Deadly California Hit-and-Run Ends With Man Beaten by Mob

HAWTHORNE, Calif. (AP) — A man crossing a busy Los Angeles-area boulevard was twice struck by hit-and-run drivers, a woman who tried to help him was hit by yet another car, and the driver who tried to help her was beaten and robbed by a mob, police said Friday.

The bizarre chain of events left one man dead, another arrested and had detectives stunned.

“This one had us scratching our heads,” Capt. Mike Ishi told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s in a league of its own.”

It began when a minivan hit a man Wednesday night as he crossed Crenshaw Boulevard in a spot without a crosswalk, Hawthorne Police Lt. Gary Tomatoni said in a statement. The driver fled the scene.

The man was then run over by a second vehicle, Tomatoni said. That driver also failed to stop.

One of several people who ran to help the man and tried to stop oncoming traffic was hit by a car herself.

That driver stopped to help the woman, but he was attacked by others who had run into the street, who beat him and stole his cell phone, Tomatoni said.

The man escaped from the crowd and fled in his car, but returned after police arrived and pointed out one of his assailants.

Police arrested Tran Moore Lewis, 32, of Long Beach, on suspicion of robbery.

Detectives were amazed at the strange set of accidents and even stranger behavior.

“I’ve never seen anything like this in all my years in Hawthorne,” Ishi said.

The initial hit-and-run victim was declared dead at a hospital, police said.

The woman who was hit was taken to a hospital but her injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Their names have not been released.

Police were still looking for the gray or white minivan that first hit the man.

After talking to witnesses police were able to locate the second driver and impounded his vehicle, the statement said. Police were weighing whether to arrest that man.

I spent 46 years of my life in Cali. They do this kind of crap for sport. This is nothing! Wait till summer when it gets hot.
But I finally grew a brain and got the hell out and moved to Montana, and I’ve never regretted it. Not once.
California will never be the same as it once was, but that was a very long time ago.
Now that Jerry “Two Tokes” Brown is back, things aren’t going to get any better. Bye Bye Cali.
    I’ll pray for you.

I love Montana, we used to go there from SD when I was a kid. The bad thing TOBE, is that the ash and trash from Cali will eventually find its way there. It always does. Unfortunately there are very few places left that allow you to escape.

      This is absolutely correct.

      It’s by design.

It’s what happens when you both impoverish and dumb-down wide swaths of the population both in basic education & morality. As long as the cattle are easy to control, the high breeding rates endemic of poor, uneducated populations will take care of collateral losses from crime, etc.

It’s like the infamous KFC chicken-raising facilities that PETA (no, not the “tasty animals” PETA..that one is right up my digestion!) goes on about with little ventilation, filthy conditions, and tiny cages stacked high and wide. Sure, lots of chickens die. But by producing such large numbers at such a relatively low cost means the losses are more than acceptable.

To the Progressives, livestock is livestock whether or not the livestock has drumsticks and makes a great meal, or two legs and voting rights.

Please do not misread my comments as to say the individual who injured another person should not stop and deal with what they have done. I was only defending the logic of another as everyone commenting on anarcho’s posts were implying they were stupid because they could not comprehend them. My comments were made more on anarcho’s philosophy than the story.

Actually people were saying that they were stupid, not because they couldn’t understand them but because they were absolutely stupid statements. When his statements showed that he was taking the normal tack of the wannabe liberal progressive commies where if someone disagreed with him or thought different from him then they have made themselves the victims and thereby they deserve whatever bad treatment they get. Actually what he said sounds more like what the Spooky Guy would say and have no more compuction to help dish out the treatment to the “victims”. It makes me wonder if Anarchist is spooky dude and galt is spooky dude jr or even spooky dude with another alias to try to justify and make what anarchist(spooky dude) said.

I have to stand w/ ANARCHO. While I do believe in Christanity, Anarcho reads like Ayn Rand philosophy. In fact, I’d bet that was an influence on her/him. We have been trained for many years that to live for yourself is evil and to exist for the sake of others is nobel. To save another is honorable as long as you value that individual. If it is for fear of guilt or punishment, than you have done a nobel thing through slavery. In a nut shell, I would dive into a flooded river to save my wife, child, or best friend. I would NOT risk my life to save a criminal. Why is it selfish for me to think this way but not selfish for the criminal to expect me to risk my life to save them? Why is it selfish for me to not want to fund the healthcare of total strangers, but not selfish of them to expect I should?

do you remember the parable of the “Good Samaritan”. The Samaritan had no obligation to the injured Jew but helped him because he knew it was the right thing to do. Comparing helping someone out of the kindness of your heart, to being “forced” to help someone through mandated healthcare, welfare, and wealth redistribution (by threat of government force) are two completely different things. Don‘t get ’em twisted, that’s the progressives territory.

J-walking is defined as crossing between two signal controlled intersections. Crosswalks are either marked or unmarked and are at all intersections. It’s legal to cross the street in the middle of the block, but must yield to traffic that are approaching that may constitute a hazard. It is then the drivers responsibility to yield to any person lawfully crossing the street. On the other hand, If a mob happens to be in the road, it’s every man for himself.

I would call for an ambulance on my cell, drive to the nearest police station and report the incident and tell them why I did not stop. Wow, that is not what sounds like a place that is sane?

What I think the twisted stoner’s post at the beginning of the replies is trying to say. If California keeps voting for lefties and as people become more and more dependent on entitlements, and the entitlement mentality which now in California is wide spread, we will be seeing more of these crazy stories. There will not be enough manpower for everyone. Besides..most of them will be watching out for their familes. If people have no conscience now you can just imagine their attitude and actions when they are searching for the essentials…food, water…fuel….BE PREPARED!!

HAWTHORNE, Calif. (AP) — A man crossing a busy Los Angeles-area boulevard was twice struck by hit-and-run drivers, a woman who tried to help him was hit by yet another car, and the driver who tried to help her was beaten and robbed by an Obama voting mob, police said Friday.

Hawthorne some 30 years ago was a very nice town to live in. It all started go down hill when they rezoned housing areas to include small apts in the area. That brought in lower income family’s and crime.

your screen name is an oxy-moron. In order to be a Capitalist you need some kind of government. YOur about just as bad as the guy who says he is an anarchy communist. It doesn’t make sense. Secondly, that is what you get when you live in a state full of liberals. it reminds me about that guy who got beat up by 11 and a 12 year old in washington d.c.

Anarcho sounds kinda like Jarred Loughner..

A rambling nut job. Maybe The Blaze may want to hold on to his comment and do a little research.

Witness reliability. It’s what any person investigating the incident like the one reported will have to consider. This dude read the article and goes on a self-important word salad rant. General conclusion to be reached by most: Ignore him and move on. A chain of events reveals how impersonal and stupidly violent society can be and some people see an opportunity to, yet again, look for the CAUSE. Here’s a thought: Some folks are callow, greedy punks because they choose to be so. There’s no conspiracy or surprise here: Sometimes we see the best amongst; more often than not we see the worst amongst us. Babbling about how everyone else is too stupid to see your truth is the realm of the delusional and those who hold to logic arguments as truth.

Let me translate what Anachro is saying…

We, the people, have fallen victim to voting in a black guy to avoid some guilt that my great great grand-daddy may have bought some southern cotton run by a slavemaster. So we atone for our guilt.

It has led us to our current situation, where elitists on the left who can’t seem to pass university are somehow better than the rest because they convinced us to vote for a jackass or an elephant. Neither one is concerned about anything other than power. They have created a dependent social consciousness where we look for free handouts (parasite) or blindly sit there and take it (victim). When faced with those choices, who wants to be a victim? Instead, we choose parasite because it is just simply easier.

Meanwhile, the government is concerned about their precious power structure falling down, and are now removing rights left and right (oh ya, pun DEFINITELY intended). They are creating a mass hysteria of fear and force in order to justify the next step, mass suppression of rebellious viewpoints.
