DC Comics Relaunches the Original Green Lantern as a Gay Superhero

Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern, is being reintroduced to the DC Comics universe with one major change: He’s gay.
The big reveal officially comes Wednesday in the second issue of DC’s “Earth 2” series, which features Scott as the main superhero of a parallel world. Scott, who first appeared in a 1940 comic, is getting a new origin story as a young media mogul as part of DC’s universe-wide reboot.
DC confirmed the news about the character Friday after co-publisher Dan Dido told a convention audience in May that a heretofore straight character would be gay.
“He’s going to be the leader of the team, this dynamic hero, he’ll do anything to save people, the bravest man on the planet. Why not just make him gay as well?” writer James Robinson told USA Today.

Explaining the decision in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Robinson said the original version of Alan Scott was an older man with a super-powered son, Obsidian, who was gay.
“The fact that Scott was young now [due to the reboot] meant Obsidian no longer existed. I thought it was a shame that DC was losing such a positive gay character. I said, ‘Why not make Alan Scott gay?’ To Dan DiDio’s credit, when I suggested it to him, there wasn’t a moment’s hesitation,” he said.
Robinson told the New York Post the character’s new sexual orientation has no bearing on his heroism.
“He’s very much the character he was. He’s still the pinnacle of bravery and idealism. He’s also gay,” Robinson said.
“It’s a realistic depiction of society,” he added. “You have to move with the times.”
DC’s announcement comes shortly after Marvel Comics said it would be featuring the first gay wedding between two of its characters.
One Million Moms, an online activist group that has targeted JC Penny for its hiring of Ellen DeGeneres as a spokeswoman, took up a campaign after the initial announcement urging supporters to email DC and Marvel about the character developments.
“[U]rge them to change and cancel all plans of homosexual superhero characters immediately. Ask them to do the right thing and reverse their decision to have sexual orientation displayed to readers,” the group wrote.

We sat down and watched the green lantern movie together even though the bad guy was a bit scary for him but the boy LOVED the movie. You guys should see him running around the house with his super hero mask the joy I get from watching him is immeasurable!

I personally don’t mind characters which are gay if they started that way. I don’t like this where they have taken someone straight and on a whim of political correctness, made them gay. Please DON’T let this drive your kids away from comics. They are good normally. The regular GL is still straight.

Now when I buy my 4 grand sons comics at Hastings there will be no more action fugure comics and I will have to explain why.My sons recently took them to the movies and that is all they have been talking about. Report Post »One funny thing, DC took a heterosexual cop in Gotham City “Rene Montoya” and shoe-horned her into being a homosexual so that the Batwoman character can have a girlfriend at one point.
Marvel’s X-Men is having a homosexual wedding this month so keep that one on the “avoid” list as well. They’re using variant covers so be alert.
If you stick to the basic Detective Comics, Batman, The Dark Knight, Superman, Action Comics, Justice League…your kids can enjoy their comics free from the propagandizing of these liberal goons. Although Grant Morrison is writing Superman right now as some kind of “hero of the proliteriate”. He’s usually a great writer though.
Batman right now is being written by an amazing writer named Scott Snyder and drawn by artist Greg Capullo…these guys are doing incredble stories and your kids will enjoy them. But the’re very edgy and dark. So if they’re really young use your discretion.
Be also aware..DC no longer adheres to the Comics Code which means the stories no longer have to be suitable for young audiences.
You have to remember TURKEY13, you’re dealing with artists and writers, a community notoriously populated by liberals. Some of them don’t shove their agenda in your face..some do.

I have been with my male partner for 26 yrs., have a 26 yr oldadopted son, who is in the US Army and I am a 7 yr caregiver for my paralyzed“husband”. This is not the GL that was portrayed by Ryan Reynolds,this GL is not a member of an intergalactic police force,this GL was not given his ring by a nearly dead alien.

Honestly though,DC is patting itself on the back for taking a character that has very,very,rarely been in the public eye for the last 40 years and is NOT a mainstream character and making him gay. They act as though this is a brave decision but it isn’t. Taking a character that is almost completely unknown to those outside of comics fandom (this article & many of the responses to it demonstrate that point) is not being bold;it is taking the easy approach to solving a perceived ‘problem’. Remember that this is the “New 52” version of DC,a brand new interpretation of the DC Universe where the back stories of the characters have been altered/erased just because the writers didn’t want to work very hard to tell interesting stories anymore. When the company decides to switch back to the original version of the DCU they’ll make Alan Scott straight again and none of this will have mattered.

That would entirely depend on YOUR definition of “morality” and “normality” now wouldn’t. Standards you developed when you were indoctrinated.
If you lived your how life believing Gay was normal and moral then you would take no issue with this comic. But, because you were raised believing the contrary (probably because of your bigoted, narrow minded parents), you believe it’s “immoral”, “not normal”, and therefore “indoctrination”
I was raised my entire life to be a good person and to evaluate the world as fairly as possible. So naturally I see no issue with this comic (because it is not a “doctrine” that is being evaluated uncritically, but rather much the opposite), but I do see religion as indoctrination. Not to say indoctrination is bad or good, but just objectively identifying the areas where it exists.

The word “normal” has a set definition, generally meaning that which is expected. Homosexuality is not normal from a strictly mathematical perspective; it is statistically anomalous behavior that can only be redefined as ‘normal’ if ‘normal’ no longer means “the usual or average”. Normal does not mean acceptable or tolerable.
As for morality, there has been generally a distaste for embracing homosexuality as unquestionably socially acceptable across time, religions, cultures (some very secular), races, & geography. People can recognize that gays exist, but being gay isn‘t ’normal’ in ANY culture.
I don’t believe homosexuals are evil & need to purged. They are fringe group trying to make their way thru life… like the rest of us, but they want to play house with their own sex. I can tolerate them. I really don’t give too hot, steaming craps about their private business. I also don’t accept they are somehow special and deserve to be venerated. Gays should not be entertained (being a statistical anomaly defined by behavior) as a special, protected class that is allowed to redefine terms to make them feel better. Does all that make me or any other non-homicidal person morally superior or inferior to you? Nope. Like you, were just people with opinions… not special authority.

You did and still do choose to be gay, as there is NO scientific proof that there is a “gay gene” (besides of course a “study” by a homosexual scientist) The human genome project found no such gene while mapping human DNA. On to the God fearing remark you made. If you truly fear God you would change your little lifestyle choice and follow His word. Until that day comes you and your sex partner are not Godly men.

Report Post »Outside of the Batman titles…DC has been relying on gimmicks for a while now. Most readers expect the “New 52” line to be disolved within 12 months. There’s already a plot device entered into that universe to change back to normal continuity at some point. The “New 52” was meant to be a new start for DC’s characters…most sales have fizzled since it’s inception. New titles have been put in to replace them with less than enthusiastic responses to them. What happens to the “Earth 2” line once the “New 52” phase is over is too premature to say since only one “Earth 2” title has been published so far. My guess is sales will taper off as James Robinson has been a “so-so” writer for DC. For some perspective..Robinson is very liberal in his views and tries to put them into his writing. So pushing the homosexual agenda is no surprise knowing Robinson is behind it. DiDio has given publishing space to the “It gets better” campaign of militant homosexual Dan Savage. Savage you‘ll recall is the vile and angry homosexual who disparages christians and anyone that doesn’t adhere to his homosexual fantasies. But this is acceptable to DC publishing apparently.

Much of the story revolves around him living on land surrounded by people who say things like “Hi Aquaman, are you going to talk to fish today?” Then he gets to go out and save them from some disaster and act like a hero. This is also the theme of the modern US military. It’s the mission, not the Icon!
