Daily Beast Sources: Pakistan’s Intelligence Chief Expected to Resign

The head of Pakistan’s notorious intelligence service, the Inter-Service Intelligence agency, is expected to resign as fallout to the U.S.‘s raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound.
The Daily Beast reports:
To allay both domestic and international anger and dismay over the presence of Osama bin Laden in a military cantonment town close to the capital, senior Pakistani officials have told The Daily Beast they recognize that an important head has to roll and soon. They say the most likely candidate to be the fall guy is Lt. Gen. Ahmad Shuja Pasha, the director general of the country’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence directorate. These high-level sources, who refused to be quoted or named, say that it’s nearly a done deal. Savvy Pakistani analysts who have close connections to the military agree. “It would make a lot of sense,” says retired Pakistani Lt. Gen. Talat Masood. “It’s in his (Pasha’s) personal and the national interest to take the heat off.”
The heat has been fierce. Whether they supported or loathed bin Laden, Pakistanis across the board are furious that the ISI and the powerful military, which control national security policy, could have been so incompetent not to know that the al Qaeda leader was comfortably holed up in Abbottabad, only 80 miles north of the capital. “Never before have the military and the ISI come under such criticism,” Masood says. People are also angry, if not embarrassed, that the military, which eats the lion’s share of the national budget and is seen as the country’s protector from invading forces, particularly neighboring India, could be totally unaware that American helicopters had violated Pakistani airspace.

Posted on May 6, 2011 at 2:18pmAnd, the American forces did what? They entered your space, killed a terroist who has killed more Arabs and Muslims than Americans, and left without destroying or killing any innocent Pakistani.
Report Post »bin Laden’s followers know only death, and the Pakistani people mean nothing to them.
So, along with killing your worst enemy, the American people will also pray for each and every one of the Pakistanis…because they are so focused on being angry with America that they don’t realize they are about to become true slaves to Iran. To Iran’s leaders, they simply don’t need Pakistan or Egypt or India or Lybia or Yemmen. They bellieve that they have all the answers and that Allah will somehow approve of their murderous actions. Yes, Middle Eastern countries, America is praying for your welfare because Americans are the only ones who wish you no harm. It is the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and AlQuieda who will kill all of you…just for the fun of it. Wake up, people! More importantly…be safe.

Going to be very interesting when we stop “didgitizing” our debt this summer.

Posted on May 6, 2011 at 1:42pmEnough is enough. Pakistan is NOT our friend nor is it our ally! Write, email our call your congress men and women and demand that all aid be cut off and get our troops out of the Mideast immediately. We have money to waste on terrorist sympathetic Mideast countries like Pakistan, Libya, Egypt, Iran, Afghanistan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Oman and more so how about spending the money on the infrastructure of our own country.

Posted on May 6, 2011 at 1:03pmWell someone has to be the fall guy….. Pretty typical for all governments though. Many in the Pakistani government knew Osama was held up there and if you believe otherwise you’re a complete idiot. It’s well known that are relationship with Pakistan is to keep your enemy closest sort of thing, we know that, they know that and the level of openness between us is based on that fact.
As for the 1.5 billion a year in aid I would reduce it (by half) but not all together stop the aid. It’s an evil dance with these feces eating dogs but a dance that is in our best interest strategically and economically.
It’s been known for decades that Pakistan has been selling nuclear technology to N Korea, Iran, Libya and any other interested party with enough money. Pakistan has been and will be the safest haven for the Taliban and Al Qaida.

Report Post »Awakened One
Posted on May 6, 2011 at 11:58amIt may be time to come home anyway. Wasn’t the primary reason to go into Afghanistan to get Bin Ladin? Now he’s dead and someone will surely take his place. But even if we kill ‘next up’ there will always be another. Consider also that there are lots of countries where terrorists can create training camps, so stopping them in one country will not solve the problem. This is an opportunity to leave with honor and ‘Mission Accomplished’. Let’s face it, whenever we leave the Taliban is coming back anyway. Let’s do what makes sense here.

Posted on May 6, 2011 at 3:13pmI second that A.O. What a perfect time! Bring them home like Glenn suggests and give them some good long R&R so that when the world convulses its self apart ‘soon’ we’ll be ready to go! Millions were killed in WWII, but we’ve learned to count much higher in the last 70 years. It will be billions in WWIII… Oh, I can hardly contain my anticipation.
But of course Barry will have none of that. That would take some pressure off and give the US a break and ruin all his plans… Gotta keep squeezing US from ALL directions at once, don’t you know. He’s not going to like the end result though.

But you cannot make me belive that there wasn’t someone high enough up the food chain with the horsepower to unsure that no one was able to question or reveal the fact that O/UBL was in residence at the villa. We have always known that the Paki’s have been playing on both sides of the street, pretending to help as long as we gave them billions of dollars to buy their pretty toys and homes. We claim that it is because we don’t want their nukes to fall into the wrong hands etc. BULL PUCKEY–What is the fear of nukes?? They are nothing but darn big explosives. This is not the USSR with thousands of warheads AND the means to deliver large numbers of them at the same time. Let us take a deep breath and think here for a minute–While I will grant you it will be darn unpleasant for those in the immediate vicinity of the explosion does anyone here think that with one or two or even three or four of the weapons that the Paki’s have that our country could be brought to its knees??? Are we that weak and fragile?? And what if they were to detonate one?? As much as I detest our current C-in-C I do belive that detonating a nuke on our soil would bring immediate and very unpleasant results to the perp and would probably see a large reduction of the world’s poulation of Muslims. As the lady said in the song Que Sera Sera…Just sayin’

@ POVERTY….Great line.
There is no friendship between nations. There are only converging and diverging interests. Hence, two of the most efficacious spy networks in the US are the Mossad, and the old KGB. Anyone who thinks other nations are our friends are sophomoric at best. Deal with that reality and you can have an efficacious State Department. We haven’t had one since Nixon was President. Too many Koombaya’ers coming out of American Colleges today. As far as who-sists of Pakistan getting the axe, my only regret is that it is metaphorical instead of reality.
