Could the U.S. Help Foot the Bill for ‘Democratic’ Arab Spring?Democracy, it seems, has a price tag. And now the countries that have been the focus of the “Arab Spring” are asking leaders of the free world to foot the bill.

Officials say that rich countries and international lenders are aiming to provide $40 billion in funding for Arab countries trying to establish free democracies. Tunisia’s finance minister said leaders of the Group of Eight industrialized nations floated the figure at a summit in this French resort Friday.

A French official says $40 billion is the overall goal, but that breakdowns by country and timetables are still under discussion. The official was not authorized to be publicly named according to his office policy.

The prime ministers of Tunisia and Egypt met Friday with President Barack Obama and other G-8 leaders and appealed for help after uprisings earlier this year that overthrew longtime autocrats but also scared away tourists and investors.

The uprisings have largely been touted as “democratic” revolutions. But as some have pointed out — mainly Glenn Beck — the revolutions have been rife with controversy. In Egypt, for example, the Muslim Brotherhood has been intimately connected to the revolts and some Muslims have admitted wanting to hijack the movement to establish Shariah Law and a Muslim caliphate.

Additionally, just days after the successful ousting of Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak, a mob surrounded CBS reporter Lara Logan and raped her while chanting “Jew!”

Even Osama bin Laden, in his last taped message before his death, praised the benefits of the Arab Spring to the Muslim world.

We are giving money we don’t have, to countries we don’t know that will not Kill us and Israel (good possiblitly they will, or try to kill us).     This is a stupid question. Of course we are going to foot a part of the bill. Probably the lion’s share of it although they may try to hide it by having the IMF give it to them, but make no mistake, money will be coming out of our pockets. Naturally we want to give money to these people who want to kill us. Otherwise things may not go well there so they may want to kill us. Wait a minute. Either way they will want to kill us. Oh well, if we didn’t spend it on them then we would probably just waste it. Wait a minute. Giving it to them will waste it….. By the way, with all of the complaints about giving foreign aid to Israel lately, 80% of the foreign aid that the United States gives out every year goes to Muslims countries and see how much they love us.

    Who funded America’s bid for democracy? It seems to me that if the Arab spring was truly a homegrown movement they wouldn’t be asking for funding. They have enough resources in their own countries, oil, to fund the entire world’s democracy. In addition, I don’t think the US should be too closely involved in this movement- no good deed goes unpunished.

Franklin was in Paris, as well, but he was there for the women. Well, one woman, anyway (that didn’t work out so he came back to Philly — sort of traded filly for Philly).

      I’m not making a case for giving Arab nations one stinking cent. I just want you to choose your arguments carefully.

      I think this administration will end up looking foolish over this whole fantasy of an Arab Spring. I believe that future historians will be quite rough on President Obama and his naivete’ on these events. I’m not talking about the marxist propogandists who pose as historians today.

      I’m not trying to be priggish, RN. I’m sure that your views and my views are mostly the same.

      There’s plenty of sources on the subject, and it‘s not any dark or hidden part of this great nation’s history. We needed ample resources to take on the superpower of the day, and France was willing to help. Amsterdam wanted our commerce if we won the war. The various currencies in the young nation were practically worthless. Well, it’s too much to tackle in 1500 characters.

    I think we should be able to select WHERE our tax dollars go… like road repair or SANE schools, etc., not just dump our money into the till and “trust” the “big boys and girls” to spend it wisely.

    Wouldn’t that be cool, if we could send our taxes where we wanted them to go?

    Mine would NOT go to this “arab spring” s**** (stuff). The more I think about it, I think “spring” means the metal coil, not the season of the year.

      I want my tax dollars refunded for the past two years. I will be asking my accountant to file for that. I suggest each and everyone of us do the same. Wouldn’t that be a hoot?

      It’s appalling. But what choice do we have? Hilary and Obama were fans of Saul Alinsky who wrote rules for radicals. It was dedicated to Satan, for one who dared to go aganinst God gained his own kingdom. We can’t vote them out because of their illegal means of voting using acorn subsidiaries, which did monstrosities of illegal voting and were only fined $5000. Pretty cheap for the government they want. Also car trunks full of votes, and then Al Franken running off to the Arab countries telling them we had government jobs for them. Sadly we are infiltrated by them via college professors,and various muslim organizations even doing programming for school children. They have a plan..apparently better than ours.
