Dad Who Used Laser Pointer to ‘Blind’ Rival High School Goalie Speaks Out: ‘Sickening’

Dad Who Aimed Laser Pointer in Eyes of High School Goalie Speaks OutA Massachusetts man who aimed a laser pointer into the eyes of the opposing goalie during his daughter’s recent hockey game is facing the criminal charge for disturbing the peace. And now he’s speaking out about the incident.

Joseph Cordes, the father in question, said of the event, “I wish I could undo it…I feel like a complete jerk. It was very stupid, completely immature for a 42-year-old man to be doing that…My daughter, the humiliation I put her through is sickening to tell you the truth.”

Even though Cordes was ordered out before the playoff game ended, the opposing team was unable to recover.

“It’s kind of like when you look at the sun and then you look away you see that spot and you can’t see for a couple of seconds. You shake your head and try to get it out of the system and just keep focusing, but it’s difficult,” the goalie said.

The governing body of high school sports in Massachusetts denied the appeal to replay the game, prompting disappointment from both teams.

See Cordes discuss about the event with WBZ-TV, below:

By the way, do you think the father should be facing criminal charges for his actions?

This surprises you? This is the “sport” that fans encourage fighting between teams and the players are willing. Sportsmanship is lost in this game. So, why not let the fans be a part?

      Ya. Well done?

I suppose it’s “Well Done” when idiots point lasers at airplanes and get arrested then confess to their crime. They fessed up so I guess it’s “Well Done” also even though the plane might have crashed and killed passengers.
      “Well Done”?
When you buy a laser is states on the package NOT to shine it into anyone’s eyes as it might cause blindness.
      “Well Done”?
I think NOT! This idiot father is 42 years old. I hope he’s charged with something more severe than disturbing the peace. Some jail time would be in order here.

Many parents see high school sports as a high point of their kid’s lives or a key stepping stone for their future success, which is a depressing realization.

    Look what they will do.

I suspect that this family will be moving because of the father’s actions.

In Indiana, it’s a crime to aim any form of laser device at a first responder, that’s police, medical, or fire. Since these agents of the state are by no means the super-citizens that Leftists think the Right thinks they are by carrying guns, I say a little equality is called for. If anyone points a laser device of any kind at anyone and results in that targetted individual losing performance or even being distracted, then it should be charged as a felony.

Office laser pointers are far from safe devices. There is absolutely zero legitimate reason to ever aim one into the eyes of any living creature.

These incidents you‘re hearing about don’t involve the laser pointers used for presentations in office meetings. Those are designed for very short range use and are legally limited to less than 5mW in power.

The ones being used in incidents like this are much higher powered lasers augmented by IR generally in the range of 300-1000mW. If you have one of these you know damn well it’s dangerous, because you intentionally sought it out specifically because of it’s power. These aren’t the laser pointers you buy at office max. The ones used in these incidents clearly project a visible beam of light even in brightly lit environments, which is why they always get caught.

Psycho sports fans like this man, is ruining sports. They’ve sucked all the fun out of sports.
Sports are no longer a game. Fans and players have gotten so mean and violent.
I no longer attend any sporting events. They no longer get a dime of my money.

I’m sick of the fans spewing hate, the fighting, the rudeness, the drunks, and having their beers spilled on me. I don’t drink, so that’s a major turn-off.
Then these idiots stagger out across the parking lot, and get behind the wheel of their vehicle, endangering others as they try to drive home.

Wish more people would get as excited over God and church, as they do about athletes and sports.

A time not so long ago Mr. Laser would have been escorted to the parking lot, by a few of the good citizens of the community, at which point the good citizens would beat the living hell out of him. There would be no police, media or big news headlines, just an idiot in a parking lot, nursing some wounds and contemplating the valuable lesson he just learned. That would be the end of that. I would imagine that during that time Mr. Laser might have thought up his under-handed scheme but knowing that doing such things would get him escorted to the parking lot, he more than likely not have acted upon his scheme. Neighbors looking out for neighbors, community involvement, taking care of your own. That used to be the way it was, but now it seems whenever a difficulty arises, no matter how small, people scramble to the nearest government agency for help. After that they then go looking for the sleaziest lawyer to sue someone. We have become a nation of sheep.

ServoT, I don’t know your age but there hopefully will come a time that you realize some truths. One of those being that some people exhibit behavior that is so bad that nothing but a good old fashion a$$ whipping will set the offender straight. It is thinking like yours that has almost completely destroyed the foundation of our society. What would you rather do? Put the idiot in jail where he can soak up your neighbor’s taxes? Give him a stern reprimand and tell him he was a bad bad boy while he laughs in your face? Why bring shame and unwanted notoriety by letting this kind of thing get out? What is wrong with a community that takes the guy outside, teaches him the error of his ways and that be the end of it? I heard once that an armed community is a polite community. I would imagine the same effect holds true if you know your community will not tolerate such shenanigans and that justice will be served swiftly.

I recall an incident which took place down in old Mexico…
I guess it’s been 15-20 years ago now.

In some small remote village this slug was on trial for murdering kids…
      to sell their body parts.

When the villagers found out the judge had declared the puke innocent…
the villagers chased him down & killed him anyway…

Then they dragged the judge out & killed him.

They should throw the book at him. Some months ago I was riding my motorcycle on the 15 freeway in the late evening when from the countryside a laser hit the face shield of my helmet and lit it up like a street light. I was nearly blind for a few seconds but was able to safely pull over. If there had been heavy traffic or something in the roadway, I would have had a major problem. But to prove there is justice in the world, a CHP was behind me at the time, saw the incident and was able to arrest the person and charge him with a felony. It was plead out with a $10,000 fine and 2000 hours of community service. I thought it should have been attempted murder, but at least he got something. Suppose the goalie had been injured or the optical nerve affected by this idiotic action?

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. (Romans 10:9-11 KJV)

Christ said there is a happiness in that acknowledgment of spiritual poverty which lets God come into our souls. Now, the Bible teaches that our souls have a disease. It causes all the troubles and difficulties in the world. It causes all the troubles, confusions, and disillusionments in your own life. The name of the disease is an ugly word. We don’t like to use it. It is “sin.” All of us have pride. We do not like to confess that we are wrong or that we have failed. But God says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” We have failed to live up to the divine standard. We must confess our sin as the first step to happiness, peace, and contentment.

Pride kept me so long from acknowledging my need of You, Lord. Each day, help me to realize I am nothing without You.

Actually, this post is precisely on point! People apparently don’t understand forgiveness at all anymore.

Therest of the post here sound like “Yeah, take him to the parking lot and beat him… wait, let’s string him up!”

In my personal understanding of Christianity, forgiveness and the biblical passage above are the fundamental basis of Christ’s teachings. SO, I think I’ll side with Poverty.Sucks here.

Afterall, don’t we have just a few, more important people/events to worry about these days?

Depends on the type of laser. Only Type 1 can be sold in the US. If the guy bought it online, it could potentially be the kind that causes permanent damage; in which case, I’d say yes. Otherwise, probably not.
