Crazy Video: Heat Wave Buckles Wis. Highway, Launches Car Into The Air

“Smokey And The Bandit.“ ”The Dukes of Hazard.“ ”Fast & Furious 2.” Everyone has a favorite movie that shows a car (or two) being tossed into the air during a chase scene. One of my personal favorites is the car jump seen in the Bond film, ”The Man With The Golden Gun.” This short clip shows a full 360 rotation of the car as it jumped a river. Of course, 007 was at the wheel:
That scene, like most movie stunts, required an army of professionals to build, test, and execute it.
Highway 29 near Eau Claire, Wisconsin only needed the recent heatwave to create a car-launching ramp.
An amateur videographer was just trying to record the heat-triggered ramp created in the road. He happened to be in the right place at the right time. Most of the cars that approached the buckled section of the road were able to slow down and get past the rank. This car apparently missed the warning signs:
CNN reports that the people in the car were not injured… just embarrassed.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 1:56pmAMATEUR is right. Why can’t anybody taking video hold the camera still and on target? I can understand it if someone is getting shot at but it looks like this person was on an overpass.

Posted on July 4, 2012 at 8:30amIt looks to be a failed leftist attempt to say that the road buckeled under the extreme heat so suddenly that the driver was caught unaware. Then it can be interpreted by CNN as more evidence of global warming. This was staged as is most so called “news” today.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 12:22pmFire the cameraman. He holds steady as the car comes onto the scene, but as the car twists over the hump, it’s the photographer who tilts. The car’s dash cam would have provided better footage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 11:17amWhat‘s funnier is how the Enviroids always belittle anyone who doesn’t buy their bag of crap about MMGW when it snows during their conferences, saying “that’s WEATHER stupid, not CLIMATE,” but trumpet the EXACT opposite when there are warm days – then I get to deflate their balloons by pointing out to them that the current temperatures aren’t even records.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 12:50pmThat’s just so false. Before George Bush, summers were never hotter than 80º, hurricanes didn’t exist, tornadoes were nothing more than a light kiss on the cheek.Natural disasters only occured when God was really mad. Otherwise, earth was a tranquil paradise.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 10:01amUh huh. I say the person on the overpass who just ‘happens’ to accidentally have his phone in video mode was a co conspirator and freaked when the car careened over into on coming traffic. It was a stupid stunt, set up for youtube.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 11:01amagreed, notice the cars parked down the street from the “ramp”? What kind of car is that? a mid 80s dodge van? So the camera man just happens to be there at the moment a car (that just happens to be a junker that no one would care about) gets airborne, and there are more cars parked down the street on this stretch of highway with nothing for miles to be parked for…..How much do you want to bet that more angles of this “accident” will surface shortly on utube?
Report Post »ozchambers
Posted on July 3, 2012 at 12:07pmyeah, you’re probably right. Why the lack of sound? Cuz we might here teenagers giggling and whooping as the car launches? That being said……..it’s still funny after realizing no one is hurt, but I would never condone such idiocy.
Report Post »pudssweetie
Posted on July 3, 2012 at 4:19pmHmmm did you ever stop to think that other cars that are parked on the side of the road are there because they too hit the buckled pavement and might have blown out a tire or did some other damage to their car? I live in WI and see this all the time, pavement buckles but people are in such a hurry they don’t slow down until it is too late. See this every Friday night on I90/39 when it’s bumper to bumper Illinois people heading to their WI cabins, camping or second homes. They drive way above and beyond the speed limit weaving in and out of traffic and are the cause of many Friday night car crashes.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 10:53amI believe it is things like the Volt that causes the road to buckle. It does not weigh very much and is causing the roads to wear wrong and buckle.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 9:17amIt would have been helpful if the jerkball who was recording this with his phone would have actually POINTED IT AT THE ACTION. The car jumped, it looked cool, then this clown decides that we’d rather see concrete. The rest of the action is left to the imagination because, inexplicably, the mental midget with the phone was incapable of filming it. How disappointing because it could have been one of the coolest YouTube videos of the year…..
Oh, and here‘s a tip if you’re going to shoot video from a phone: turn it sideways! Otherwise, it’s in the upright and makes for a lousy video.

BTW, big ORANGE signs on both sides of the road should be a huge hint to slow down. Even if you can’t read.
