David Letterman Confronts Bill O’Reilly: ‘Why Doesn’t the Current President Get More Credit for Everything He’s Accomplished?’

On Wednesday evening, Fox News‘ Bill O’Reilly appeared on “Late Night with David Letterman,” where he discussed Osama bin Laden, Vice President Dick Cheney, the current political schema and plenty more. As could be expected, O’Reilly and host David Letterman disagreed on a number of fronts.

The segment launched with a discussion about Cheney and the Bush administration’s handling of the search for Osama bin Laden. While O‘Reilly claimed that he doesn’t know the former vice-president well enough to have a solid opinion about him, Letterman seemed a bit more negative about the politician. It didn’t take long for the discussion to move to the economy.

Here‘s a brief clip that shows a portion of O’Reilly’s appearance:

Mediaite recaps the dialogue (and disagreement) that unfolded between the divergent parties, specifically when it comes to economic issues:

When the topic turned to this year’s presidential election, Letterman proposed that “you don’t change horses when a guy is fighting to improve the economy.” O’Reilly disagreed, saying, “That doesn’t work … because people are scared and scared voters usually go against the incumbent.”

Letterman replied, “I don’t know. I would be scared to turn it over to a new administration.” O’Reilly said he wouldn’t be scared to do so; he just wants the “best man for the times.”

As the two spoke, Letterman unleashed the true question that was likely at the back of his mind throughout the debate — “Why doesn‘t the current president get more credit for everything he’s accomplished?” Mediaite continues, highlighting O‘Reilly’s response:

O’Reilly conceded that he thinks the president has done a very good job on foreign policy, but “he has botched the economy.”

Letterman disagreed with that, calling it “rhetoric,” but O’Reilly asserted, “I base my stuff on facts. You know I’m not an ideologue. I don’t care about party. I don’t care about party at all.”

The two, of course, ended their disagreement on a positive note, as they choose to “fist-bump” over their differences. You can watch the entire segment over at Mediaite.

O’Reilly is no more than a suck-up lib. He should just move his show over to MSNBC where it belongs. His favorite line is “I’ll give you the last word,” however, that’s only after he has taken up 90% of the interview time with his own BS commentary. Sorry Bill, your guest’s last word is usually their only word. As for the rapist sitting behind the desk who goes by the name Letterman, no lower form of life on the planet.

GSPLGTR LOL! You are absolutely correct. This is an interview of an irrelevant has-been by an irrelevant has-been. Even Fox has jumped the shark, putting trying to be pleasing to all above speaking truth. O’Reilly, what the heck do you think is good about allowing the world to explode into fundamentalist Islam, offending all our allies, emboldening some of the worst dictators of the world and even BOWING to our ENEMIES?

I get especially sick when he interviews Glenn Beck and tries to make Beck look like a conspiracy idiot… We see the actual video of the things people have said and O’Reilly laughs it off. But then Beck just sits there like a giggling idiot and takes the “rebuke”. And I‘ve never seen what the comedy is with O’Reilly and Miller… If it’s no better than what I see on the show, I sure wouldn’t waste time and money to go see them in performance.

Jane, Rev. 3:16 is talking about your passion for the church. If a Christian doesn’t take his faith seriously “it would be better to have not been born”.

Speaking of Christians, we should be working in our congregations more. Don’t worry about the politics of your fellow congregant. The people you should be worried about are the leaders. The leaders should be worried about teaching the Bible correctly not about how someone votes. If you teach the Bible where people squirm in their pew (and provided they stay) they will vote the way God wants them to. I have faith God will prevail (I read ahead, lol). It may not be in our lifetime but He will be the victor!

He deserves credit for blaming everyone and everything under the sun for his failures. He deserves credit for screwing the lives of many Americans with his policies. He deserves credit for allowing the Muslim Brotherhood to infiltrate our government at high levels. He deserves credit for a lot of things. I agree…..we should all give the President the credit that he is due.

I was kinda ticked off by O’Reilly recently. He was interviewing the attorney for Trayvon Martin‘s family expounding how the media and everyone else was rushing to a conclusion on Gearge Zimmerman’s guilt before the trial even started. Then, at the end of the piece, he tells viewers to go to a poll and vote if George Zimmerman will be found guilty or not. Isn‘t this telling viewers to jump to a conclusion on the Zimmerman’s guilt before the trial? Seems hypocritical to me.

Criticism of O’Reilly comes from both sides of the issues. Some think he leans left, (ridiculous assertion), and others thing he leans totally right, (another ridiculous assertion). The guy asks questions that need to be asked and he challenges things that previously were never challenged, at least in front of millions of viewers.

      JACK_REACHER,
O’Reilly has become now nothing more than a media strumpet; that he always claims to “be looking out for you” is really only looking out for himself (ratings/hawking books/appearances). That he can’t let a email segment go without patting himself on the back hawking another of his books. And spare me his philanthropy as it is all done for promotion of himself.
That he decided to sell out truth and clarity shortly after the 2008 election and decide to take a more defined “center of the fence sitter” position on every single issue is quite sickening. His on-air (his last Radio Factor airing) attack on conservatives after the ‘08 elections was contemptible. That he he feels the need to blame both side perfectly equal regardless if one side owns it entirely (as he did this during the Pelosi rule (2008-2010); that this fools his fans into believing he is “fair” with an aura of phony “instrospection” while arrogantly bashing anybody that claims different as an “ideologue”.
His fake ire against liberal detractors like Letterman and Michael Moore is scripted and contrived as what he does on-air a much different picture as he breaks bread with these same liberals at all the Upper West side Manhatten dinner parties he often attends.
Bill O’Reilly is indeed a Ted Baxter. The man is a fake.

A real unemployment rate knocking on 1 in 5.
Truly monumental debt that even Croesus couldn’t repay.
Ensuring the destruction of the American Automobile industry (Except for Ford, who didn’t swallow the hook)

That was a good point, Gonzo. One has to remember, O’Reilly was invited to be a guest on Letterman
(whoever he is), and as such, should ”play nice” if he intends to be on the show again. He goes into
the ”lion’s den”, so to speak, whenever he’s on The View so, for the most part, also plays nice. His
remark about the president’s foreign policy may simply mean that we have had no further attacks in our

O’Reilly is nowhere near a conservative. He is fairly liberal and naive. If you‘ve read any of his books you would quckly find that if you’re a conservative, you disagree with him more than you agree with him. He’s pro gun control, against the death penalty, wishy-washy on gay marriage, thinks the government should have more control over people’s lives to protect the “children”. He wants price controls on certain commodities.

He’s pro-life and likes Christmas. That’s about as conservative as he gets.

Bill hinted awhile back about retirement so he is a ‘49er and maybe looking forward to relaxing & write more books & be on the media circuit. I like Bill and his humor. He has his own beliefs and I respect that in him..he does not back down on his core beliefs…as it should be with all of us. Sometimes there is some “gray-area” and I have come to a conclusion about a matter and then down the road, many times Bill “sorta-submits” to another point of view. He does it in such a CHARMING WAY. I am laughing now…I just like his personality and he reminds me of many people that have been in my life and have had some spirited debates with these people. I don’t care for “lukewarm” personalities & Bill IS NOT lukewarm. If Bill retires I agree…Laura Ingram would get my 100% vote as a replacement. I don’t know much about Jesse Watters but he could co-anchor more because he would “draw-in” a younger audience. Jesse is “new-blood” for Fox and would be a big + for ratings bringing in more young conservatives that need a voice about the future of America. Jesse could easily interview, say a OWS, and would do well because of his youth, but “very-likeable“ BUT ”nerves-of-steel”.
Note: Thank you America for voting for Donald, DWTS and Philip (A.Idol)…Aeosmith ROCKED(Steve Tyler) and the guitar was “music to my ears”. Both shows A+. Great entertainment!!! Rock-On!!!

What we need to be doing is getting competely right with Jesus..and let Him be formed in us..It is terrible to die..but can you imagine that death will take a permanent holiday and that one would experience continual dying? Or perhaps helping Egypt open the gate for Muslim Brotherhood to become a force to be reckoned with? I suppose Bill has to save face and preserve his reputation as a media man, but really…trying to make good with Letterman is pointless. Wish O’Reilly would finally denounce MSM and join forces with Beck.

The muslim brotherhood is a noble civil rights movement which was there for the people when western colonialist powers propped up dictators for our cold war or financial[cheap oil ] interests. You can demonize them all you want but they survive and deserve a place in a free mid east. You’re the brainwashed tyranical gulls who believe arabs should live under dictators. You’re spoon fed propaganda by the genocidists[right wing zionists who run Fox] The true conservatives get thrown off the air as you see.But one and all they spew genocidal anti arab propaganda-a requisite to be in the zionist run media. Not surprising you’re silent about the syrian people rising up against assad-the zionists want him in power cause the last thing zionists want are free arabs.if you cared about american values and human rights you’d be clamoring for intervention to topple assad-like you did in iraq. But you are silent cause it was never about freeing arabs from oppression but the opposite-keeping them subjugated to then assert that israel deserves support cause it is the only democracy.Hypocrites-osama understood you and he was a freedom fighter.

That’s quite an oxymoron considering the Paulbot cult is working day and night to help 0bama get reelected.

Funny… a lot of people call O’Reilly a blow hard (me included sometimes), but he has Ron Paul pretty much pegged as a Neville Chamberlain and a complete buffoon on his progressive foreign policy ideas (left of even Obama).

Paul whined that the big bad Bill is a meany who won‘t let him drift into the atmosphere with his rambling and thus wouldn’t reappear to do any more interviews with big bad Bill O’Reilly.
