Dalai Lama to Chinese Students: ‘I’m a Marxist’

In speaking to a group of students in Minnesota last week, the Dalai Lama cleared up any uncertainty regarding his political views. “…As far as socio-political beliefs are concerned, I consider myself a Marxist,” he told the audience.
According to Religion Dispatches, one student questioned this statement, asking if this view of the world contradict the Dalai Lama’s philosophy:
The Tibetan leader answered that the Marx was not against religion or religious philosophy per se but against religious institutions that were allied, during Marx’s time, with the European ruling class.
Interestingly, the Chinese government as it currently stands is dominated partially by Karl Marx’s theoretical constructs. This isn’t the first time the Dalai Lama has professed his belief in Marxism. Below, watch a video of the spiritual leader discuss a variety of issues pertaining to China, his political views, and the like:

He stated that religion relieved the pain of the people temporarily in that statement. Lenin and Stalin deviated that into another thought.

Report Post »The leaders of the U.S., Canada and Mexico have been working to create a borderless North America, similar to the European Union, since at least 2005.Talk of efforts to create a North American Union has been derided by the elite — politicians, talking heads and the mainstream media — as conspiracy-theory nuttery. But a leaked United States diplomatic cable proves the leaders of the U.S., Canada and Mexico have been working to create a borderless North America, similar to the European Union, since at least 2005.
The cable, leaked by WikiLeaks and reported on by the Canadian National Post, said: “An incremental and pragmatic package of tasks for a new North American Initiative (NAI) will likely gain the most support among Canadian policymakers. The economic payoff of the prospective North American initiative … is available, but its size and timing are unpredictable, so it should not be oversold.”
In the cable, U.S. diplomats focused on a number of key areas to move forward with continental integration, including a possible common currency, labor markets, international trade and the borders of the three countries, according to the article.

Conservatives are “better” precisely because we don’t need to eradicate people to defeat ideas, unlike the political Left.
I think the Dalai Lama is misguided, but as an individual and human being he is a force for good. We can debate the merits of social policy with men like him. We don’t need to go to the gutter simply because he deserves better than that. He’s earned better treatment than that.

Ever heard of fascists, or the military dictatorships we supported all over the world during the Cold War specifically BECAUSE democratic elections would have given power to Leftists? Know your history before you open your mouth–those who misguidedly fought for the Right have as much blood on their hands as those who have misguidedly fought for the Left. Both sides are susceptible to this danger–the day you think you are immune is the day you become the monster you think you are safe from.

Posted on June 10, 2011 at 12:12pm“During my first press conference as President, in answer to a direct question, I pointed out that, as good Marxist-Leninists, the Soviet leaders have openly and publicly declared that the only morality they recognize is that which will further their cause, which is world revolution. I think I should point out I was only quoting Lenin, their guiding spirit, who said in 1920 that they repudiate all morality that proceeds from supernatural ideas — that’s their name for religion — or ideas that are outside class conceptions. Morality is entirely subordinate to the interests of class war. And everything is moral that is necessary for the annihilation of the old, exploiting social order and for uniting the proletariat.
Well, I think the refusal of many influential people to accept this elementary fact of Soviet doctrine illustrates a historical reluctance to see totalitarian powers for what they are. We saw this phenomenon in the 1930s. We see it too often today.”

Marx was antireligion-period. It wasn’t about being against European religion only, the whole Marxist philosophy requires that you abandon religion and accept the concepts he and Angels set forth as “truth”. Read the Naked Communist. The first few chapters talk about Marxism and the kind of bum that Marx really was.

Um, no. Marxism is more of a general philosophy than an economic/political system. The Lama here seems primarily to suggest that he views society based on various heirarchical class lines, not necessarily that he believes in the autocratic PRC government, which has chosen state control over the means of production (not all of them, obviously, as China has vastly widened it’s private sector in the past 20 or so years) as opposed to direct worker control.

His dream of a worker’s paradise is a new coat of varnish on the same disaster of an idea that has haunted humanity throughout its history. Breaking down the aristocracy and replacing it with the proletariat sounds noble, but it is a system that has to be built on the foundation of an all powerful government, there is no other feasible way for it to function. And while monetary equality may sound good, where does it lead to except for stagnation? If I have no incentive to work better than because it is for the good of the community, then why should I care? At the end of the day it is simply the modern take on “give me thy glory and I promise not one soul shall be lost”.
