Death Panel? Daschle Encourages ‘Other Options’ for Elderly Patients Needing Surgery

Former Senator Tom Daschle wants to “encourage” elderly patients in need of surgeries to seek “other options.”
During a recent radio interview, the former Senate Democrat admitted that if an elderly patient might need a heart transplant, that patient should be encouraged to seek options such as oral medication or “hospice.” For those unfamiliar with hospice, and as the radio host rightly points out, “hospice is where you go to die.”*
The hospice exchange starts at 2:23:
Remember, Obama nominated Daschle for health and human services secretary.
(H/T: Breitbart.tv)
*On a personal note, my mother currently runs a hospice. The “new” hospice that Daschle talks about in the interview is something she’s never seen. Hospice is end of life care — period.

Get their votes until they are too ill to cast a ballot then euthanize them reducing the burden to the state. In Nazi Germany school children were given math problems to figure the cost to the state for caring for mentally handicapped people.

Posted on December 3, 2010 at 9:46amAnyone here remember Logans Run? At 30 you were executed in the Great Uplifting, or some hogwash. There was another film later based on a similar premise but more modern day -the ‘hero’ was kinda reminescent of Jim Morrison. Lowered the voting age and put all the old folks out to pasture on LSD. Of course, ‘old’ was very subjective and very close to 30.
I think the idea is smashing! Presuming we can limit it to the dilletantes and dandys of the Elite, the Welfare Generationals. Oh, damn, that would be exclusionist wouldn’t it? Damn, there goes that idea.

Posted on December 3, 2010 at 9:43amThis is part of a much bigger problem and it can only be remedied by moral outrage. People who suggest ‘other options’ should be called out and HUMILIATED–otherwise the more we hear this kind of chatter the more it becomes normal–and the next thing you know we all have ‘blue pills’ in our ‘health’ plan.

Posted on December 3, 2010 at 9:38amHospice is the support you get when they want to take your meds away, give you morphine, and have you die AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. I’ve seen it now – up close and personal – twice. If the elderly person does not have a VERY STRONG ADVOCATE who refuses to follow guidance and who fights the system, that person will essentially be put in a corner to die. How different is this from placing babies who survive abortion in the corner to die? Same song, second verse…

My young 76-year old brother just died from congestive heart failure–his health had deteriorated to the point that he could not continue on. He was in terrible shape, suffering from so many causes, and HE DECIDED that he was ready to leave this world. Morphine kept him comfortable until the end. This is a family decision–not one to be dictated by a government panel or even a doctor. People are intelligent and know what their limits are.

Posted on December 3, 2010 at 9:25amGenerally speaking, Hospice is an option that provides palliative care when a patient is in the final days of his/her life. It provides a comfortable environment for patient to live out their last few days or weeks after medical options have been exhausted. But according to Mr. Daschle, medical options will be reduced to a nice shot of morphine to allow the patient to slip away comfortably. Will he also apply this method of treatment to the drug addict who returns to drugs after failed rehab? If the treatment isn’t effective, is there any sense in repetition, or would he advocate a kind overdosed in a hospice to save treatment for the worthy members of society? Watch out, Lindsay!!!

Wouldn‘t that mean that doctors wouldn’t even try to assure that something could be done?.
I KNOW what you‘re saying but I fear the line won’t be very clear
I think the fear is that doctors won‘t even test to make sure that they can’t be treated any further. Will the doctors that treat a patient who couldn’t be cured therefore wasting money, be penalized for thinking a patient could be treated?
I have NO idea the answers to these questions and I don’t think anyone does which is the fear. Will doctors not go far enough to save patients who COULD have been saved because of fear?

The Social Security Trust Fund is almost bankrupt and the Medicare trust fund is bankrupt. The problem has been apparent for years but until now no one has advanced a plan to save these popular programs.
At last, our President has the courage to propose a solution! It is so simple that one wonders why no one thought of it before. The solution?
Enact a “Health Care Reform Bill” the severely rations health care to the elderly. This will save the Medicare Trust Fund and allow it to be used to reward the Presidents political cronies and provide health care for “deserving Illegal Aliens.”
Deprived of medical care, the lifespan of the elderly will be reduced, depleting the number of recipients of the Social Security Trust Fund, saving that popular program.
Both problems solved! Why did it take so long to find such a simple solution?
Of course, the Congress and the President are exempted from the solution so they can perpetuate the problem. http://commonsense21c.com/
