Dad Who Shot Daughter’s Laptop Faces Massive Public Blowback

Remember Tommy Jordan, the dad who reacted to his daughter whining about his parenting on Facebook by shooting her laptop, and put it on Youtube? (Related: Viral Video: Angry Dad Shoots Daughter’s Laptop With .45 Pistol After Finding Secret Facebook Post) Apparently having an arguable overreaction to teenage rebellion go viral makes parenting more difficult. And not just because the cops decide to follow up with you. (Related: Dad Who Shot Up Daughter’s Laptop With a .45 Says Cops Paid Him a Visit.) The internet also explodes.
At least, that’s what Jordan has learned. The video has sparked blowback both of the positive and negative variety, with some people calling Jordan a monstrous, abusive redneck, and other people wanting him to run for President. Jordan explains:
“There’s been like 10,000 online going, ‘Oh my god you gun-toting, hillbilly, uneducated, redneck, child abusing…,” Tommy explains.
“Then there’s everything from, ‘Tommy for president,‘ ’Tommy’s my hero,‘ ’Tommy you’re a great dad.’ (The video) is 8:23 of my life. You don‘t know if I’m a good dad or not based on that,” Jordan told WBTV. “I’m glad you think I am. But you really don’t know. And you really don‘t know if I’m a horrible parent based on that. It was an eight minute glimpse into one person’s life at a fairly emotional moment.”[...]
“It put my family through a lot of stress,” Tommy says. “A lot of people are under the impression I’m mad that my daughter thought she had to do chores. I couldn‘t care less if she’s mad about that. If kids enjoyed doing it, it would be called a hobby. What I cared about was the language she used. That hurt. My kid is better than that you know.”
A more interesting fact is that Jordan’s daughter apparently only just moved in with the man, and the Facebook dispute was just part of the process of them learning to communicate. Parents have had troubles like that before, though shooting a laptop is still arguably, at the very least, a waste of good hardware.

Posted on April 21, 2012 at 6:48pmI agree with the DAD. I stomped on my 14-year old daughter’s iPad. She will never get another technical device until she leaves my home at 18. MY HOUSE. MY RULES. OR, GO LIVE WITH A FOSTER FAMILY. Not a problem here. Wanna know what she did? I walked in to find her in bed with her boyfriend and playing on her iPad. She was naked and her bedroom door was closed. She got snotty with me and my Wife. So, I took her PC, her iPad, and her phone and smashed them to little tiny bits. MY HOUSE. MY RULES. My Wife agrees with me. This kid will not obey the rules, no matter what I do, so I have no choice. No yelling. No screaming. No anger. I just walked in….stared at her (she stared back in defiance), slowly walked over, grabbed the technical devices, took them outside with a hammer and crushed them. SHE came out screaming obscenities at me. I called the Police and had her arrested for domestic violence. She steals. She lies. She does it all, at 14 years old. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Well, it does not matter anymore. I did it. She is now begging to come home from her foster parents. It seems they are not so nice to her. I told her I would think about it (of course eventually we will take her back), but, SHE WILL HAVE TO OBEY MY RULES – PERIOD, or out she goes. Too many kids hold their parents hostage to anything and everything. Well, not in my house! Sorry folks, this has been a long time coming.

Posted on April 21, 2012 at 11:04pm@IsupportGod’sIsrael! Wow. Well, I applaud you for not allowing her to rule over you in your own home. I must say, if she’s in public school, that might be one reason for her problems. I’d recommend, if possible, to sending her to a private school. It‘s better to discipline your kids when they’re young, as they will most likely learn their lesson and not rebel against your authority. Once they reach that age of 16 years old, things change quite a bit. I pray that everything goes well, and that you teach her the importance of respect, decency, morality, knowledge, reverence for God, modesty and manners. I assure you, TV, public schools, friends, local clubs, etc. are NOT teaching your kids that, in this day and age. Unfortunately, our society has gone downwards, and moral standards along with common courtesy is not taught, encouraged, or emphasized any longer. God bless.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 6:59pmThe day we took God out of the schools and began protecting our children’s self esteem, we created monsters who now shoot up schools and join gangs in order to feel as if part of a family and feel it is their duty to Occupy everything. The parents of today have been duped in believing the path of least resistance is the way to go in raising their children. We must have that new car, new house and to achieve that status, both parents have to work full time. We are now reaping what we have sown. At least this dad took a stand and made his daughter understand there are consequences for poor behavior. This is a good thing and the fact the media has continued the story will only embolden other parents to step up and be responsible. Well done Dad.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 8:13pmYou’re absolutely right.
What are these public schools teaching kids today? What happened to respect, manners, and discipline?
Unfortunately, the federal Government unprecedentedly took it upon itself to remove the ten commandments out of OUR schools, just a few decades ago. You know, those dangerous principles deemed harmful to our youth… With the abandonment of those ten honored precepts, so went respect for higher authority, respect for one’s community, respect for one’s family, respect for public order, respect for life, respect for liberty, respect for one’s neighbor, and respect for private property. Thanks to a few activist liberal judges that felt compelled to force upon the American people their Marxist agenda, we no longer have a federal Union under a constitutional General Government, but a national central absolutist Government. And thanks to the progressives and closet communists that paved the road for those traitors to make such decisions, we now have a corrupt justice system wherein the wicked are protected and innocent are left to hang. Letting a rapist or murderer out in ten to thirty years is not justice or true judgement. And caring for them their whole lives is absolute corruption.
“Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.”

Yes, I would agree with that factual statement. But our current president’s hero, Mao, made that statement first. “Power comes from the barrel of a gun”, he famously quipped.
It’s as true today as it was then. If you don’t believe it, then ask yourself why police have firearms. Authority doesn’t exist without the FORCE to compel people to acknowledge it. For a great example, try policing your kids’ behavior solely through verbal means, such as harsh language. Tell us just how many seconds that works.

We all know REPUBLICOMMIE voted for Obama, and wants us, REAL AMERICANS, to spread “Democracy” around the world with the blood of our friends and family. REPUBEY hasn’t the slightest idea what it means to be free and independent. Most of these wars he has wet dreams about are on the premise of spreading Democracy around the globe, and not based on conducting war under our Constitutional duty to provide for the common defense. To him common means global. REPULSIVEDORK wants us to build four billion dollar embassies in the middle of a desert, while we’re broke, in debt, and enslaved to our creditors. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,476464,00.html BANANAREPUBLICORK would love for the US to spread Democracy on our dime, time, and energy. REDICULOUSCORP is just a leftist troll that hates the wisdom of our founding fathers.
John Adams said, “Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.”
REPUBLICOOK would just love Global Communism.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 10:38pmOur economy is tanking, our dollar is losing value and our debt is ever increasing, and you think discussing oversea expenditures is communist? LMAO!
What’s wrong with having Congress write a Declaration of War, as per the requirement in the Constitution, and then having our Commander in Chief, properly authorized and fully commissioned, to fight our enemies, win the war, and come back home? What’s wrong with not wanting to engage in nation building?
Father of the Constitution, James Madison, said, “The power to declare war, including the power of judging the causes of war, is fully and exclusively vested in the legislature… the executive has no right, in any case, to decide the question, whether there is or is not cause for declaring war.”
Our first President, George Washington, said, “The constitution vests the power of declaring war in Congress; therefore no offensive expedition of importance can be undertaken until after they shall have deliberated upon the subject and authorized such a measure.”
The only commies are those who stick their head in the a55 when it comes to confronting HISTORICALLY SUPPORTED constitutional positions, as they can’t dare abandon their progressive positions.
How is building a 4 billion dollar embassy in a wasteland beneficial to National Defense?
We’re the greatest military in the world. There’s no need to empower Congress with unprecedented powers to go after our enemies. Should the TSA check under your bed?
