Dem Gov. Says Romney’s Polygamous Roots Are Politically Problematic (What About Obama’s?)

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer
Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, a Democrat, has a theory regarding some potential electoral troubles he believes Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney may encounter. On Thursday, in an interview with The Daily Beast, he said that Romney may face resistance nationally because his father was “born on a polygamy commune in Mexico.”
“I am not alleging by any stretch that Romney is a polygamist and approves of [the] polygamy lifestyle, but his father was born into [a] polygamy commune in Mexico,” Schweitzer is also quoted as saying in the interview.
As The Gateway Pundit noted, though, as have other outlets that President Barack Obama, too, has a polygamist family history. In an op-ed for The Washington Post, associate editor David Maraniss wrote the following about both Obama‘s and Romney’s attachment, albiet indirect, to plural marriage:
The line of polygamists in Obama’s family can be traced back generations in western Kenya, where it was an accepted practice within the Luo (pronounced LOO-oh) tribe. His great-grandfather, Obama Opiyo, had five wives, including two who were sisters. His grandfather, Hussein Onyango, had at least four wives, one of whom, Akumu, gave birth to the president’s father, Barack Obama, before fleeing her abusive husband. Obama Sr. was already married when he left Kenya to study at the University of Hawaii, where he married again. His American wife-to-be, Stanley Ann Dunham, was not yet 18 and unaware of his marital situation when she became pregnant with his namesake son in 1961.
The line of polygamists in the Romney family traces back generations, when it was an accepted practice in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His paternal great-grandfathers, Miles Park Romney and Helaman Pratt, were born in the United States but lived for decades in Mexico. Pratt was a Mormon missionary there; Miles Park Romney left Utah for Mexico with a tribe of polygamous Mormons after the Mormon church broke with the practice of polygamy in 1890.

So, by Schweitzer’s own standard, Obama, too, would encounter problems on the national stage as a result of his family’s practice of polygamy. Gateway Pundit makes this point about the alleged double-standard that has caused Romney to gain more scrutiny on the issue than Obama, despite minimal differences between their family’s stories:
It is also well known that Democrat Senator from New Mexico, Tom Udall, and his cousin, Senator Mark Udall (D) from Colorado, come from a long line of polygamists. But that was never an issue because they are Democrats. Mens Journal reported:
In the Udall family, politics stretches back generations. Mark’s and Tom’s great-grandfather, David King Udall, was a pioneer Arizonan and a Mormon polygamist who was sent to federal prison (on testimony of an ancestor of Mitt Romney’s, family lore has it). He was pardoned by President Grover Cleveland, then tossed back in jail. This time, it was Barry Goldwater’s grandfather who got him off the hook.
It’s only ever an issue if the politician is Republican.

Of course, many will wonder why this issue matters at all. Neither candidate stands in favor of polygamy and there is no evidence whatsoever or direct correlations. Still, the premise of a double-standard is intriguing, especially considering that Schweitzer seemed unaware that his party’s candidate has the same “issue” in his own background.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 2:35pmI don’t know that Reid is considered a “strong” member of the church. I certainly don’t. But the church does not have thought police. They go by one’s behavior. So if you have clear evidence that Reid has committed adultery, has had an abortion or financed an abortion, or has committed a serious crime, it can be submitted to his church leaders. They can evaluate the evidence and decide if it rises to the level of excommunication or disfellowship. With only a few exceptions, political speech does not rise to that level. So as long as Reid doesn’t actually practice what he preaches (something Democrats are good at), he can remain in good fellowship with the church. But that doesn’t mean he is a “strong” member.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 2:56pmWhy is this even an issue? Are we automatically condemned by what our parents believed at one point in time? Should we look at every public figure’s family history from now on and decide on that if they are fit for office??
Even if his grandfather had 200 wives, it does not affect Romney’s character. Judge Romney by Romney’s actions, not his ancestors’.

“This governor is just another ant-Mormon bigot.”
I think it was as simple as the Democrat National Committee (DNC) or Obama’s campaign manager, Axelrod, went to the Democrat governor & told him “We got to dirty up Romney. Here you walk this dog.”
If Axelrod had done this there would be louder howls of outrage. As it is Obama has plausible deniability.
This was a political operation & they were hoping to suppress the Republican base. Like the Democrats we have some tribal voters and/or low information voters. I would posit that the Democrats have more, but that is a discussion for another time.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 3:25pmThe difference is that Obama family grandfather having many wives is different because of religion. The Mormon founders said that the only way to Heaven is through polygamy. Polygamy was a very large part of the Mormon faith until they changed their minds and decided Utah wanted to be a state.
Look, I get this race should be fair, but its not going to be. If none of the Black Liberation Theology stuck to Obama the first time, nothing will stick. The media is on his side and they are going to come at the Mormon faith with guns a blaze.
I personally have a very close friend who is a Mormon but as a Christian I fear for his salvation from what I know of the Mormon faith from him and other sources.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 3:59pmMaybe the polygamy aspect of Obama’s father is the reason his half brother still lives in a hut in Kenya and his aunt lives on welfare in New Jersey. Did you know that he had an Indonesian half sister who suddenly died 2 years ago in Indonesia, and another sister who lives in Hawaii? Are they all of the same mothers? The LSM sure keeps us informed of all these siblings.

Maybe we’re finally starting to understand that the left obviously plans to use the “Mormon Issue” to divide us from within. The left thinks all Christians are crazy, so the mormon issue won’t move them one way or another. However, its the evangelical right that seems to have the biggest problem with this issue. Kind of hard to dispute this.

Brigham Young said you are damned if you deny polygamy.
“Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned,” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 3, p. 266). Also, “The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy,” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 11, p. 269).
“We formerly taught to our people that polygamy or celestial marriage as commanded by God through Joseph Smith was right; that it was a necessity to man’s highest exaltation in the life to come.” (Reed Smoot Case, vol. 1, page 18)
“Why do we believe in and practice polygamy? Because the Lord introduced it to his servants in a revelation given to Joseph Smith, and the Lord’s servants have always practiced it. ‘And is that religion popular in heaven?’ it is the only popular religion there,…”
- Prophet Brigham Young, The Deseret News, August 6, 1862
I mean you can make fun of me or read the material your false “prophets” made.
As for receiving salvation gift from Christ. The problem is Mormons do not worship the Jesus Christ from the Bible. They worship a fake one created by Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith’s Jesus is the son of god who used to be a man, he is brothers with Satan, and the followers of that false Jesus are supposed to become gods and rule over their own planets one day. In Genesis Ch 1 V 27/28 HE created man in HIS own image, blessed them, and gave HIS FIRST command given in Scripture. Be fruitful and multiply FILL the earth. Teaching that Christ and lucifer were SPRITUAL brothers in Heaven, befor creation is also a heresy. Christ IS part of the God head, and has ALWAYS existed. Scripture CLEARLY states that ALL of creation was done BY Jesus Christ as per Colossians Ch 1 V 14-17. This include lucifer, who was perfect originally until iniquity was found in him. His name was then changed to satan[the adversary of God], Angels, including lucifer, were given FREE CHOICE to do God’s will[ which was GOOD], but 1/3 chose to disobey. THEY have no way back to God. WE DO. Man too, being deceived by that old serpent, satan, was given free choice, and also disobeyed. Spritual and physical death were the result.

No, it was a very big part ofthe LDS faith until God said it was to no longer be practiced. God then had to remind the LDS church that He has prohibited it. Becoming a state was secondary to banning polygamy and not directly related to statehood.

“Joseph Smith’s Jesus is the son of god who used to be a man”
Josepoh Smith NEVER taught that Jesus used to be a man but the Only Begotten Son of God. Nor did Smith teach that the Father used to be a man, at least not by anything first hand. The only recod available today about Smith and the Father used to be a man is the King Follet Report and that reporttoday is from third party sources and edited and published after Joseph Smith died (by the hand of “true Christians”). Smith therefore never got to examine that report himself.
“he is brothers with Satan”
True but very misleading. Mormons reject the Holy Trinity, a concept of fourth century philosophy and declare that the Father created all, even Jesus and Satan. That makes them brothers but it was Jesus who from the beginning was “like God” and fulfilled all of the Father’s will from the beginning and thus becamse our Savior and the only way to the Father. Mormons thus worship the Father through the Son (that’s profoundly Christian) and Satan chose to rebel and fell from heaven. Therefore Mormons believe Jesus and Satan are on two different ends of the eternal existence.
“and the followers of that false Jesus are supposed to become gods and rule over their own planets one day’
That has NEVER been taught by the LDS church or its leaders in any official capacity whatsoever. thus it is NOT what “Mormons believe”. (con’t)

That’s actually a much better pioint of criticism than anything Mutin has EVER offered.
The LDS does not view as Adam aving “sinned” against God but rather “transgressed”. Yes he broke a law God set forth and thus suffered the consequence of death. The sdifference between sinnnig and transgressing is I think in part to openly rebel against God. Adam did not openly rebel against God but he did make a choice with consequence. Likewise, if you lift both of your legsi nthe air you’ll fall. That‘s not a sin but if you did so you’d transgress the law of gravity and not remain standing had you legs remained firmly planted on the ground.
Eating of the fruit did bring death and part of that death, physical death, would be passed on to all of Adam and Eve’s descendents. sin would be done by individual choice which all of Adam’s descendents, save Jesus chose to do. Thus a Savior would be necessary for redemption of both spiritual and physical death. That Savior was Jesus Christ, God’s Only Begotten Son in the flesh.

“14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.” (1 Timothy 2) Here is a declaration that eve transgressed, not “sinned”. The LDS believe that at this point Adam realized that he should follow Eve lest they never procreate and remain alone one from another.
“Christ IS part of the God head, and has ALWAYS existed. Scripture CLEARLY states that ALL of creation was done BY Jesus Christ as per Colossians Ch 1 V 14-17.”

It’s not a sin because God never told us not to lift both of our legs in the air.

Even if I bought into the notion that Romney is / was similar to Obama, at least a Romney President will slow things down for us to catch up – will give us more time to work within our State Governments and Congress to turn the tide.
Ron Paul will win the nomination. Ron Paul will not be on the ballot.
It looks to be Romney and Obama. We have a chance with Romney, we are doomed with Obama.
So what do you think the reasonable choice is? – Romney or Obama? Really, this is a hard choice?

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 2:05pmThe Sea Change: Obama’s Confirmed Forgeries Are Not Going Away
By Monte Kuligowski @ American Thinker
For several years, an Orwellian-type fear of being “marginalized” held reporters and pundits back from questioning Barack Obama’s eligibility to hold the office of the presidency. To raise an eyebrow at the bizarre secrecy of Obama was off-limits. To question whether the historic definition of “natural born citizen” applied to Obama was
Like it or not, the ground has shifted, and it cannot shift back. The evidence of Obama’s forgeries is not going away.
Up until this point, Mr. Obama controlled everything, including the talking points and burden of proof.
Rather than simply produce certified paper copies for state election officials and make the original available for officials to inspect in Hawaii, Obama played games with his purported birth certificate. We were told for three years that Obama’s birth certificate had been posted online in 2008 — though it turns out that it was a scant certification. In 2010, when confronted with the alarming doubts of the American people, Mr. Obama lamented to a sympathetic Brian Williams of NBC: “I can’t spend all my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead.” …

What is your point?
I believe that there is but “one flock and one shepherd” (John 10:16). All of the doctrinal differences beyond Jesus is the Redeemer, the lamb slain for the remission of sin, the way the truth and the life, is inconsequential – we can fight it out in Heaven – if it ever crosses our mind once there, to ask.
God did not advocate polygamy. God made it very clear in Genesis that one man, one woman. Those described in the Bible were violating (in rebellion to) God’s plan (another reason to believe the validity of the Bible – for why would you write about your dirty laundry otherwise)

It does not matter that he is Mormon to me. I have been under the impression from the start of listening to Glenn Beck that the enemy is not Democrats or Liberals, but progressives in both parties. Now if you are Mormon and are voting for Romney because he is the same faith as you, that is as bad as blacks voting for Obama just because he is black. Again, if Obama was not a progressive and believed in individual liberties, I would look at voting for him. I am not going to just vote party line or the same faith or the same color skin, I am voting on principles and dedication to the roots of our country that made it great, I will vote for the candidate that is closest to our founding fathers, Ron Paul.

Just stop this insanity about Mormonism and other denominations. I have said this before and I will keep saying it – From God’s perspective there is but “one flock and one shepherd” (John 10:16).
If any denomination says that Jesus is the way the truth and the life, that no man cometh unto the Father but by me (Jesus) that should be sufficient for any true believer.
Want to “fight and argue about it”, wait until we get to heaven, if you still feel so inclined (or even remember this argument) in the presence of th Most High, then we can talk.
We are to keep the unity (Mark 9)
“All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other.” John 13:35
Stop and think about that verse for a minute. Could it be that unity is the key to reaching the world for Christ? . . .Isn’t that what is important – reaching the world for Christ?
Nowhere, by the way, are we told to build unity. We are told simply to keep unity
Those of us in the Body better get a grip and stop the in-fighting – http://www.maxlucado.com/articles/topical/life_aboard_the_fellow-ship
We better come together regardless of any doctrinal differences – that is our hope and one of the final commands of the Saviour

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 4:42pmJust want you to know that Dowd and Collins, to name a few, wrote ENDLESS opinion columns since 2008 in the Lefty New York Times repeating,…and repeating…and repeating..this story every time Romney’s name came up ! Such depth. Such political importance. I was, frankly amazed, that these clowns are STILL running this . Guess it shows that the Democrat Character Assassination Squad wasn’t able to dig up much on Romney like they did for Cain, etc. Collins , Dowd , and the NYT should be prosecuted by PETA for kicking a dead horse !

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 1:32pm“The line of polygamists in the Romney family traces back generations, when it was an accepted practice in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” Ah so accepted by the Morman’s is somehow more legitimate than accepted in the Kenyan culture. No doubt the lemmings here will follow the biased and weak flow of the report.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 2:28pmObama’s father was a drunk, a habitual drunk driver, a polygamist, a revolutionary anti-capitalist and a communist who abandoned his young son for “the cause”. Oh, Obama didn’t really know his father? Well Romney didn’t know his great-grandparents either.
You say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree? Yes, let’s have THAT conversation.
Mitt is a Mormon, he was married in the church, his children were baptized in the church…..well maybe despite all of this, like Obama, he sat in the pews all these years and never heard what was said.
What’s that you say? Mitt tied a dog kennel to the top of his vehicle with the dog in it? Well at least he didn’t serve it up for dinner, thank goodness for food storage!
Mitt’s wife “never worked a day in her life” but somehow she was “burdened” with 5 children that Obama would never want his daughters’ to have happen to them.
Mitt was born with a “silver spoon in his mouth” and somebody gave the Obama’s “a chance”, wonder who that was? Do you think perhaps his Columbia and Harvard education was in part paid for in silver— in the form of reduced tuition?
Keep it up libs, your guy doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 2:13pmRomney is the scion of an old Mormon family. His grandparents were polygamists who fled the United States in the early 20th century when the Mormon Church repudiated polygamy; his father was born in Mexico. The Romneys returned to the U.S. in 1911 when a violent civil war broke out in Mexico.
Mitt Romney is a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and spent time as a missionary during his youth converting Catholics and agnostics to Mormonism in France. In fact, his time as a student and missionary helped him defer from military service during the Vietnam draft,[1] but he stated during interviews that “he had longed to join the soldiers in Vietnam and support the war effort.“ His father had stated in 1967 that he felt ”brainwashed” by U.S. officials over the justification of the prolonged Vietnam war. This statement had been very costly in George Romney’s 1968 campaign for president against Richard Nixon.
Romney claims to maintains a stable marriage with his wife Ann, with whom he has five children.
Report Post »Romney is the son of former Michigan governor and presidential candidate George Romney, a “Rockefeller Republican,”[2] who amassed a large fortune as an automobile industry magnate during World War II. George Romney was popular among moderates during his presidential run and was well-equipped for victory; many of his political advisors had come from Nelson Rockefeller’s 1964 campaign.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 1:31pmOKAY.. the DIVIDER in Chief needs to go back and LISTEN to his OWN HYPOCRITCAL words from his 2006 speech! This part, in particular, jumped out at me….
Report Post »“Yet even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes. Well, I say to them tonight, there’s not a liberal America and a conservative America – there’s the United States of America. There’s not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there’s the United States of America. The pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don’t like federal agents poking around our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and have gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and patriots who supported it. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.”

Pretty transparent..and definitely, NOT Christian…
