Current TV‘s Cenk Uygur Slams Fox News Over Stossel’s Poverty Experiment: ‘Is That What Jesus Christ Would Have Done?’

Current Cenk Uygur Slams Fox, John Stossel for Anti Christian Values? On Thursday, The Blaze brought you footage of Fox Business Network host John Stossel posing as a homeless man in New York City. As we noted, on “Fox & Friends” yesterday morning, Stossel used the video in a discussion about freeloaders and the culture of dependency that he believes the federal government is breeding.

Not everyone found the segment to be enlightening. In fact, Current TV’s Cenk Uygur was less-than-pleased with Stossel’s commentary, calling both the host and Fox News out for standing against Christian values.

(Related: Have You Seen the Footage of John Stossel Posing as a Homeless Man in NYC?)

Uygur slammed Stossel’s experiment and mimicked it, saying, ”Yeah, you shouldn‘t give to street people because I did an experiment where I sat outside on my ass and some people were decent enough to think that I wasn’t messing with them — and thought I really needed help and they gave me money…”

The Current host went on to admit that many of the poor and homeless have addiction problems, but that those in need shouldn’t be derided due to their socioeconomic status. Then, he went on to claim that both Stossel and the network are acting against the “Christian values” they apparently claim to embrace.

“This is the channel that claims they’re in favor of Christian values. Is that what Jesus Christ would have done?,” Uygur asked. “A segment on how you shouldn’t help the poor and homeless? And they call it entitlement in the banner. Who’s entitled? They’re begging for money!”

And he wasn’t done there.

“It’s not the Christian thing to do to make fun of them. So stop pretending that you care about Christian values at all,” he continued.

Watch Uygur’s rant, below:

This guy lecturing about what Christianity and Jesus taught is hilarious……better stick with the liberal talking points buster. If a man shall not work neither shall he eat…Wow wonder where that is written? To give money to an addict without accountability on how it is used is actually a form of hatred, but of course I wouldn’t expect a liberal to even comprehend that idea…much less that they are poor because of the emotional issues that cause their addictions. Not addicted because they became poor. Unless they change their ways they will always remain poor and downtrodden. This is an argument made from emotion with no intellect involved whatsoever.

A group of dictatorial government elite forcing you to give your money to them in the form of taxes so they can redistribute it in any way they see fit whether you agree with it or not is not Christian this is very evil and is Satanic and is just plain robbery. Christian giving is when a person in their daily lives with their own personal funds has the free right to choose whether to help someone in need.

I’m not a fan of this Cenk Uygur guy but this time he has a valid point. Stossel was being callous and elitest in this report. First we have to hear this hypocrite tell us that he took advantage of a government insurance deal when he built his beach house then he has the nerve to pretend he’s homeless and tell people NOT to give to them! Don’t tell me that my hand-outs to the homeless is a bad idea because they only spend it on alcohol, so what! It’s not up to me to tell these homeless people how to spend their money! Isn’t that one of our big complaints about government that they are always telling us that they know better than we do regarding how we spend our money? I give because Christ tells me to give. What the homeless do with it is their choice and they will be accountable for it. I on the other hand will be accountable for how I spend my money and if I choose to help a guy living on the streets so be it!

Funny, a radical like Cenk is a perfect fit for Current TV which is the wasteland for has-been or wanna be liberal talking mouths. If he was such a hit, he would be on one of those “other” networks and not just a YouTube staple.

Oh, um… WSJ just had a report out naming Current TV as one of the brands going BYE BYE in 2013 because they can’t financially sustain the business. Hmmmmm, I wonder why that would be the case?

I think data would most likely support that most of the money given to homeless people directly on the streets will most likely be used to support an untreated drug or alcohol addiction.

I believe Stossel is an agnostic. He’s said as much on his show on numerous occasions, he even did a show about it once. He certainly isn’t making any claims about “Christian values”, as Uygur says.

Anyway, Jesus didn’t need to experiment about anything. He already knew. His word is authoritative and He spoke truth. He never said “Thus saith the Lord,” but instead He always said, “I say to you.”

Taken from “On the Price of Corn and Management of the Poor”, 1766 by Benjamin Franklin:

I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer. There is no country in the world where so many provisions are established for them; so many hospitals to receive them when they are sick or lame, founded and maintained by voluntary charities; so many alms-houses for the aged of both sexes, together with a solemn general law made by the rich to subject their estates to a heavy tax for the support of the poor. Under all these obligations, are our poor modest, humble, and thankful; and do they use their best endeavors to maintain themselves, and lighten our shoulders of this burthen? (cont)

When I was in Washington DC some years ago, I saw a guy with a begging cup. Later that night I dropped into a nearby fast-food place for something to eat and there was the same guy with a couple of mates.

They were comparing their “take” for the evening. I don’t know how much money they made which they were counting, but there was a LOT of money in their hands.

In New York, I saw a crippled homeless woman on crutches who had a twisted foot and could hardly walk. She was getting a lot of money. I was curious because she also seemed to have a male minder, so I hung around and watched from a small distance.

Imagine my surprise when, after about half an hour, she suddenly stood up straight, eased her back muscles, and walked normally for a short distance before returning to her “crippled” pose.

The thing about Al that I like personally is how he sets such a good example for others to follow, like having the same electricity bill as his neighbors – all of them – combined. And how he always makes sure that there’s at least one other person riding in his private jet when he goes to the climate change conferences – you know, jet-pooling. That way, he can fly in the jet-pool lane. Of course, since he invented the internet, almost all those conferences are done by teleconferencing – not.

Alinsky was Jewish. Like Cenk, he only knows Christian values by what he sees. I see a lot of people on this site who proclaim themselves Christians yet post the most hateful, fearful comments. And this whole idea that Beck gives you about “making the poor uncomfortable with their poverty” is not something that Jesus would recognize as his teachings. Jesus was always kind and respectful to the poor. He did get very pointed about the rich and the comfortable, though. He told them to give it all away.

“He told them to give it all away”

He told one rich man to give it all away. Not because there’s virtue in giving your money away. It was to prove the man that if he wasn’t willing to forsake all to follow Him, he could not be born again.

And as far as christians posting “hateful’ comments… Boo hoo. Hate is the new racists. You guys have over played the hate card. You can’t scare us with it. This idiot has never given a dime of his OWN money to any charitable cause—I’d bet money on it!
