Cow Escapes Slaughter House, Runs Loose in Queens!

Cow Escape Slaughterhouse Queens New York Video

Here‘s a scene you don’t see every day. A “mad” cow escaped from a local slaughterhouse led butchers and one Halal food cart worker in hot pursuit of the bovine beast through the busy streets of Queens, New York, before it was ultimately captured on the campus of York college in Jamaica.

The video features the cow galloping past cars and pedestrians down the bustling Liberty Avenue in Jamaica. Apparently a tow truck driver captured the scene on his smart phone.

NBC New York brings us the hilarious tale:

The driver with Vice Towing was standing on the flat of his truck when he saw the animal run towards him. He got back in the truck, where he took video on his cell phone.

“We were all screaming,” said the driver, who identified himself as Moe. Animals sometimes escape from a nearby slaughterhouse, he said, but none as big as this.

“We’ve seen a few chickens roaming around, but no cow.”

John Cohen, who was also in the truck, said butchers and the man working behind a nearby Halal cart tried in vain to capture it.

“This thing was charging, spit flying out of its mouth,” he said. “It was crazy.”

Video showed the animal later appeared on the campus of York College in Jamaica, where it was finally caught.

They are killed painlessly in American slaughter houses by shooting them in the head with a bolt.
The kosher slaughter houses are different and they suffer terribly before they die.

I was rooting for the Cow to escape and find a nice owner who wouldn’t use it for Hamburgers. I guess if I knew how these animals were killed I would give up meat…I’m just an animal lover!

Run Elsie Run. For those who don‘t know Elsie was the Bordon Glue’s mascot “Elmer”, Female Cow Wife.
Elsie was created in the 1930s to symbolize the “Perfect Dairy Product,” and made an appearance at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. She also starred in a movie, RKO’s Little Men, in 1940. For a time in the mid-1940s when she was voiced by Hope Emerson, she was better known than some human celebrities, and Elsie the Cow remains among the most recognizable product logos in the United States and Canada[1].
Elsie’s husband, Elmer the Bull, was later lent to Borden‘s chemical division as the mascot for Elmer’s Glue. Their offspring included Beulah, Beauregard (born 1948), and twins Larabee and Lobelia (born 1957). Elsie has earned such honorary degrees from Universities as Doctor of Bovinity[4], Doctor of Human Kindness and Doctor of Ecownomics. In Wisconsin, which had its reigning Dairy Princesses, Elsie was named Queen of Dairyland. The Seneca Indian Tribe named her an honorary chief, and the City of Bridgeport, Connecticut, presented her with their P.T. Barnum Award of Showmanship. And in 2000, Elsie was named one of the top 10 advertising icons of the century by Ad Age.

I’m sorry, but that was a steer. The person reporting this as a cow, must have been related to the congressman, who, during world war II was taking a tour of the Chicago stock yards, saw the thousands of steers, and wondered why they weren’t being used for breeding stock.
For those of you city folk who have no idea about such things, steers are bulls that have been neutered so their physiology will focus on developing the ideal fat/meat ratio for the slauter house.

I am a butcher. I can tell you that there is no way that I would just let this one go and say “oh well, he deserves to be free” When you work with these animals every day and deal with how stupid they are, there is no sadness in shooting them.
