    Never saw political drivel on any job description I have ever seen for Sheriff. Hey whiteaparty? Bet you be pissed if your Sheriff came in your house uninvited, without a search warrant and confiscated your stash. Or how about him moonlighting as a collector and him digging up info on you from his police computer! All done while carrying his badge. He has a right to express a political opinion- just not under the authority of his office. He is a paid by all of the people to do his job, not give political commentary.

    This sheriff is way off base. The sheriff is building a defense for the killer. That is not the job or position of this law enforcement officer. I feel the sheriff is a media w h o r e. He was chastized by the FOX host for his vocal personal opinon position as to the killers motive. He will be on CNN News later.

    Job Tasks for: “Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff”
    Place people in protective custody.

    Transport or escort prisoners and defendants en route to courtrooms, prisons or jails, attorneys’ offices, or medical facilities.

    Drive vehicles or patrol specific areas to detect law violators, issue citations, and make arrests.

    Execute arrest warrants, locating and taking persons into custody.

    Investigate illegal or suspicious activities.

    Notify patrol units to take violators into custody or to provide needed assistance or medical aid.

    Question individuals entering secured areas to determine their business, directing and rerouting individuals as necessary.

    Record daily activities, and submit logs and other related reports and paperwork to appropriate authorities.

    Serve statements of claims, subpoenas, summonses, jury summonses, orders to pay alimony, and other court orders.

    Take control of accident scenes to maintain traffic flow, to assist accident victims, and to investigate causes.

    Verify that the proper legal charges have been made against law offenders.

    Patrol and guard courthouses, grand jury rooms, or assigned areas, in order to provide security, enforce laws, maintain order, and arrest violators.

    Locate and confiscate real or personal property, as directed by court order.

    Manage jail operations, and tend to jail inmates.

    I wonder if the sheriff has a problem with Olbermann calling countless people the “worst person in the world” repeatedly?

    Worst in the world? Really? He’ll stand behind that? I hope so… because if not, he’s contradicting his claim that words are always literal, concrete assertions that lead people to take matters into their own hands.

    Olbermann laughed at Fox News over the New Black Panthers calling for the murder of white babies. He laughed, and mocked people for fearing their words. But now all of a sudden words matter? And analagous, rhetorical ones at that? Ones taken completely out of context?

    He’s a hypocrite and a hack, and he knows it.

      He said Arizona is the “Tombstone State”. This sheriff is a true hatriot, who should not be in public office.

      Everybody has their theories as to why the left-wing media, (and this less than honorable sheriff), is going all-in, losing the very last of its credibility, trying to pin this on the right.

      The answer IMO is very clear.

      They are trying to inflame the anger of their base, the far left, into more violence. They have given-up trying to push the right into violence, nothing so far has worked, so they will use the far-left.

      But wait it gets better…

      They will STILL blame talk radio and Fox, saying that the right has so-angered the fringe left, that they have pushed them into violence! Yea, and tabloid hacks like Geraldo will be right there in the middle of it, gently nudging the lefts agenda from within the protection of Fox News, the sometimes seemingly “controlled” opposition news source.

      Loughner’s mother works on the Pima County Board of Supervisors and her son is kicked out of college due to his behavior…..he then proceeds to buy a gun in Pima County. The sheriff feels that he best serves the citizens of Pima County by making unsubstantiated political claims against his political enemies immediately after a tragedy. This is how you protect your constituents, sheriff?? That sounds like Progressive law enforcement….go after your enemies.

      This is the report that Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik has been dreading since the tragic event on Saturday January 8.

      The sheriff has been editorializing and politicizing the event since he took the podium to report on the incident. His blaming of radio personalities and bloggers is a pre-emptive strike because Mr. Dupnik knows this tragedy lays at his feet and his office. Six people died on his watch and he could have prevented it. He needs to step up and start apologizing to the families of the victims instead of spinning this event to serve his own political agenda.

      Jared Loughner, pronounced by the Sheriff as Lock-ner, saying it was the Polish pronunciation. Of course he meant Scott or Irish but that isn’t the point. The point is he and his office have had previous contact with the alleged assailant in the past and that is how he knows how to pronounce the name.

      Jared Loughner has been making death threats by phone to many people in Pima County including staff of Pima Community College, radio personalities and local bloggers. When Pima County Sheriff’s Office was informed, his deputies assured the victims that he was being well managed by the mental health system. It was also suggested that further pressing of charges would be unnecessary and probably cause more problems than it solved as Jared Loughner has a family member that works for Pima County. Amy Loughner is a Natural Resource specialist for the Pima County Parks and Recreation. My sympathies and my heart goes out to her and the rest of Mr. Loughner’s family. This tragedy must be tearing them up inside wondering if they had done the right things in trying to manage Jared’s obvious mental instability.

      Every victim of his threats previously must also be wondering if this tragedy could have been prevented if they had been more aggressive in pursuing charges against Mr. Loughner. Perhaps with a felony conviction he would never have been able to lawfully by the Glock 9mm Model 19 that he used to strike down the lives of six people and decimate 14 more.

      This was not an act of politics. This was an act of a mentally disturbed young man hell bent on getting his 15 minutes of infamy. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department was aware of his violent nature and they failed to act appropriately. This tragedy leads right back to Sherriff Dupnik and all the spin in the world is not going to change that fact.

      I’m beginning to wonder about whether Glenn, Sarah and Rush should all start talking about filing slander suits against this guy and Olberman. He’s got absolutely no proof of anything, yet he keeps flapping his gums and making baseless accusations. He’s a sheriff, which makes him “law enforcement”, so it’s not quite the same as the Average Guy on the street.

      Arizona sherriff’s are by nature political. Dupnik is re-elected by a strong liberal base in Tucson (university town). Joe Arpaio is re-elected by a more conservative Maricopa county (working town). If Dupnik was the soft hearted liberal he portrays then he should have helped the accused to get psychiatric help due to his continual death threats. Instead he ignored him and now has to blame someone else for the destruction caused by his inaction.
