Couple High on Bath Salts Reportedly Opens Fire After Calling 911 — and a Pastor Steps in to Save the Day

Chaos ensued after Donna, 49, and Phillip Walls, 50, a Gaston County North Carolina couple, found themselves high on bath salts, a synthetic drug that has been making headlines over the past few months. Yesterday, the two called the police, telling 911 operators that gang members were after them, then they allegedly proceeded to bring weapons outdoors and forced their way into a nearby pastor’s home.
“There are people under our house,” Donna told the 911 operator. “They were there yesterday and last night.”

According to neighbors, after making the call, the two proceeded to go outside with a military bag filled with weapons. With children purportedly roaming about, Donna allegedly fired seven gunshots into the air. One neighbor claims that the two were very clearly convinced that people were, indeed, after them.
You can listen to part of the 911 call below:
After firing the shots, Donna and Phillip allegedly ran across the street and forced their way into Richard Robinson’s home. Robinson, a pastor, said he knew the couple needed help when he saw them, so he proceeded — despite admitting having some fear — to disarm them.
“I was little afraid, don’t get me wrong, but even in that state of mind, [Phillip] had enough presence to ask me to pray for him,” Richard told WSOC-TV.
“You are in my house. You know you are safe. Ain’t nobody gonna hurt you. Just give me the guns,” the pastor told the couple.
As it turns out, the couple were former members at Robinson’s church. The Gaston Gazette has more about how the incident unfolded:
The Robinsons are pastors at In Time Revival Worship Center in Bessemer City, and Richard Robinson said he talked the Walls into surrendering their weapons after his wife fled their home in fear.
Donna Jean Walls ultimately laid a handgun she was brandishing on the Robinson’s kitchen table, Richard Robinson said. A portrait of Jesus at the Last Supper hangs above.
Phillip Walls, dressed in camouflage, also surrendered his weapons. The pastor said he confiscated the weapons until police arrived.
The two were, of course, arrested and spent a night in the hospital before heading to jail. This wasn’t their first encounter with the police and officers were apparently aware of their purported history of abusing bath salts.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 4:06pmThe “bath salts” are just the overall label for synthetic drugs sold as “not for consumption, wink wink” legal alternatives. In the town in which I live, they are marketed as “herbal potpourri.” Get it? POTpourri? So creative… None of them are illegal, but none of them are tested or “safe” either. We have no idea what’s it them, what the long-term effects are, or what the short-term effects might be.
Ironically, the first really viral news story was the “face-eating naked man one”… and it turns out that guy wasn’t on bath salts! People have been using synthetics for years; it just seems like they’re getting stronger, or stories of people acting out while on them are becoming more viral. It’s nothing new… it‘s like this generation’s version of sniffing glue.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 4:59pmso I have a ?, according to your posted article, you/they can‘t ’test’ for bath salts, so HOW did FL come out and say that the guy who ate the face off the homeless man was NOT on bath salts only pot??? So what I’m getting, is the face eating guy is dead, they can’t ask him if he was using, even though his ‘behavior’ says “bath salts”, they just can say, it‘s ’Pot’ not bath salts???? None of the articles I saw on it specifically said you can’t test for B.s., they just said ‘he only tested positive for pot’ ….???? ugh. misinformation overload.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 3:36pmI think his point is that what we deem legal and illegal is arbitrary and not well thought out.
Furthermore, I think he’s trying to say how silly it is that potheads are sitting in jail on the public dime while bankers and the fed have stolen trillions from society over the years (bailouts, sweetheart deals with politicians, Libor-gate, Freddie, Fannie, etc) and not only are they not in jail….they are paid off with our children’s money.
We as a society aren’t clear thinkers about what it means to be free and what it means to be a criminal. We punish people who harm themselves but reward people who steal from us and our posterity.
Maybe he isn’t saying that at all….who knows.

Incarceration with forced labor and the death penalty make good deterrents to those not dead set on a life of violence. With proper jurisprudence and legal counsel, due process of the statutes of the country works.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 1:56pmBath Salts are any substance that the government hasn’t declared illegal. Pot is illegal. The main chemical compound is THC. (−)-(6aR,10aR)-6,6,9-trimethyl-3-pentyl-6a,7,8,10a-tetrahydro-6H-benzo[c]chromen-1-ol. SO to make this LEGAL. Change one of the chemical propertiecs of THC and bam its legal!!! and called a Bath Salt. These “Breaking Bad” type Chemists are working around the legal system. This is happening with Cocaine, Heroine, and all the others…Bath Salts is not a Drug. Is a Classification of many drugs that dont officially have names.
Goodle Crocodile Drug, its a derivative of morphine, where the 6-hydroxyl group has been removed and the 7,8 double bond has been reduced.[1] It has sedative and analgesic effects, and is around 8-10 times more potent than morphine. Or simply a Bath Salt if it didnt have such a crazy effect on peoples skin.

I agree with “girlnurse.” people are going to find a way to ease the pain and if we keep illegalizing everything then they will just find anything else to try to get pain releif. legalize it, regulate it and take the criminality our of it. we need more personal responsibilitys not more laws to take personal responsibility away from the people. It’s funny how people on both sides tout freedom but then try to regulate everything they dont like about that freedom. if someone is going to do somthing stupid they are going to do it reguardless. I lived in that world and I know, most people just use drugs as an excuse to try to get out of the trouble they got in due to miss judgement and irresponsibility.
People can’t control what other people do, period. if someone wants to be irresponsible, they will do it reguardless if drugs are involved. Drugs dont have the effect that the media whants you do believe.

If by making no point at all you win…then congrats. The argument has never been about banning cars. It’s about liberty and freedom and how moronic it is to be partially free. How stupid it is to ban things in the interest of protecting people and keeping things legal that are rights.
Either you are free or you are not. If you are going to make the case about taking away freedom (snorting bath salts) under the guise of factual information then you can’t do it and still talk about the right to own guns or drive cars. Data shows that they kill 1000X more than bath salt zombies.
