Crowd Gathers at White House to Cheer News of bin Laden’s Death — Sings ‘God Bless America’

It’s a little hard to hear but in the second half of the CNN clip you can hear the crowd singing “God Bless America.” A number of sites are saying that the crowd is singing the National Anthem, but to me it sounds more like “God Bless America,” with the distinctive refrain heard around the :50 mark as the flag waves:

If anything, that tragedy was one of the defining moments of my youth. Please don’t discount those of us who came of age under the shadow of 9-11. That’s why it took so long to find him and then set up a successful operation to take him out. Most Pakistanis favor the Taliban and have become increasingly radicalized, especially since Obama took office, threatened to invade them and has incessantly launched drone attacks in Northern Pakistan.
NO SPIN: This victory is extremely important, because it brings to the forefront the future of Pakistan and our involvement in the region. In other words, this operation was NOT carried out in cooperation with the Pakistani govt.

Between the 2 of us, we speak English, Spanish, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Sindhi and a little bit of Pushto.
Thats why we can hang at good kabab places, to meet people who are actually in the know .

They were probably at the bar saw the news realized the white house was a few blocks away and bam, hence they walk to the white house to cheer. You can‘t say if you weren’t a young college student you would not do the same. I do agree with seeing the signs but after a hour and a half the signs haven’t appeared they probably got lazy.

As for the singing of the National Anthem, it surprises me that these kids even know the song. They sure didn’t spend a lot of time singing it in the classrooms of their progressive teachers. Maybe if we look closely, we can see cheat-sheets with the Anthem printed on it for them to use. The WH had a week to orchestrate this little show.

I suspect the show is more than puppet, but your skepticism has many roots and therefore is very reasonable. DC is surrounded and inundated by many of our finest and best… in much need of letting off a lot of pent up frustrations. They deserve a chance to celebrate American Exceptionalism, regardless of political leanings. The WH is simply the logical place to make the show, in spite of the residence, or to throw the residence a bone, to give a little pat on the head, well done.
I found the announcement to be far more worthy of skepticism. I think it is the only Presidential speech I have listened to in its entirety, in the last 2 years. Surprise, surprise, it sounded, dare I say it, Presidential. I’d also say it sounded kissy, kissy, Bushy, Bushy. With poll numbers reaching new lows, 2 years on the job, its about time this guy sounds Presidential… harking back to Bush like style, or even Clinton. It is a neat trick that will ease the downward turn for a few days. Too bad he had to play the hand now, on the backs of our great Seals, and he could not wait until Oct of 2012.
They say the body is in our hands. Is not burial required within 24 hours, according to that faith? What will happen? What will happen? He has already ticked off the Pakistanis for going in over their heads in speedy fashion… will he tick off the religion for not finishing the job under foot, in timely fashion? Will the grave be unmarked and undisclosed? Why not make the burial plot in Arlington so we can take pictures of all the mourners? How far in the eyes of the World will this winner of Peace go, to win back America? My guess is, short of resignation, he is a looser.

I am a vet, I nearly rejoined after 911, and while I am glad they got him, I had realized long ago, this is far bigger than just one man. Besides, lost his significance a long time ago. Regardless, he deserved to die, but this is very weird how this all went down. Like others, something is just not right. Even those who were interviewed and lost loved ones weren’t like these college kids. I am 36 but in college, so I know how these kids think, this doesn’t feel right at all.
This isn‘t like when we defeated the Nazi’s in WWII. I can’t put my finger on it, but these kids were only 8 years old when we were attached, I just can’t figure out how this is so meaningful to them. Not taking away from the significance of it all. I am surprised they haven’t released any pictures or proof this was Bin Laden. Yet, they already threw the body in the sea and the compound is being burned to the ground. I don’t know, maybe I just don’t trust this guy in any way and am feeling biased. Even my Mom, who is a Democrat, seemed to care less, aside from a Wow. I think just because she felt she had.

I am a Marine, and as I was joining in with some fellow Marines in the singing of the Marine’s Hymn, there was a crowd of your so-called “UnAmerican” college age kids chanting “Support Our Troops… Support Our Troops.“ There was a couple that had a sign that said ”Bring The Troops Home.” Myself and some of my fellow servicemembers took pictures holding our flag under the sign because they weren’t against us, they were against the war. It doesn’t matter how old someone was when the towers were hit, I was in 8th grade and I remember it clear as day. The ages and political ideals were cast aside for one amazing night, and for you to sit at your computers saying that these people were paid or ordered or coerced to be there is preposterous. They were coerced though, by the patriotism they may not wear on their sleeve, but they feel inside. I hope you who doubt their goodness are happy with yourselves, because last night, I witnessed the real America.

Report Post »CONVERSATIONCANWORK Thank you for your feedback!! I live in a college town and read the next day that there were hundreds (at least) of people of all ages cheering around campus! Who was not cheering? Al Quaeda and several of the blazers.
