Debate Demand: Rand Paul Calls for Apology Over ‘Aqua Buddha’ Ad

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul angrily accused Democratic rival Jack Conway of descending “into the gutter” with a TV ad questioning Paul’s faith and demanded an apology during a Sunday night debate that turned personal.

Paul criticized the commercial during his opening statement and quoted Scripture to deflect the attack while calling himself a “pro-life Christian.”

“Those who stoop to the level of attacking a man’s religious beliefs to gain higher office, I believe that they should remember that it does not profit a man to gain the world if he loses his soul in the process,” Paul said.

The candidates wrangled over health care, taxes and other issues, but the debate’s defining exchange came in the opening minutes at the University of Louisville.

The ad is based on published reports from an anonymous woman who claims Paul was the member of a secret society when he attended Baylor University. Paul has dismissed the reports as “ridiculous.”

A narrator in the ad repeats the claims from the woman, asking why Paul, while in college, tied her up and told her to worship an idol called “Aqua Buddha.”

Conway, the state’s attorney general, defended the attacks during their contentious exchange.

“Why did he freely join a group known for mocking, for making fun of people with faith?” Conway asked. “And secondly, when is it ever a good idea to tie up a woman and ask her to kneel before a false idol, your god, which you call Aqua Buddha?”

Paul said he was disheartened that the race had turned so personal.

“We have serious problems in our country … and he’s descended into the gutter to attack my Christian beliefs,” said Paul, a Bowling Green eye doctor.

“Jack, you should be ashamed of yourself. You should apologize. Have you no decency? Have you no shame?”

Paul and his family attend a Presbyterian church in Bowling Green, where his wife serves as a deacon.

Paul and Conway are competing for the job of retiring GOP Sen. Jim Bunning.

If Paul was a Democrat, calling the Bible a “hoax” and tying a woman up would be resume enhancers.

Silat, IMO that’s a distinct possibility AFTER the elections. I thought earlier that it might be before the ability of that IMO has dropped to 10%.

Remember there are EO’s on the books that would allow him to declare martial law and suspend the Constitution in the case of a National Emergency. BTW, Obama didn’t create those EOs but hes can sure implement them and then balme it on Bush and past POTUSs who did write thosze EOs.

Tonight I will prey that all the candidates find a way back to the issues and that the kentuckians, and for that matter all americans, will be able to cut through the garbage that doesn’t matter, find the truth and vote accordingly.

It is my understanding that Rand Paul was an active member of this organization while in college. If so, does his life show that he still supports its objectives or has he “repented?”

I’m very disappointed that Rand is getting in bed with NeoCon leaders concerning foreign policy and the military policy of eing the policeman of the world. This sends up RED FLAGS for me.

That said, I hope Rand wins but I’ve decided to reallocate my limited donantions to ther Tea Party candidates. Do as you wish.

I think we can all agree that our country is blithering away to nothing. A HUGE part of that is the enormous budget we are spending in our military. We are policing the world, we do have hundreds of military bases all over the world. We do rebuild and force ourselves on nations we don’t agree with. All the while our own boarders are unsecure, the country immediatley south of us is in the control of drug lords. So if Rand and a few others mainly his dad have a valid point that we need to take care of this country first. That does not mean sacrificing saftey to do so. It does mean putting a limit on our military spending as a HUGE means of getting our country back under control. So I am not insulting your comment but respectfully disagreeing with what you are saying as a reason this is so troubling to you. It is your thought and you are entilted to it but understand that not everyone sees things as you do. Have a great day and putting Rand in that seat is all that matters.

Left them live,,,,,,,,,,,,in the minority for the rest of their lives, all the while watching this country being transformed back to it’s founding principles, states rights, indiviual rights, & constitutional government,
LOL I’m just thinking of that, how great, how wonderful that would be, & how the entire country would be celebrating our conviction, & yet to progressives & hard left libs in this country, it would literally be like burning in hell. Watching everything they have accomplished over the last 40 years, being rolled back & rejected by the majority. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America & ,,,,,,,,, Bring that back into most schools across the country & that alone would either kill half of them or chase half of them to Canada or Europe.

Jack Conway disgraced himself and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He did not offer solutions. He dealt almost exclusively in personal attacks. The audience let him know it. Add to that the fact that all of the moderators are lefties, including the bearded Mr. Gerth of the oh-so-conservative “Courier Journal” and you must not only credit Dr. Paul for his personal integrity, but for his awesome courage.
Kentucky will reward both of those qualities by resoundingly electing Dr. Paul.

Rand Paul did very well in the debate. Jack Conway kept sticking to his talking points about how he would “save” 200 billion dollars here and 100 billion dollars there. Sounds like a typical “establishment” politician. It’s all make-believe money to them anyway. I may not agree with Rand Paul on all issues but I think that he has the one thing that Jack Conway lacks: integrity. That is why I will vote for Rand Paul on Nov. 2nd. Also, as the Commonwealth’s Attorney General, Conway has done a terrible job with enforcing the illegal immigrant and drug-crime laws. Especially meth-lab production. Maybe he should get a “real” job.

Once again, no evidence, no facts, no name of the acuser. It is despicable how low the left can go. Libs think of themselves as tolerant and smart- yet their power mongering leaders and would-be leaders treat the lib masses like they are bobbleheaded idiots who will just nod away to any distraction and outright lie. Polticians lie to you because they believe you are too partisan to care or too stupid to notice. Either way, it should be insulting to anyone who falls in line for this kind of bullying and lying. The power mongers only do it because they think so little of the peasants and so highly of how easy it is for them to manipulate the masses.

In life there are many pleasures and troubles to see
