Dash Cam Catches TX Man Firing Shotgun at Officer’s Face

A police officer in Conroe, TX lost his eye after a man opened fire on the officer with a shotgun. The cop’s dash cam caught the whole incident:

KZTV reports:

Surveillance video was released Wednesday of a shooting involving a Conroe, Texas police officer. Sgt. James Kelemen responded to a call at Flower’s Baking Co. in Conroe at 4 p.m. Saturday because a man was threatening an employee with a shotgun. Kelemen was shot in the face by James Richard Hill, 54, according to prosecutors. Officers returned fire at Hill and he died at the scene.

Dashcam video showed Hill carrying a shotgun run to a pillar outside the bakery. Standing next to the pillar, the gunman pointed the weapon at Kelemen, who was taking cover behind his patrol car, investigators said. On the video, you can hear the sergeant repeatedly tell Hill to drop his weapon. “Put the gun down, man, put it down. What’s going on?” Kelemen said on the dashcam video. “We can talk about this, but put it down. Just put the gun down, man.”

    Makes me wonder if some of you actually read these articles or just start posting. The article reads, and I quote, “officers returned fire at Hill, and he died at the scene.”. So many posts here hoping he’ll go to prison, etc, etc, etc. He’s dead, gone, never to hurt anyone again. Prayers for the injured officer for a speedy recovery.

    I respect the police officer and absolutely do not understand nutcases like this that are allowed on the streets. Let me guess, just like the case of the Tucson shooter, VIDEO PROOF of him committing a crime isn’t enough to just lock them up and throw away the key. There shouldn’t even be a question of this guys guilt and yes, he is a nutball, but he is a nutball that broke the law and that should NOT be a defense.

    While we applaud that justice be served upon evil with vigilance and manly conviction, might I humbly inquire the thoughts of the patriots whose words surely adorn these pages: what would be your conviction if violence was the answer by law enforcement to uphold the laws that violate the documents used to outline the creation of such laws, as violence would most assuredly be used to quell violence spurred by the will to return this country to its original foundation, for which violence was used to obtain?

      You interpretmy meaning almost completely; a full understanding would be retorted with a statement of willingness or not, to employ the same means necessary to procure our freedoms, in order to ensure its maintenance if necessary, and if so, are those that would take such action prepared for the inevitable reality that this may induce conflict with authority at federal, state, and local levels, whose oath swears to uphold the laws of the land, and the unlawful laws of the land, and whose stature does not permit them to make the distinction between two, as the unlawful laws are still law, and also require “enforcement?”

    Good thing it was just buckshot and not a 12 gauge slug. Losing a eye would not be all that he would have to worry about. And it being Texas if the shooter was not killed on location he would of in short order by the needle.

      No way that was buckshot. At that distance the buckshot would have penetrated his brain housing unit and he would be a TOSA candidate. 00 Buckshot’s MER is about 50 yds. It looks like #6 shot, judging by the size of the holes. Prob not birdshot (#71/2 – #9), more holes and smaller.

      You are right in thinking it was good it wasn’t a slug tho. He wouldn’t even be an organ donor if he got canoed by some 12 G slug sabot.

    Hey Blaze… what kind of coverage is that? Fox failed to mention who the shooter was, what he was apprehended for, what he got charged with, etc. Either fill in the facts or don’t link the story. Otherwise this is a glorified YouTube linking sensational video. We’ve seen you do it with other stories by linking or quoting other sources to fill in the picture. So we know you can do it.

      The Blaze has always been about readers doing their own research to verify fact from fiction, and to fill in their own blanks. Certainly you don’t come to the Blaze, or listen to FNC or read Fox web site, for ALL your news. Hopefully you have the fortitude and sense to do your own reasearch, wether it be about current events or the Bible, to make informed decisions. I would hope, if you have not done so already, that you would want to be fully informed. Fox has always claimed to be “fair and balanced”. They never claimed to be complete. Niether has the Blaze or Glenn Beck. If you want completness do some homework.

When Jacka$$ tried to explain to the officer about his plight, was misunderstood due to his poor childhood and the Republicans lack of funding the public school system, ans was shot and killed. The ACLU and DOJ will be investigating the entire police department and the way law enforcement respond to incidents involving anyone who is receiving any form of government assistance to ensure there is enough sensitivity training being received by law enforcement. Firearms safety rule #4: Know your target and what is beyond.

      This soon to be felon’s back was to strip mall windows. The officer did right in not firing immediately; because, it is likely had his round passed through this man, that an innocent may have been injured or killed. This officer should have been wearing safety glasses and should have taken better cover behind his vehicle. He would have saved his eye. In this case, hindsight = ceramic eye.

      @mike… Don’t forget, the GUN didn’t put the officers eye out… the idiot who loaded the gun, aimed the gun, and pulled the gun’s trigger did it and if the idiot was shot (which would be just) it was the officer who loaded his gun, aimed his gun and pulled the trigger who meted out that justice, not the officers gun.

      Left wing, anit-gun nut jobs try to blame inanimate objects for actions they are incapable of carrying out.

      Guns don’t kill any more than knives or baseball bats or fists.

      John Stossel of 20/20 did a great pieces on gun control and it’s monolithic failure…even the governments own Center For Disease Control did a study on gun control and found that gun control INCREASES violent crime and where ever there is freedom to carry guns, there is LESS violent crime.

      It was a great piece of reporting… but liberal left wing- anti-gun nut jobs don’t care about reason…they just want Mommy (The State) to take care of them and have the guns… that is until Mommy is upset with them… then they find conservatism.

      @One of Many

      I remember BHO saying something along the lines of if they brings knives to a fight we are going to bring guns. I really don’t here many claiming that knives kill people as most people use a knife every day to prepare their food that could easily kill someone. But because all the people use knives every day they understand the natural relationship here. The simple fact is that there are about 30-40k car accident deaths a year and only about 10k gun deaths. The vast majority of those are crime related. So yes, it is the person and not the gun. Do you hear people (other than greenies) calling for the control and abolition of cars? No for the same reason that the same understanding exists with knives.

      Here is a good video about gun rights from Bill Whittle to pass and share with others:

      @ Revere1…also add in the fact that, for a myriad of reasons, police can no longer police in a way that is truly effective. It‘s partly the fault of restrictive laws and actions caused by those bad examples of police officers out there but it’s mostly the fault of an obsessively politically correct environment that has police officers afraid to breathe, much less do their jobs. I pray for a full recovery of the officer, and a swift one as well.

      @Mike Westfall; If you have a concealed carry permit no check is needed. Also, if you have waited until now to arm yourself, you have missed the boat.

      If somebody is pointing a gun at me, and I have a gun, I am firing it, not talking.

      Is this standard operating procedure for an officer to wait until the perp shoots him in the face?

      I am glad the officer survived and I am glad the perp is dead. Dont need people like that in the gene pool. Hope he didnt have any kids.

      @JD Carp

      Thanks for the comment. I do have a CCW in application and I do have my guns at the ready. Most people don‘t have a CCW so this exception doesn’t apply and I was only trying to point this out. On a personal note it’s a bit weird since I never really grew up around guns at all in CA and never understood the importance they have in my life and others. Its a real fun hobby in the least and best case scenario. I guess you could say that I was indoctrinated by the left out there that I didn’t need to own. Whereas I never thought guns were bad. Now that I live in MI its odd how quickly a perspective changes getting out the big city.

      @the_zazzy

      I didn’t see anything that would indicate the officer is affiliated with the Tea Party.

      @Sam Brown

      I like the way you think:) cop gets shot, government shutting down and you are worried about if you can buy guns this weekend:) I am one hundred percent pro gun and pro cops just not what I was thinking but there are no gun shows near me this weekend:) or I might have went there as well:)

      Mike Westfall No Hiding, in Texas they don’t have to call if you have a valid Concealed-Carry License. It certainly speeds up the buying process.

      Maybe the_zazzy should watch the news more. The violence is coming from the left and the unions. the_zazzy should provide proof before condemning a group people who simply think they are Taxed Enough Already and do not condone offensive violence.

      Actually .. NOT TRUE…. A Gun dealer.. must call.. TRUE… however if they do not recieve a response they must wait 3 days. After that they can sell the gun. It doesnt matter if the BATFE, or FBI responds or not……..

      No big deal, plenty of gun shows and private sellers.

      After the first “put down your weapon” (if then) the rest was too much conversation. Better, less politically correct, conversation:
      “Freeze, Sir!
      BANG!”
      Dispatch, call EMS to my location.”
      Dispatch: cancel the EMS. Send the ME.
