Dem Congressman: Providing Food Stamps and Unemployment Benefits Two ‘Most Stimulative’ Things for U.S. Economy

Democrat Steny Hoyer Says Food Stamps, Unemployment Benefits Two Most Stimulative Things For the Economy

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told reporters on Tuesday that the two most “stimulative” things the government can do is provide food stamps and unemployment insurance, CNSNews.com reports.

Well if that’s the case, the economy should be thoroughly “stimulated.”  A report released by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) last month states that there are now roughly 45 million Americans receiving food stamps. That’s one in every seven people.

Further, government spending on food stamps, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), increased by 65 percent between 2007 and 2011. It’s frustrating — we should be more stimulated by now. Instead, the U.S. remains in one of the slowest so-called economic recoveries arguably in American history.

Hoyer was apparently asked by a reporter on Tuesday whether Democrats in Congress were reconsidering the “wisdom” of allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire for the country’s most wealthy at the end of 2012 instead of extending the tax breaks to Americans of all income-brackets.

“I haven’t talked to any who are of that mind,” Hoyer said. “If you talk to economists, they will tell you there are two things that are the most stimulative that you can do — one’s unemployment insurance, the other’s food stamps, okay?”

“Why is that?” he asked.  ”Because those folks who receive those resources must spend them. And they’ll spend them almost upon receipt. Most economists with whom I talk believe that those with significant discretionary income, that that’s not the case.”

The Bush tax cuts are set to expire on the first day of 2013 unless Congress acts. Meanwhile, a battle is brewing on Capitol Hill as Obama and Democrats only want people making less than $250,000 to keep the Bush tax cuts while Republicans want the rates extended for everyone.

According to CBO projections, allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire on Jan. 1, 2013 would result in a 1.3 percent contraction in GDP when coupled with looming defense cuts.

Thats rich Hoyer. Are all Democrats this stupid? Its the same thing Nazi Pelosi said a couple years ago and look how stimulated the economy is since then? I know what the problem is, Obama and his crony minions just have not spent enough…..we need to give him four more years for his policies to work. In the mean time, ALL of us need to go on welfare, unemployment, and Food Stamps so we can get America back on her feet and 100% fully stimulated. Thats the ticket folks – just ask a Liberal…../rollseyes…..

Did he just walk out of a the Hole In The Wall Bar. Food stamps are just the incentive for that Ring in the nose that the Dems. have been using for 45 Yrs to lead the blacks around. Smart people know that the real money to stimulate the economy came form Wall St and Big Banks bailout. Year end bonus for the top dogs was as high as 5 $ million and the average was a $ Million.these people went out and bought those 550 H.P. Shelbys Mustangs and BMW’s.This was to the tune of 3/4 Trillion bucks.

Steny now qualifies as the most stupid or deceitful ideologue in the democratic arsenal. How does taking money from taxpayers to give people an option to not seek employment really help the economy? Think about it Steny, IF THOSE recipients were working there would be less outflow from the federal coffers and more TAX money coming in. Economy 101; money in, good. Money out, not so good.

Our economy will never recover as long as democrats rule. They are the stupidest people on planet earth. Their policies have always failed. Time and again, yet they never learn. It is because they want to ultimately turn America into a socialist country. They believe that is the best way to consolidate power unto themselves. And that is the most important thing in life to them. What is worse is how many people follow them blindly. They are even more stupid! Blind morons for Obama, yea!!

      ————————————————————————————————
You are correct. Listening to members of Congress (House and Senate) can be very frustrating, especially the President as all these people are so out of touch with the rest of us. If as president Obama said no one is successful at creating business or jobs without the government, then why has all this welfare not created a boom economy. Why has government not created jobs. I believe president Obama has let the GM stock go low and not created jobs because this is part of some program he has to transform America.
