill it, process it and then present it to you … If I didn’t control the Deer, groundhogs, rabbits, etc., around me, they would overrun my corn, wheat, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, darn near every thing I grow and sell you!.. Dissecting a Frog is a problem?..

Side note; When I was 10 my father and Grandfather taught me how to fish, and jig frogs both had to be “gutted” when caught … when School brought it up, it was just examining what we had been throwing out for years … What is Wrong with these people?.. someone had to do a whole lot of dissecting to come up with this software but … We don’t need to know how things function first hand, Trust the software “We already know” you don’t have to … EWwww … ?..

1 And the LORD spoke to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
2 But if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all your territory with frogs.
3 So the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into your house, into your bedroom, on your bed, into the houses of your servants, on your people, into your ovens, and into your kneading bowls.
4 And the frogs shall come up on you, on your people, and on all your servants.” ’ ”
5 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.’ ”
6 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.
7 And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs on the land of Egypt.
      [Exodus 8:1-7]

What will PETA do then? :D
