Olympic marathoner Ryan Hall has a 6 foot 10 inch stride length and 4:46 mile pace, which he sustains for all 26.2 miles of a marathon. Could you keep up with that for even 60 feet?
An ASICS’ ad for the New York City Marathon — ASICS Run With Ryan Hall — let people try. This 60 foot stretch of wall with footage of Hall running, lets passerbys test their skills alongside him. No one who ran against the wall beat Hall — not those who took a second head start and not even Hall himself who showed up to take on “virtual Ryan”.
Check it out:
If you‘ve ever wondered what it might be like to run a marathon but don’t have the endurance – or desire to run for hours on end — here’s a time-lapsed version of the 2011 New York City Marathon as viewed from a runner’s headcam. It is probably one of the fastest versions of a marathon you’ll ever see at 5:49:
To create this video, Gwen Schroeder’scamera took a photo every second, which she then edited with Quicktime 7 and Final Cut Pro.

Posted on November 15, 2011 at 11:32amI used to run for fun and relaxation every day. I was awaiting orders on Treasure Island in 1977 when I got a room mate named Andy Gonzales. He was local Cali guy from Squaw Valley. He held the world record, at the time, for 100 miles in less than 24 hours (I think it was about 20 or so) through steeplechase cross country terrain in the Squaw Valley area.
Man that guy could run. The Navy recruited him to run the mile in the olympics. He never qualified. But, he did have an obligation to the Navy after that for 3 more years.
Sucker!

Posted on November 15, 2011 at 7:32amI ran track, I could probably beat him in the sprint, but a 26.2 mile marathon…definitely not.
Not a marathon runner. I’m a sprinter. And I smoke too much weed.

Posted on November 15, 2011 at 7:42amYeah… I can keep up the 4:46 pace for about 1/10th of a mile and I’ve been running for years. 7:30 is my normal pace for the first mile, then each additional mile dips little by little to my distance pace of 9:30 (more of a jog, really).
