Defense Dept. Okays Process Allowing Cadets to Wear Hijabs for JROTC Program

In October, we brought you the story of Demin Zawity, a Muslim member of the Junior ROTC member at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tenn., who was not allowed to march in a program parade because she insisted on wearing her head covering, or hijab. At the time, military rules forbid such head coverings. Zawity employed the help of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), and now, the Department of Defense has relented and changed the rules.
CAIR announced the decision late last week and says it will apply to both Muslim and Sikh students.
“We welcome the fact that Muslim and Sikh students nationwide will now be able to participate fully in JROTC leadership activities while maintaining their religious beliefs and practices,” CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad told the Orlando Sentinel.
Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army Larry Stubblefield outlined the new exception procedure in a Dec. 19 letter to CAIR:
”I have been asked to respond on behalf of the Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta to your October 13, 2011 letter concerning Miss Demin Zawity’s request to wear a religious head covering (hijab) while participating in an Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) event at Ravenwood High School.
“Based on your concerns, the Army has reviewed its JROTC uniform policy and will develop appropriate procedures to provide Cadets the opportunity to request the wear of religious head dress, such as the turban and hijab. This change will allow Miss Zawity and other students the chance to fully participate in the JROTC program. Additionally, a representative from the U.S. Army Cadet Command will contact Miss Zawity and provide her the opportunity to rejoin the Ravenwood High School JROTC unit.
“The Army prides itself in being a diverse organization, comprised of individuals from many faiths and religions. We appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention.”
Under U.S. Army policy, full head coverings are prohibited during official uniformed ceremonies.
“I was like, you’ve got to be kidding me. I wanted to just break down crying right there,” Zawity told Nashville’s WTVF-TV at the time. “They‘re telling me I’m not allowed to march in the parade just because of a piece of cloth wrapped around my head. And to me it‘s not like it’s just a piece of cloth, to me, it’s like my symbol.”

All they are concerned with are pawns of any kind that they can move around the board and manipulate to perform their many hare-brained tasks, and they’re willing to accept anybody, promote anybody, and overlook divisiness in order to get as many bullet stoppers and as much cannon fodder as they can, while they manipulate entire units any way they choose, and those individuals lost, because of their idiotic policies, are counted merely as “collateral damage,” people that they’re willing to sacrifice as part of what they perceive to be the big picture.
They DID NOT abolish DADT, because of any principle; they DID NOT pursue AA programs, inserting unqualified officers under their command, because they think it is the “right” thing to do; they DID NOT waive standards for dress for Muslims, because they feel doing so will make for a better military. They did all of it, because they perceive some advantage to themselves in what they perceive as their pursuit of victory within the big picture.
And, all these things they did knowing they won’t be accepted by the vast majority, but they don’t care.
They don’t care. There are NO Eisenhowers in today’s military who anguish over sending men to die in battle. What we have now are bithering idiots who are determined to look out for number one even if it sacrifices many thousands of lives.

If the same rules do not apply to everyone, then there is no loss of individuality which is necessary in order to have a cohesive unit. Does anyone think that our soldiers do not know about the Muslim terrorist attacks that have already occurred from within the military?

Either everyone wears the uniform with the same components or it is not a UNIFORM and the concept of good order and discipline, which is the backbone of the program, is lost, and it might as well be replaced by a Boy Scout or Girl Scout troop. This policy changed a couple of times over the years and though I was upset, I was joining a family and agreeing to those terms of the family. I dont think I can serve any longer with changes like this. We wont be one system anymore and I dont think I could treat someone the same if they didnt have to dress like me. I do bring this question, a few weeks ago it was the beard and now I guarantee this will make it into the real military-will christians be able to show their cross? Under current policy they can wear it, but it has to be hidden under the shirt

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 11:35amThe whole point of the military is to take people from different ethnicities, backgrounds and cultures and strip them of their individualism and mold them into one cohesive unit (culture) adhering to one set of standards. When you join the military you are trading your culture for the military culture, it‘s not a job it’s a vocation, it’s a way of life, at least it used to be. Thanks Obama. It’s only a matter of time before there are gay pride parades on military bases. The Left is slowly but surely chipping away at everything that is sacred in this nation. Then again how else can you FUNDAMENTALY transform a nation? When I returned from Afghanistan I had the opportunity (honor) to be a speak several times regarding my experiences in the war. When people asked me how much of a threat Al Qaeda was I always answered that our biggest threat was from within, from people who deep down inside hate what America stands for and want to fundamentally changer her. They want to remove God from ever facet of society, they are in favor of aborting babies in the name of quality of life and conserving resources, they want to indoctrinate our children into “alternative” lifestyles and sexual experimentation, the environment is their religion and their motto is “In Government we trust” Pray to God for our country, we need God now more than ever.

This country was founded on Church fundamentals and Christian beliefs. This is what makes the U.S. different than other countries and why we are the only super power. This article makes me dismantle my “Ain’t I wonderful Wall” and ship the whole thing to the dump. One of the reasons for the establishment of the U.S. Navy was to stop the muslims from kidnapping and enslaving American merchant marine sailors. What has changed in muslim theology since then?
