Those who have been following The Blaze and GBTV might already know about the launch of Glenn Beck’s American Dream Labs and some of the new initiatives slated to take place this year at this world-class studio. Wednesday night marked one such occasion as a true-to-life Oval Office replica was unveiled on GBTV at American Dream Labs. Better still, Beck delivered a speech — the one President Obama “should have” — from this very replica.

Members of the GBTV staff took great pains to reproduce the one-time movie-set to “exact-detail,” even consulting a White House curator. Beck said the effort was intended to provide viewers a frame of reference and place from which to compare the president’s past and future speeches against what he “should be saying.”

“The Oval Office is a landmark,” Beck said. It has always represented a “sense of stability,” but as the First Lady warned us, “Barack… knows we’re going to have to change our traditions.”

Below is Michelle Obama in her own words:

“Barack knows we’re gonna have to make sacrifices,” Michelle Obama said. “We’re gonna have to change our conversations. We’re gonna have to change our traditions, our history. We’re gonna have to move into a different place.”

To illustrate, Beck asked viewers to imagine their families stopped celebrating birthdays and holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Then, years later, Beck turns up and decides that it is high time their families started celebrating again. On Thanksgiving, “everyone gathers around the table to eat and in comes dad with the carving knives, ready to carve the turkey.” But instead of turkey, “it’s now chicken.”

Since the main structure of the holiday had remained essentially the same, people would likely accept the chicken substitute, but the old traditions and symbolism they encompass would be gone. Tradition changed slowly, subtly while people moved on, not noticing the changes that had occurred around them.

That is what Beck sees happening: “we have chicken in the Oval Office.”

Troubled with the fact that President Obama, in breaking with tradition, rarely uses the Oval Office as place from which to address the American people, Beck shared with viewers a stark observation: Obama uses the Oval Office as a prop only.

If one is vigilant a pattern emerges where Obama can be seen using various shots of the Oval Office

Below, Beck explains why the Oval Office is so important:

Beck scrolled through clips of Obama at the White House and a starting patter emerged. There Obama can be seen:

At the White House rose garden; near the cozy Oval Office fireplace; outside the Oval Office entrance; walking his dogs outside the Oval Office; chatting on the phone to Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev from the Oval Office; showing Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt around the Oval office; and worst yet — standing next to the Oval Office sewer gate. “The president is standing next to a sewer gate!” Beck exclaimed.

Along with being disrespectful, Beck noted “it is such a careless attitude to have.”

Of all the beautiful and historic places in the White House to hold a press conference, “this was the best choice that day?” Beck quipped. He then asked why the podium was not placed by the White House “dumpster” instead.

Beck, bothered by the pattern, then asked who is “behind these decisions.”

“They seem to treat the Oval Office like the president’s best accessory.”

Traditionally, the Oval Office is a symbol of power and strength. It is a security blanket and source of comfort for the American people. When the country is at war, or in times of strife, the president speaks from the Oval Office to provide a sense of solace to citizens. It is something of which to be proud. Yet Obama rarely stands there. And perhaps, it is because he doesn’t want to.

“Everything in our culture is being changed,” Beck observed, and “we can not lose our nation’s symbols.”

“We can‘t stand for distorted images of our country’s history.”

Traditionally, leaders and movements seeking to fundamentally transform nations change things subtly, over time. In turn, they will typically keep many of the familiar trappings so as not to rouse suspicion. Until one day “you wake up and don’t realize how far you have come from the original ideals upon which the nation was founded.”

Since President Obama has been in office he has addressed the nation from the Oval Office only twice. The first time was in June 2010 after the BP oil spill, the second just two months later when he announced to the nation that he would be ending the U.S. combat mission in Iraq. Compare these numbers to former presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, who addressed the country from the Oval Office nine times each in their first three years, respectively. For his part, George H.W. Bush conducted  all of his 11 speeches from the Oval Office.

“Our traditions are fading away,” noted Beck solemnly.

Because of what he sees as a void in the current Oval Office, Beck then delivered the speech he believes Obama should have delivered two years ago. The video clip along with transcript is featured below.

Hinting to his speech, Beck said he would not tackle the current race-wars being waged across the country, as they anger him, and a speech from the Oval Office “should never be angry.”

“It’s measured, it’s about values… principles.“ A leader ”inspires people to be better than they are.”

Below is Beck’s speech. The one he believes Obama should have given:

 

Hello America,

Today we are going to try something new. 

I am going to sit here and say what we all know is true… but which everyone is afraid to say.

I am going to talk about what made this country is great… but why it is risking its greatness.

This is what our leaders should be doing. This is what our leaders are paid to do. This is why we give them advisers… and airplanes to travel the world… and beautiful offices, just like this one.

But they don’t do it. They won’t do it. 

So I will.

Let’s start with a simple observation. Before World War II, before the New Deal, here is what Washington D.C. looked like. It was a backwater. A swampy, sleepy city where nothing much happened.

And that was by design. The Founding Fathers wanted Washington D.C. to be a city of inaction. Of limited power. 

Today, it is the imperial city. 

The Washington D.C. metropolitan area is the wealthiest area of the country. And yet it boasts only one industry – the government. Only one major employer – the government. And only one product – more government.

Today, we see Washington’s growth has cost us. While Washington blossoms, America is hollowed out. Its once great industries and industrial cities have emptied out. Block after block. Abandoned.

But in Washington, there is no recession. Home prices continue to rise. Unemployment continues to fall. This is a city on the move. And it is on the move in the only direction it knows: Up. 

There is no such thing as a recession in government. When times are good, it gets bigger. When times are bad, it gets even bigger. 

The leaders in the imperial city now call for more taxes, more tribute and more government. They are willing to strangle the last remaining signs of life and prosperity in the great heartland. 

There is only one way out of this mess. 

And it is this: We must stop looking to Washington D.C. for solutions to the problems we face at home and in our communities. 

We must end our dependency on Washington D.C. We must look at Washington as the source of our problems… not the solution to them. When Washington comes to us selling their one product, which is more government, we will just say: No thanks. We’re not interested… and we’re not buying.

Simply doing that one thing will make a lot of things easier.

It will be easy to close federal departments and agencies. Empty them out. 

It will be easy to fire federal workers, and see them apply their skills in the private sector. Things will work out for them.

It will be easy to go back to the work of rebuilding our communities without the distraction and red tape created by every new law and regulation that comes out of Washington D.C. We will simply do the work that needed to be done.

That‘s where America’s renewal will begin. I wish we could take the time to unwind Washington steadily and slowly, but I am afraid we are running out of time. We have to simply cut the cord, and let Washington go.

I know that will hurt home values in metropolitan Washington, but that’s how these things go when you live in a one company town. 

And if Washington can’t understand that, there are plenty of Americans who know what that’s like. And if Washington is willing to listen, America is ready to share what it knows about resilience.

      I know that his “Church ” did for a fact, I remember there was a picture on the net before his campaign to expunge the net of his history. Of Heir Obama and Arafat at either end of a table along with a few other of Obama’s friends (PLO) in between. It looked real, I blew it up and the pixels looked right. I had linked to it but it came down rather quick. ( I know now that I should have copied to my computer) It was on his Churches’ web site. ( rev. Wright )

      I watch Becks daily show on GBTV and listen to his radio show as well. But I have to wonder about this oval office thing and forum he has created around it. I know he mentioned the precedence of such a thing via Westwing but thats a TV series. Beck is doing serious commentary on Americas issues from behind a mock Oval and desk is yet an entirely unprecedented move by anyone in the media or as an activist. Couple this with his awarding himself the merit badge, sewing on his jacket various symbols really makes one wonder if Beck has lost his sense of just being a simple guy or has he elevated self above to a place where he blurs the lines between our government and his stage version. Make no mistake he is not cracking jokes while sitting behind that desk, he wants to be taken deadly serious (no statire) as if he was speaking as POTUS. The reality is that he could never be president and I highly doubt he would even want the job. I think the Oval office is a bridge to far. I support Beck in all other respects.

      There is a simple reason why Glenn has chosen to speak to the American people in the studio that is a replica of the oval office. None of which has to do with his ego. An egocentric person is just concerned with self. They are not concerned with sacrifice. Glenn has taken this road at severe personal sacrifice. The attacks against him and his family have been and will continue to be great. He chooses to be on this road because he is not concerned about self. He is more concerned about country and about his fellow citizens. These days when you expose evil and attach yourself to the truth it comes at tremendous personal cost. He is a man of honor. I respect him.       @whywonder The big point I see is the APATHY of most Americans. People who are too lazy to get out and see who they are “letting” go to Washington. The majority of Americans don’t go vote when it is time for a new congressman. It is a small majority that vote them in or let then stay in office. This has allowed the career politicians who have been there too many years, some even forty years, who are corrupted by lobbyists big corps etc. to stay in office. This besides the bad President we have now who is trying to bury our history with his abuse of power, I think the set Glenn said will only be temporary, is a good reminder to the American people about what we SHOULD be fighting for, LIBERTY.

    Beck will turn this into a nightmare for Obama as many of us tweeted, youtubed, etc. the speech and the video. It will take on a life of its own as GBTV supporters publicize what this is all about–Beck helps Americans see obama for what he is and what he is trying to do the United States.

      @CLUNKERT I noticed that he distanced himself pretty early into the Obama campaign on the birther issue.. I remember someone saying that Glenn had referred to himself as the rodeo clown..what did he mean by that? Is the government the bull..or are we?       To Chiefgeorge, I agree the vision of Glenn behind the desk in the Oval Office is unsettling. When he did th honor business on the Washington Mall, it seemed like he was promoting himself as a savior, using the monuments in the back ground and testaments about how good Glenn was and all those tears. When he split off from Fox I dropped him because he seems to have lost the original feistiness and elevated himself to demagogue. I still watch him in passing but his self-promotion is obnoxioius

    Until Glenn stops smearing old enemies (ones that don’t deserve it), I really don’t give a CRAP if he plays “pretend” president, and builds a fancy OVAL OFFICE copy to impress his fans (?) or what he says (he says stuff to sell stuff), I WILL NOT support his efforts to take money from older folks who believe in and trust this PHONY!.

    He has ignored advice from his fans and his staff, I assure you, he just can’t let the SHOCK JOCK ANTICS go, and he wonders why he has to worry no one is buying his Schitck anymore.

    He wants respect, but at the same time he shows he is regressing back to that same old drunk A$$
    hole he was when he bottomed out as a DIRT BAG.

    I questioned his “worth” as a man, and when I saw the ticket prices last year in Comedy show in San Antonio to meet him for over $500 (meet and greet).

    I bought two tickets (audience) for $190 for me and my daughter for the “ELEGANT ELIMINATIONS TOUR”.

    All the “funny” stuff was about his “CRAPPY SHOW and his eating habits!!!???

    I knew rgw GBTV venture had one good shot with a good fan base to start\, and he decides to offend about 30% of them the first 6 months, and the BS of A is stinko !

    HIs 5pm show has gotten better (taking advice I see from fans I see!!!), and has some of the old TV shows feel to it, but is in desperation, he has offended so many fans, and STILL DOES???

    Next time he HAS to go see a Doctor, and he will, GOD IS watching, make it a SHRINK !!!

    I, too, found the background music and “floating” camera shots somewhat distracting. My recollection of presidential speeches from the Oval Office don’t include background audio and the President speaks directly into the camera. This conveys the impression that the President is talking directly to ME, and lends power and authority to the delivery.

    That said, the concept is excellent. So I give it 5 stars for the concept and content, but only two stars for the delivery. Drop the background music and roving camera, and I’ll give the delivery 5 stars too.

      I agree that the camera shots, music, etc. distracted from the message. Having read the message on The Blaze, wish I’d been able to truly “hear” it better than I did last night. I also found a couple of times I had to increase the volume on my television to hear it.

      I’d like to see him deliver these speeches like I remember Reagan doing: straight on–plain and simple. That’s all that was necessary for that great man. :)

      Yes, the video effects are very distracting. It gets to the point that you no longer hear the message and are just wandering how the next shot is going to be presented.       I agree! The message of the speech was great but, the awful camera work was so bad it was almost impossible to concentrate on the message. Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles would have done a better job operating the cameras.

    The money that Glenn has he should be buying 30 second spots on national TV, not sitting in a mock Oval office preaching to the choir. He should hire me as media guru and actually spread his message to the nation, not sit back and let people find him. You want to change America, you have to speak TO America. It ain’t watching GBTV.       The message was great, as it always is. He speaks the truth always. But there is no way that the visual and music are going to fly. Glenn, be who you are. Keep the Oval scene but be you, not some make believe POTUS. It is not you. Wear the silly suspenders, goofy red pants, all of your 1791 get up. The idea is good, but the presentation is too scripted and will not be taken seriously by any, other than your dedicated fans, which I am one and am shaking my head a bit. Sorry, but this is not a message in its current presentation that I could sell my most dedicated friends. Tone it down, you do not need props and a telepromter. Love ya!

      S03, that IS a great idea, but it doesn’t mean one has to necessarily negate the other. If he can acquire enough funds, he could do both. :) He could also film some other great patriots for “spots” as well–that would be even better than just hearing the same messages from one man–show there are plenty more where Glenn comes from! :)

      Go, Glenn. He’s always coming up with great ideas and is so creative! And if we’re honest, he’s doing a TON more to help save this country than most of us. And–these things have not just been handed to him–he’s worked HARD for them, even despite many physical, ongoing trials!

      Glenn may joke around and even call himself a “rodeo clown,” but he’s NO dummy. And that’s what irks and has the left as afraid of him as they are.

      As much as I dislike him as our president, I honestly don’t wish him ill. But I DID notice he’s awfully skinny. . . but it might be deliberate. . .? Maybe Michelle had him convinced about the camera putting 10 pounds on to him and if that‘s really true then now he’s REALLY skinny. He doesn’t look healthy now, IMO–TOO skinny. He’s a slender man, naturally, but it‘s looking like we don’t feed him!

It would go against the republican establishment, and the military industrial complex. Vote Paul and that will indeed show true fortitude and integrity.     The music AND the moving screen shots were a total distraction.

    The speech sounded contrived.

    Why not give a weekly speech and speak directly about the current topics such as the Treyvon Martin case or any other pertinent topic of the week.

    These talks shouldn’t be about generalities but specific topics that a President should address for the benefit of the American public.

    This is a fantastic idea on Glenn’s part but the delivery and subject-matter have to be changed.

    Glenn, just get up there and speak from your heart because that’s what you do best. You don’t need phony sounding distractions to enhance the topic.

    Final rating – 4 out of 10 The idea is a 10 +++

      Every time the president opens his mouth, most people I know get that sick feeling when your ears no longer work, and you ask, “please make it stop”.

    Its interesting, I noticed this same thing a few months back, its like the President doesn’t like the Oval office, doesn’t like to be behind the desk…. that particular view of a President behind the desk addressing the People is one of the strongest and most important place and position for the President to speak to the People and speak to the World, that is where the President should be and that is where it shows a grounded and important display of this Country, and the President and the importance of the words, the man and the Country gives to the public.

    The reason he doesn’t sit behind that desk is simply because he is and has been indoctrinated by black liberation/power ideology. To him that desk and office represent everything he hates. “White man’s greed runs a world in need”. The historical people that have spoken from that place have perpetrated every crime against him, his people and the world. He must loathe the very essence of the place.

    I hope we relieve him of that burden soon.

      He is ashamed, maybe to sit in the Oval Office. He knows he does not belong there? Did I say ashamed? He may be afraid of the ghosts of past presidents who made this Republic the way it was supposed to be. He knows he is attempting to tear it down.

    Miche;lle Obama and Mr. Beck are saying the same thing: That we can’t continue to keep doing things the way we have been doing them.

    Mr. Beck’s solution of stripping the citizenry of all the mechanisms that have been put in place to redress various grievances puts the the United States on the road to Fascism.

      Fascism requires big government, moron.

      You can’t round people up or control their behaviors with a tiny government.

      You can, however, when you try to control the nation by executive order, congressional endarounds, and Newspeak. In short, Beck isn;t putting us on the road to fascism. Obama already has us there.

      Northern Italy is a Fascist state with the southern areas being predominately capitalist / democratic. Visit companies in each area and there is no comparison, much like there is no comparison to what FLOTUS and GB are saying. Educate yourself, you sound foolish regardless of whos position you support.

    I have heard this speech several times over the last few months-but there is something about SEEING the words—how amazing that here we are 45 years later being faced with the same things all over again…..
    Who will be OUR Ronald Reagan–our leader that emerges to draw the line in the sand?

    Are you out there? To be the pivot point, the lightning rod that makes all those that oppose freedom and truth stand up and take notice instead of swatting at the citizens like flies?
    Who will speak freely of love of God, love of counrty, and love of fellow man with a passion that will NOT be extinquished by mere name calling and lies?
    We need a leader to charge into that good night and carry forth the light which refuses to be put out! Once again taking our rightful place as that beacon upon a hill for the world to see!

      You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man’s age-old dream-the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism.       I think they want riots in the streets this summer, I work at a College in Upstate NY and was just reading in the student newspaper on how the Student loan rates are to double on July 1. I think its a move by this Administration to get more students in the streets so they have a reason to bring out the guard onto our streets.

      When he called it a one company town, what do you think he WAS saying???? He did great! get off his back! you are just looking for someone to wave a magic wand and solve everything with one speech???? I hope this makes the rounds on the circuits. People need to hear what leadership should sound like again. Not a pile of empty promises and sales pitches, but clear definition of what the problem at hand is, and why it is detrimental, and not packaged with a bunch of act now freebees to market it…but clear cut inspiration that motivates the people to solve these issues themselves! HE DID GREAT! ‘Atta Boy Glenn!

      Stossel is awesome, though I have never seen anything like this. He does some great monologues, as does Glenn…but somehow, that set, and the reverence attached (well, if you revere the office of the presidency of the United States) really added impact to what would have simply been another right on point monologue. I was truly worried it would be a fiasco, He pulled it off with flying colors! Tough gig! great marketing strategy! the man’s a genius !

    I just seen “the Imperial City”….I was wrong. That was Beautiful! yes, thats what should come from behind that desk! That was moving and accurate, and tastefully done…It provided answers and hope . It was full of spirit and life and direction. Magnificent! Sorry for doubting you!
