CPAC Gets Sneak Peek of New ‘Atlas Shrugged’ Film

Conservative activists poured into a standing-room-only hotel conference room Friday afternoon for a brief glimpse of the long-awaited movie adaptation of “Atlas Shrugged,” Ayn Rand‘s 1957 philosophical novel about how government intervention and collectivism wipe out society’s creativity, innovation and industry.
The Washington Post quite rightly compared the scene to a screening of Harry Potter at Comic-Con.
Appropriately enough, the film is set to debut April 15 and filmmakers were on scene to promote it to some of the country’s most die-hard Rand supporters. “Hollywood does not think enough people” are interested in the message of “Atlas Shrugged,” executive producer Harmon Kaslow announced to the room. But with support of CPAC-goers, growing demand for the film could prove them wrong.
Like the book, the film is set in the not-too-distant future. American Spectator’s Philip Klein was privileged to preview a few choice scenes on Thursday night and says filmmakers went for a “ripped from the headlines” feel, with “images of the economy tanking, the country’s infrastructure collapsing, protests raging in the streets, Congress passing statist legislation, and a TV news anchor leading a panel discussion between some of the book’s characters.”
“It is a movie that freedom fighters have been waiting decades for,” said Max Pappas, the vice president of public policy for FreedomWorks, which co-sponsored the CPAC screening. “I‘m pretty sure that it’s the best-selling book of the 20th century that has not yet been made into a movie.”
With sufficient support and financial backing, the filmmakers hope “Atlas Shrugged: Part I” will be followed by two sequels.

What do you think? Will Rand’s orginal message ultimately translate onto the big screen?

Posted on February 11, 2011 at 11:48pmThis could be a great film if the owner of the film rights were a conservitive. Last year I heard that Angelina Jole bought the firm right to this book. Although Angelina‘s father is a undercover conservitive what are her political leaning’s? HAAAAHAAA. Is this why Jenifer Anderson and Brad Pitt broke up he was looking for a centerist libertarian mate? I only hope that this film would be directed by someone that takes the true message of liberty and freedom to the people and expose the marxist threat to the world. Have you seen the middle east lately? Marxisim has been exposed to the middle east with a little help from America communist. Can we counter the marxist proganda with the true message of freedom and libery as we did in the founding of the USA? G_D HELP US ALL!!! Pray for the USA & Isreal!!!

Posted on February 11, 2011 at 11:42pmI cannot wait to see this film. This book should be mandatory reading in public schools. It explains in detail how government looters can interfere into business and collusion with favored business cronies can bring down a mighty economy. Even though it was written 50 years ago, it rings true today. Ayn Rand was way ahead of her time.

Posted on February 12, 2011 at 7:36amHeck, lets hope the Left gets up to it‘s usual dirty tricks and tries to block it’s showing in movie theaters! That could create even more buzz if it’s handled right. You know the Left will be sorely tempted to do *something* to somehow block or limit its’ distribution.
Can you imagine what political & ideological conversations with friends & acquaintances, co-workers, family and more would be like if many, if not most, people were familiar with the ideas put forth in “Atlas Shrugged”?
Yeah, the Left will be VERY tempted to try and quash distribution/showing of this film! Be alert, and turn any attempt to block this film into an example of how the “Streisand Effect” operates. They may try blocking at the local small-theater level, so watch for any pressure on local theaters, their owners, and advertisers.

Posted on February 12, 2011 at 12:06amCasting unknowns could be a great advantage. Look at what happened with “The Lord of the Rings” – with the exception of a couple of actors, none of them were really well-known as leading actors. This allowed the movies to be carried by the ensemble rather than one or two characters/actors. It‘s interesting how that’s how the story played out too – everyone had a part to play. Thankfully, the result was phenomenal!
Let’s see what happens. I hope you’re right in predicting success.

I’m definitely with you on this one Dash. With the “B” actors, we have the advantage of NOT knowing them. They haven’t yet gotten successful enough to go out onto the red-carpet spewing hateful political crap, and losing half of their fan-base doing it.

I hope they can capture the soul of this story. My other concern is that since this is part one, unless all other parts were filmed together, as was done for Lord of the Rings, seeing the rest of this will depend on box office success. If it fails financially, even if it’s a great film, the rest will not be made.

Only those who detest the idea of stealing someone’s money are morally deserving of your so-called “welfare benefits”.
It was her money when she earned it, it was her money when your “heroes” stole it, and it was hers to take back from said thieves in whatever form they were “kind” enough to offer it.

“It is obvious, in such cases, that a man receives his own money which was taken from him by force, directly and specifically, without his consent, against his own choice. Those who advocated such laws are morally guilty, since they assumed the “right” to force employers and unwilling co-workers. But the victims, who opposed such laws, have a clear right to any refund of their own money—and they would not advance the cause of freedom if they left their money, unclaimed, for the benefit of the welfare-state administration.”
Further:
Federal records obtained through a Freedom of Information act request confirm the Social Security benefits. A similar FOI request was unable to either prove or disprove the Medicare claim.

Posted on February 13, 2011 at 11:55pmIf that’s the case, I’m in the same boat as Ms. Rand when she started writing her books. Unfortunately, I have to say that I’m on these government benefits (Food Stamps, Social Security for Aspergers Syndrome, the Occasional Food Bank) and so on. And I’m basically stuck on them partly because of the mentioned flavor of Autism, but mostly because there are no jobs that are above the Mc- variety that people would want to let me try out, much less try out with a paycheck. Troll Sites like Something Awful and Encyclopedia Dramatica has pages on me? Would you want to hire someone who’s a favorite lulcow for those @$$holes?
However, I have just released a second volumne to my Blood and Metal series, which not only has a variation of Glenn Beck’s 9 Principles, but also has references of an Ann Raynd-style Shrug in the world in the story. (Blood and Metal takes place in a world not too different from the late Brian Jacques’ works. The main character is an American young man who shares America’s values with this world.) My web page is http://foxfirestudios.net for those who want to know more about my books and especially to buy a copy.
And I stress “To Buy a Copy.“ If you have that ”Get a job, you fsking worthless parasite!” on your keyboard, I strongly advise you to delete that term from your comment, go to my site, and buy a copy of my books. It’ll be a lot more productive than being dressed down in a public web site, and my respect for you as a person–and as an objectivist–if you do so. I’m sure that Ms. Rand would think the same way.
Besides, If I want to be denegrated as a worthless parasite, I’d go to those aforementioned troll sites. I’d get more of that than I can possibly stand.

Report Post »peezee
Posted on February 12, 2011 at 6:52amThis explains the motivations of hate filled fools like Stupid Windmill quite well:
“Today, we live in the Age of Envy.
“Envy” is not the emotion I have in mind, but it is the clearest manifestation of an emotion that has remained nameless; it is the only element of a complex emotional sum that men have permitted themselves to identify.
Envy is regarded by most people as a petty, superficial emotion and, therefore, it serves as a semihuman cover for so inhuman an emotion that those who feel it seldom dare admit it even to themselves . . . . That emotion is: hatred of the good for being the good.
This hatred is not resentment against some prescribed view of the good with which one does not agree . . . . Hatred of the good for being the good means hatred of that which one regards as good by one’s own (conscious or subconscious) judgment. It means hatred of a person for possessing a value or virtue one regards as desirable.
If a child wants to get good grades in school, but is unable or unwilling to achieve them and begins to hate the children who do, that is hatred of the good. If a man regards intelligence as a value, but is troubled by self-doubt and begins to hate the men he judges to be intelligent, that is hatred of the good.
The nature of the particular values a man chooses to hold is not the primary factor in this issue (although irrational values may contribute a great deal to the formation of that emotion). The primary factor and distinguishing characteristic is an emotional mechanism set in reverse: a response of hatred, not toward human vices, but toward human virtues.
To be exact, the emotional mechanism is not set in reverse, but is set one way: its exponents do not experience love for evil men; their emotional range is limited to hatred or indifference. It is impossible to experience love, which is a response to values, when one’s automatized response to values is hatred.”

Posted on February 12, 2011 at 10:43amVery arrogant and fallacious reasoning. First, to be correct, you would need to know the heart of the subject you are analyzing – which you can’t. Second, “Good” is subjective to perspective. In fact, “good” is as irrelevant a word as is “nice”. It has little tangible meaning except to the user.
For example, regardless of your intentions, liberal emotive, irrational thinking is a pathogenic cancer which bleeds its host and prevents it from achieving self-actualization. I don’t find that “good”.

Posted on February 12, 2011 at 2:47amAyn Rand foresaw the future, a future where regulations, departments, and beuraocrats took over America, where the Peoples States replaced all Governments and the intellect and ambition of man was crushed, replaced by the “Social Justice” and govt. oversight that would replace the harsh competition of man. As that future took hold a young man named John Galt stood against the machinery of Socialism and said, “No More, I shall yield not and will bind the wheels of the Peoples Republic.“ He ground the ”Progress” to a halt and thus reset the path of the People’s Republic of the United States.
That is “What happen’s if Atlas Shrugged”

Report Post »When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion – when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing – when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors – when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you – when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice – you may know that your society is doomed.

I’m so accustomed to Hollywood ambushing audiences with their Progressive dogma, that it is difficult for me to imagine this film can be made in Hollywood without ruining it. The book is my all-time favorite, so I’ll definitely go see the movie, but I‘ll be really pissed if it doesn’t stay true to Ayn Rand’s message of self-reliance.
The WSJ or Harvard Business Review (or someone like that) once asked a bunch of CEO’s to name their top-ten all-time most-influential/favorite books, and Atlas Shrugged was the only book that consistently appeared on every list. (Don’t hold me to the exact details on this… but I’m in the ballpark… the point being that the smartest people were in agreement that this book was influential to them.)

Posted on February 12, 2011 at 8:48am“ATLAS SHRUGGED” – WORTH READING AGAIN!
“ATLAS SHRUGGED” by Ayn Rand was published in 1957 and I read it shortly after it was published. Over the years I read it several more times, the last time in early 2000. Recently, I bought a copy for my Kindle and started reading it again. A 50+ year love affair with a book? Today, I am enjoying “ATLAS SHRUGGED” even more than the first time I read it. It is almost like reading today’s headlines as it relates laws being passed to inhibit the production of wealth and reward political cronies. Two years of the Obama administration has both proven the validity and strengthened Ayn Rand’s message. Even though it was written 50+ years ago, “ATLAS SHRUGGED” exposes the fallacies of the Obama initiatives and predicts the resulting disasters.
Give yourself a treat. Read “ATLAS SHRUGGED” again, slowly this time and ponder the message. If you haven’t read it, I envy you, a joyous experience awaits you.
Ayn Rand was a brilliant woman. Her works deserve your continued study; they will enhance your life. http://commonsense21c.com/

Obama comes out telling us about our “Sputnik moment” and how he is going to build high-speed rail road lines!
Atlas Shrugged and Obama’s Sputnik moment about railroads make this a must see movie, that might just save the USA!

Posted on February 13, 2011 at 12:06amI really hope this is going to be a good movie. The trailer could have been cut a lot better, there is such an awkward feeling at the beginning where Midas says to we know who, “Who are you?” in such a mono-tone voice which in reality is reality but in the movie world viewers expect more and more emotion to be expressed. To me, it made the beginning feel to “fake”compared to other films. I hope they produce a better marketing trailer than that before they release the film. Pray this comes to be an excellent movie, if not, I would not mind to produce my own Atlas Shrugged in say, 30 years.
