Defense Secretary Panetta Says That Pakistani Doctor Provided Key Information for Capturing Osama bin Laden

(AP) — Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is acknowledging publicly for the first time that a Pakistani doctor provided key information to the U.S. in advance of the successful Navy SEAL assault on Osama bin Laden’s compound last May.

Panetta told CBS’s “60 Minutes,” in a profile to be broadcast on Sunday, that Shakil Afridi helped provide intelligence for the raid on bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Afridi ran a vaccination program for the CIA to collect DNA and verify bin Laden’s presence in the compound. He has since been charged by Pakistan with treason. Panetta said he is “very concerned” for the doctor.

Panetta also told “60 Minutes” that he remains convinced that someone in the Pakistani government “must have had some sense” that a person of interest was in the compound. He added that he has no proof that Pakistan knew it was bin Laden.

The Pakistani government had hoped to resolve the Afridi matter quietly, once media attention died down, perhaps releasing him to U.S. custody, according to two Pakistani officials. They requested anonymity because the investigation into charges the doctor behaved treasonously was ongoing.

I guess Obama’s idea of transparency has nothing to do with his White House. No, but he has no problem with letting the world know our CIA’s methods and key informants identities while they remain in harms way.

What a stupid loud mouth ass ! And we wonder why US intelligence has a difficult time getting into our enemies minds ! Each time we have an intelligence success, some a–h–e in our governmnet feels a need to run off at the mouth, to justify their existence. Yes, I know as far as DC is concerned his comments are old news. That’s just my point, it should not have been in the news in the first place.
I suppose he just wanted to make sure the whole frigging world heard it ! The dumb a– of all dumb a–es

Leon “Blabbermouth” Panetta should be in hot water for running his mouth about this Pakistani doctor. If that man is killed, his blood will be on Mr. Panetta’s hands. He should have never revealed this information. Good luck finding anyone else to help us out in the future. I know I certainly would not.

Thanks, Panetta! You have proven that you are out to destroy the USA and anyone who helps them. Just like the Navy Seals involved were killed in a helicopter “wreck”.

      This bugs me!

Is there some Czar that sends out Memoes upon who should Outed… or is there a Meeting upon How Can We Screw Up American Honor… or does the President say Let’s Be Transparent Today: Everyone Drop Their Pants… or is the Cabinet alike unresticted Canons, just rolling from one side of the Ship to other? And, if he does this at DOD… what the hell did he do at the CIA?

This is infuriating! Panetta is the weakest National security appointment in a long time! He is just a lap dog for Obama and the Dems. He sat by idly while Nancy Pelosi publicly called the CIA liars. To this day he has not demanded an apology nor received one from the “Queen” He was given a “lateral arabesque” to head of the Defense Department where he continues with the policy of appeasement and outright stupidity..
I hope that this entire bunch of losers is deposed in November!

Hey Leon, how about you stop talking and learn how to keep some much needed secrets that don’t jeapordize the intelligence community?

this administration is endangering the efforts of special forces and secret intelligence gatherers! no administration has ever divulged as much information on operations as this one. and so soon after they happen. this is all for political gain! we never should have been told about the somali raid that rescued those 2 people. Now, many other people who are held hostage are in even more danger. now, the people who are trying to track all these savages have to fight blabbering politicians who scare the captors into even more hiding. and even worse: fewer people are going to help intel agents because of fear of being arrested like this doctor.

i guarantee you after obama is out of office, you’ll get books from guys in the intel agencies about how irresponsible the obama admin, pentagon, state dept, and beauocrats at the CIA were with intelligence.

we never should have learned about the bin laden raid details. just announce that he was killed by a drone, and be done with it. but NO! the administration has to reveal who did it, how they did it, and all the secret intel they found after the raid. that’s supposed to be top secret info, but lets give some of it to Hollywood for a re-elect obama movie to exploit the Navy SEALs and spec ops groups.

Why in the name of God would anyone in their right mind do anything for the United States? Panetta has probably just sealed that man’s fate. If he’s found out, he’ll be killed. Are our leaders so dumb that they can‘t see that or is it just that they don’t give a d*mn? One day, nobody will help us, and it will be our own fault.
