Deep-Sea Explorers Still Baffled by Unidentified Object on Sea Floor — Can You Name It?

Professional diver Peter Lindberg has pulled up a lot of things off the sea floor in his career. For example, the Swede once recovered a 100-year-old champagne collection from a shipwreck. But even with all his experience, he’s never seen anything like this. He’s baffled. What is “this?” Think of it as a U.F.O — an unidentified floating object of sorts (it’s really a sunken one).

“I have been doing this for nearly 20 years so I have a seen a few objects on the bottom, but nothing like this,” Lindberg told CNN.

While doing a routine dive at a “secret location” (that’s what CNN calls it) between Sweden and Finland, the deep-sea salvage company Ocean Explorer noticed something incredible located more than 80 meters down.

“We had been out for nine days and we were quite tired and we were on our way home, but we made a final run with a sonar fish and suddenly this thing turned up,” he added. He even used the term “U.F.O” to help describe it.

UFO Shipwreck? Explorer Peter Lindberg Finds Object on Baltic Sea Floor

Here’s how CNN describes it:

Using side-scan sonar, the team found a 60-meter diameter cylinder-shaped object, with a rigid tail 400 meters long.

The imaging technique involves pulling a sonar “towfish” — that essentially looks sideways underwater – behind a boat, where it creates sound echoes to map the sea floor below.

On another pass over the object, the sonar showed a second disc-like shape 200 meters away.

Lindberg’s team believe they are too big to have fallen off a ship or be part of a wreck, but it‘s anyone’s guess what could be down there.

[...]

The Head of Archaeology at Sweden’s Maritime Museums, Andreas Olsson, admits he’s intrigued by the picture, but remains sceptical about what it could be.

The reliability of one-side scan sonar images is one of his main concerns, making it difficult to determine if the object is a natural geological formation or something different altogether.

So what theories are circulating?

UFO Shipwreck? Explorer Peter Lindberg Finds Object on Baltic Sea Floor

“We’ve heard lots of different kinds of explanations, from George Lucas’s spaceship — the Millennium Falcon — to ‘it’s some kind of plug to the inner world,’ like it should be hell down there or something,” Lindberg said. Others have speculated it’s some sort of early Russian explorer vessel.

“But we won’t know until we have been down there.”

UFO Shipwreck? Explorer Peter Lindberg Finds Object on Baltic Sea Floor

The discovery first made news this past summer but is resurfacing now because the team still hasn’t figured out what it is.

For now, Lindberg and his crew are leaving the site alone until they can return in spring when the waters are calmer. They’ll try to figure out what it is then. But even if they don’t, the site could still prove valuable.

“The object itself is maybe not valuable in the sense of money it can be very interesting whatever it is, historical or a natural anomaly,” said Lindberg.

And you can be sure people will flock to see it.

Do you have any theories?

What would be funny is if it does turn out to be an alien spacecraft. The aliens would be so embarrassed that they finally got caught…sitting there all red-faced.

No, I can‘t ’name’ it. But, let me try this, just for fun.

It was in the later 1900s that (http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2001/ast24may_1/) an object on Mars was discovered using similar side scan technology that revealed a FACE on the surface of Mars!

In subsequent years we have learned (absolutely nothing) about the site in question and now know even less than before. But, we do know, for sure, that what we did see originally, was not what we thought we saw after wards. And for the record isn’t what was reported later by those informed as to what they could say in public about what they thought they saw.

And in summary, I‘d like to add that there is nothing that I’d add to that summary.

You see, Star Wars happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. It can’t be the Milenium Falcon, because that ship never made it to Earth.

But the Cylons did make it here in 1980. So it must be a Cylon Raider!!!

Composition: Unknown. Interesting? We can see what type of atmosphere a planet has from lightyears away but this object – 80 meters down… truly facsinating?
    195 ft Dia – interesting
Circular craft – Avro Car? not. Too small.
    Definately not a weather baloon.
Too big for the German’s IDF experiments during WWII.
If it was a treasure ship from the chinese fleet of 1421, it would have collapsed into a tear-drop shape, similar to the shape near the mountains of Ararat. Besides wood may have descentigrated by now?
Could it be a volcanic remanent?
Could it be a large part of an oil platform, maybe its base?
Round steel-hulled ship would not be efficient – it can’t be that.
Could it be a “dumping” container of questionable materials that was hoped to be “not found”?

I don’t know….. just some thoughts. I’ll keep think on it. Very curious.

It’s more for the launch of Star Wars the Old Republic online game released Dec. 20th…As for this thing they found…I bet it’s a failed weapon developed by the now executed Russian scientists. Look at that Russian aircraft that was pictured recently….How many of those took a digger before one would fly 16 ft off the ocean. That would be my guess.
