Debbie Wasserman Schultz Gets Testy with The Blaze’s Will Cain on CNN After Confronted About Inaction

On CNN’s “Starting Point” on Tuesday, The Blaze‘s Will Cain confronted Debbie Wasserman Schutz about Congress’s refusal to tackle some of the tough fiscal issues until after the election. After Cain asked her why, the DNC chair and Florida congresswoman got defensive.
Mediaite has the back-and-forth:
“I think that’s an interesting quote you put up also recognizing the amount of work that you guys have to do over the next six months,” Cain said, addressing the Congresswoman. “You have what is equivalent of all of the Bush tax cuts expiring, you have the budget resolution, you have to come together on those forced cuts. I think the total package is over $4 trillion. Larger than any stimulus passed and any tax cut that’s ever passed. Why aren’t you working on it yet? Why are you waiting until supposedly after the November election to address these issues?”
“You guys?” Schultz asked.
“I’m not in Congress,” countered Cain.
“But Speaker Boehner is the leader of Congress and controls the agenda with Eric Cantor…” said Schultz.
“I’m not in Congress,” reiterated Cain. “I’m asking you because you are a member of Congress.”
“I’m a member of Congress in the minority, unfortunately, which I plan to help change in November,” Schultz shot back. “But the people who control the agenda right now in the House of Representatives are the Republicans. Ask them why they haven’t brought a single jobs bill to the floor since they took over the majority. Ask them why they are getting ready to allow the student loan interest rates to double.”
“So put out a package right now to extend the Bush tax cuts, you would be on board with that is what you’re saying?” Cain asked.
“No, I’d be opposed to that,” affirmed Schultz.
“Then you would be obstructing that,” observed Cain.
“The Bush tax cuts adds $700 billion to the deficit. Why would we extend them?” argued Schultz. “We need to continue to focus on President Obama’s agenda, giving tax breaks to the middle class and 18 different tax breaks he’s given to small businesses –”
Cain cut off the DNC chief in mid-sentence to point out Wasserman Schultz didn’t want to address the issues at hand.
“It’s clear all of the things coming up before the end of the year, you’re not interested in working on those right now,” said Cain. [Emphasis added]

Contrast that with Sarah Palin, who certainly is better looking and has a more attractive bod. Palin knows she can‘t hold her own and so you will never see her on with any host who isn’t salivating over her and throwing her softball question she knows in advance. Yes, she’s attractive, and fiesty, but seriously, not that smart or educated. And, if the rumors are true, a mean person. Big negative.

Actual TRUTH… TAX cuts don’t add to a deficit.. SPENDING does. If you take a 10% pay cut at work (which is what a tax cut is to the Federal government), then you spend less at home, otherwise your DEBT increases (which for the average American it true – we spend 110% of our GROSS each year). Spending habits increase debt, not income levels. And even the MSM in the 2008 Presidential debates told Obama, when you cut taxes, HISTORICALLY revenues INCREASE for the government. Obama said that didn’t matter, it had to be about fairness so taxes should go up.

Actual TRUTH – the economy was doing fine after 9/11 and the emergency measures taken by the Bush Admin. and the FED. The problem was that the FED continued those policies for TOO long creating the Housing Bubble, which the Republicans have been trying since 1996 to fix, Bush tried again in 2004 but was stopped by Barney Frank and the Dems.

There’s a revenue and spending side to this coin. Take Bush for example, he cut taxes, and increased spending by starting a couple of trillion dollar wars. He also passed an unpaid for prescription benefit program. So the deficit skyrocketed. And no jobs were created.

That would close the argument about taking money out of the budget. And then, if it calms the business sector, so that they will feel free to invest in their businesses over the rest of the year without the uncertainty of the tax cuts expiring- then could the positive impact of settling the issue quickly be estimated? In other words, is there an opportunity cost we pay by waiting, and keeping businesses on edge, because by waiting, we won’t have as much tax revenue increase given the tax cuts are extended as if we announced it early and people again begin to hire? Maybe I make no sense except to myself, but if tax cuts are better for the economy, surely, making businesses anticipate the worst for the next 6-9 months will have a measurable negative impact on the economy. That could be the cost of lame duck. Time is money, and 6 months of inactivity, when positive things need to be happening right now, is costly.

you are correct in your assessment. the uncertainty in the tax code is currently keeping an estimated 1-2 Trillion in capital locked up by the businesses in America. If the tax issue was settled, one way or another, really doesn’t matter as long as there is LONG term certainty (long means a decade or more) then that capital would flow back into economy… here in the USA if the rates are kept low or other locations if the rates are increased…either way the world economic picture would improve…
two simple things can be done to cause the USA economy to explode….literally…in jobs, tax evenue, stock prices, wages…everything…
1 – remove all the restrictions put in place after the BP oil spill and return all the Gulf rigs to full status as well as fast track all currently applied for and waiting for approval exploration leases… you would see oil hit under $80/barrel over night..possibly back down to $40/barrel within a year
2 – cut our corporate tax level to the average corporate tax rate of Europe…about 20%, make it permanent and make the Bush era personal tax rates permanent. You would see the nearly $2 trillion companies have in their accounts flood into the USA economy, we would create nearly 1 million new jobs in the next 1-2 years.

With rare exception, if you reduce tax rates to certain (low) levels then folks change their activities and the government winds up with more income. Do not be fooled by short term results or ‘net’ income. Congress has ALWAYS raised spending, so just look at the cash input.
Another thing Debbie Doublewide did was take the ‘static scoring’ numbers to come up with the 700 billion loss. Static scoring is not only stupid, it is totally dishonest. People DO change their behaviours depending on tax rates.

When the economy is healthy and robust, money changes hands frequently.
Take US$1.00… toss it in a drawer for the year. That dollar had the buying power of $0.00 since it never changed hands.
Take the same dollar, in a healthy economy, and it could change hands several times in a single day alone, so that dollar, could have had the buying power of $5.00 or more that day.
Taxes, continually take money out of the economy, and when that happens, there is less and less money flowing back and forth, and eventually you get to the point where it stagnates, as people have less and less discretionary money to spend on luxuries.
The higher the tax, the harder the brake on the economy.
Lower the tax, and you lessen the braking effect, and the economy gradually speeds back up again to a faster speed.
When that speed increases, the smaller tax rate, tends to actually bring in more revenue as the faster economy generates more taxable transactions in the same amount of time, offsetting the amount lost in the rate itself and then some.
When the citizenry keeps more of its money, they live better, spending it on things to improve their life.
When they can’t, they don’t spend as much, or not at all, and taxes, only work, when money changes hands.
