Dating Website for Beautiful People Axes 30,000 Members for Being Too Ugly

A dating website that claims to be an exclusive meeting place for only “beautiful people” is unapologetic today after it dumped 30,000 members for being too ugly.

Foxnews.com explains the site Beautifulpeople.com, which calls itself “an exclusively beautiful community,” was recently the victim of a virus that affected the way the site’s screening process works. That allowed for a slew of new members that wouldn’t normally be accepted. 30,000 of them.

See, the group accepts new members based on a voting system. “Members rate new applicants over a 48 hour period based on whether or not they find the applicant ‘beautiful,’” the site explains. “Should applicants secure enough positive votes from members, they will be granted membership to the BeautifulPeople community.”

When the site reviewed the new members and found them wanting, it gave them the ax.

“We have to stick to our founding principles of only accepting beautiful people — that’s what our members have paid for,” BeautifulPeople.com’s Greg Hodge told The Guardian. “We can’t just sweep 30,000 ugly people under the carpet.”

The site has paid out $112,500 in refunds to 4,500 of the 30,000 who had paid a $25-a-month membership fee. The rest were still within the free trial period

“We got suspicious when tens of thousands of new members were accepted over a six-week period, many of whom were no oil painting,” Hodge told the Guardian.

Apparently, however, this isn’t the first time the site has had to purge its membership in the name of standards. Last year, it dumped about 5,000 members after they appeared to gain weight during the Christmas holiday.

Hodge said investigators believe the virus was planted by a disgruntled former employee. He also said the site is offering counseling for those who have been rejected.

      maybe, but the thesis of their business was to be a site only populated by the beautiful. It’s their right to stick true to that, even their duty to their clients to do so.

    who decides who is beautiful are not, because the six people in the picture are butt ugly, if that is what they call beautiful, then maybe the people they dropped really should not worry, they are probably jealous they don’t look as good so they dropped them.

    The only reason my kids turned out OK was the looks of my wife. I can’t imagine genetically what would of happened if I had married & produced children, with a wife, at my level of ugliness. Seriously I shouldn’t have been allowed to breed. Good thing my wife’s eyesight was always bad.

    I am a firm believer that beauty is skin deep but personality and what is in the heart is forever. It sounds like this dating site is something to be leary of and is probably run by very shallow people.

The site name says it all….if you’re not “physically beautiful” – don’t waste our time. And only shallow & arrogant people would believe physical appearance is the most important thing.

      When we lived outside the country, the trick there was for the females always to complain about their husbands, never to say anything complimentary about them in front of others so that all other females would think, “Gee, poor ___________.       With this article about the sight, I honestly do not know wheather to laugh or shake my head in disgust; one more great example of capitalism at its best…and no one can hold a candle to it in claiming it is discrimatory – the sights members make the choice via voting wheather new members stay or not on the sight.

      At least one thing I do not need to worry about with the sight is the fact of – in not going to it, or trying to join it, I will not need to worry about being rejected by it. I wonder if any of the Senate have been rejected from the sight, they said Pelosi and Napoletano were screaming with rage the other day…hmm…

      Maybe one of my cat girls in my gallery would have a better chance of making it into the sight; they are not even real, but then again, neither are a lot of people in these dating sights (my opinion).

      We all die ugly. You’re better off marrying someone you love a whole lot, that makes you laugh, because in short order, you and your wife will be butt ugly.

      Having been butt ugly my whole life, it hasn’t been a worry for me, and my wife is as “hot” to me today as she was the first moment I saw her. Making her belly laugh at me at least once a day has been my goal since we were married. So far, I’m batting 1000. One look at me and she busts up, and I don’t care how silly I have to be – one belly laugh (usually 100) a day…. it’s like beer goggles for women.

      They SHOULD be allowed to do that if they choose to. They are a private business. Is it a good idea?       I don’t join anything, just to be liked. I hated fraternities, in college. Paying a fraternity, just to be liked.
      I had friends who did it. I won’t join any “club” just to go along with the flow or to be liked. I don’t care what someone thinks about me, if I don’t know them. The “beautiful people” can take their club and shove it.

      Ugly by whose standards, and beautiful by whose standards? A very sad commentary. On Extreme Makeover there were two contestants who met, fell in love, married and had a child. Neither one looked like they did when they came on the show. So are they going to have a child’s makeover as their young child will obviously have the characteristics of their former selves. People are beautiful from the inside out, not the outside in.
