‘Dancing With the Stars’ Champ Arrested for DUI, Says He Was Not ‘Impaired’

Hines Ward, Super Bowl most valuable player and “Dancing With the Stars” champion, said he was not under the influence of alcohol despite his arrest on a drunk driving charge near Atlanta Saturday.

TMZ was among the first to report Ward’s arrest, saying he failed a field sobriety test and refused a breathalyzer after drifting in his lane and hitting a curb. He was released on bond.

In a statement through his manager, the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver denied being impaired by alcohol and apologized to his fans:

On July 9th Hines Ward was stopped by Dekalb Co. police for suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence. He cooperated fully with the police and truthfully answered all of their questions. We are currently in the process of ascertaining all the facts.

From our preliminary investigation we can tell you that we are confident that the facts will show that Hines was NOT impaired by alcohol while driving. However, Hines is deeply saddened by this incident and apologizes to his fans and the Steelers organization for this distraction.

If you cannot keep your vehicle off the curb, you may not be drunk, but you are ‘impaired’ in some way…. maybe texting, maybe talking on a cellphone … they are all equally dangerous.
I‘m just glad I wasn’t changing a tire when he drove by.

You should never drive even if you have had just one drink.

It’s your call, but the price is heavy!

    Good Luck!

I recommend, call a cab, call someone to drive you home, but don’t drive if you have been drinking.

Isnt it time for the society to realize that more people are killed by texting and talking on cell phones than drunk drivers and to swap the penalties to fit the crimes?

The Steelers are the Official NFL Team of Obama and the Democratic Party. The Bears are the #2 Democrat Obama Team. They kissed Obama keister during the Presidential election. A Steeler could kill kids in front of 50 witnesses and get off. Especially a black one.

Funny, Hines seems to keep his mouth shut on today’s issues, tries to keep a low profile, and when the crap hit the fan, he is spoken about like Dennis Rodman. This could have happened to most of us at one time in our lives, but as times have changed, there is no tolerance today.

I used to be an idiot, and drove plenty of times when I shouldn’t. Now I just can’t believe I was that stupid. I would always justify it while doing it, and say I was never “drunk” although, I knew if I tested, I’d be way above legal limit. I am glad no one was there when he drifted and popped a curb, but this idiot should be serving some time in community service and speaking with families who lost someone to somebody “not drunk”. I hope this is his “ah-ha” moment, and his first and last time.

I agree with Beansoup and Sissykatz, I’ll wait to see the final outcome before I jump to conclusions. Hines is a pretty straight up guy and they said his passenger was sober and able to drive the car away. Why would two people be out, one get drunk and the other not, and the drunk one drive. Doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe they’re just looking for attention and/ or money.
