Dem Rep. Tells Russian Media: U.S. Is ‘Banana Republic’ Without Wealth Redistribution

Without more redistribution of wealth, the United States of America is on the road to becoming a “banana republic,” warns Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill.

In an interview with Russia Today, Congresswoman Schakowsky claims that the American middle class is disappearing because the federal government is failing to effectively redistribute wealth. Among her top concerns: extending Bush-era tax cuts for all income levels:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t “banana republics” tend to be found in parts of the world where government become too involved — whether voluntarily or by force? And isn’t free enterprise one of the best ways to deter such concentrated government power?

But Schakowsky‘s is the mindset of many Democrats today who believe redistributing the nation’s wealth is the only way to maintain a middle class, despite history’s lessons to the contrary.

At the same time, Russia Today offers this report, claiming that the American Dream is dead:

So the progressive government should take the wealth, and they decide how to best spend it to buy votes. Sure sounds like a legitimate operation to me. HA! It was Hillary that said that “there are too many rich people in this country”. The American dream is NOT that prosperity will be handed to you on a silver platter.

Okay— How much re-distribution do they want? This Nation feeds the Hungry, heels the sick and travel the globe to do it. This Charity from this Nation rivals the GDP of most Countries.

The charity of the United States is 5 times as effective as all the Government waste and payouts to dictators that skim the Taxpayer money and the goods airlifted in to these Countries.

The question is: Why do these Democrats/Progressives hate the poor, always wanting to get their hands on the goodies and pilfer from it? They do it in OUR disadvantaged Communities for decades. I guess they need to move on to greener pastures – Go Global…

I feel like it was all a waste because there are many clowns in government and congress too. How does a man who thinks an island can tip over get elected anyway? I am in awe every time I hear one of this ilk speak. So… the money, the wealth, the assets, the productivity an individual ever creates, saves and passes on, is really the government’s money, wealth, asset and productivity? What has this woman ever productively done with her life? And…not to mention the family farms in Illinois that are valued well above this $5m ‘credit’. Where is that family going to find the cash to pay the IRS, 9 months after mom or dad has died? The IRS doesn’t accept corn or wheat as payment – Cash only!

Another Commie/Socialist or whatever they like to call themselves. They don’t seem to get it…people want to better their lives and leave something to their children… Taxes were already paid on the money. The American Dream was working fine after WWII, until the socialist’s/ a la Democratic Party determined that we had to drive ‘big business’ out. Thanks to them there are ‘no jobs’ in industry and manufacturing.
Their idea of job creation is ‘beauracracy’, federal, state and local….welfare, without work, free college education to the mindless, being taught by the unqualified who get job preference due to the color of their skin, not the contact of their character.
All put under the umbrella of ‘civil rights;workers rights;womens rights; gay rights; amnesty to illegals all protected by ‘Diversity and EEOC Officers. Clever isn’t it. Is their any other armed force in the world that MUST have a DIVERSITY representative in ALL units???..Kinda like the ‘Gestapo’ and ‘NKVD”.. Interesting…how everyone is afraid to express their opinions. Kinda like what Hitler,Mao,Castro and all Communists did….Their just dressing it up as ‘American values. Let me correct that… it is ok to develop those things but whatever fruits you collect must not be yours!!!!!! They must be for the collective and not for you. I suppose it begs the question… WHY WOULD ONE DO THE WORK TO CREATE SOMETHING GREAT ???? A question that our socialist brothers and sisters are obliged to answer.

It just absolutely blows my mind that politicians believe that “rich” people have no right to the money that they or their parents worked so hard for. I’ve been out of work over a year and just found a job making 27K a year, the least I have made in 20+ years and I don‘t have a right to someone else’s money unless they decide to offer it to me themselves. These people really believe that the government has a right to as much of someone’s money as they see fit to take. If there continued employment was based on performance there would be an awful lot of high paying jobs available in DC right now.

You don’t think having your wealth “redistributed” might affect your right to pursue liberty and happiness?

I’m not rich, in fact I am poor. I work my ass off and barely can make ends meet. Maybe people like me would benifit from some free money, but I know it’s not right, and I am happy for people who enjoys success. Maybe if I work hard enough I may get there someday.

A good way to test if something is a right is to ask yourself “at whose expense?”

Where in the Constitution does it say that higher incomes cannot be taxed at a higher rate?

First of all, I would guess from your name you are a RED? Or am I misinterpreting that? (Seriously, I don’t know)
Well, lets start with the 10th amendment, which states that any power not expressly delegated to the United States is reserved to the states and the people. The 16th amendment gave congress the power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever sources derived. It did NOT spell out the power to tax the same income differently.

      Article 1 section 9
No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein befor directed to be taken.

Amendment 16 changed the ability to levy a direct tax ONLY. Not to levy a proportionately different amount for different levels of incomes, even though that particular idea is one of the Planks of Communism that the American left loves so much. It gave congress a power for income tax, not PROGRESSIVE income tax.

Progressive judges helped to uphold this act because they don’t care about their oath, they care about getting on the bench to use technical decisions to weaken basic American institutions. But hey, what do I know? I’m just the mailman.

The real problem is, while we debate this, the REALLY rich like Buffet and Gates pay almost nothing. They take advantage of legal and corporate loopholes which allow them to own nothing but control much thru their companies. The way to eliminate fraud and make it as fair as possible for everyone is to completely abolish the tax code and institute a consumption or flat tax. NO LOOPHOLES, no write-offs. Everyone pays proportionately the same. Even with its defects, it would be far better than what we now have. (Ain’t that right, charlie rangel?)

Don‘t be confused by Congresswoman Schakowsky’s party affiliation. True, she is a member of the Democratic Party. However, she is first and foremost a member of the far-left wing of the Democratic party, called the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Just who are the Congressional Progressive Caucus? It’s a rogues gallery filled with politicians like Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, Pete Stark, Alan Grayson, and Nancy Pelosi (who gave up her seat when she became House Speaker).
    http://soquelbythecreek.blogspot.com/2010/08/socialists-in-united-states-congress.html

Just look at the damage inflicted to the core of American political life by the Progressives as evidenced by the failed governments in Illinois, California, and New Jersey. It wasn’t free-market policies that delivered multi-billion dollar state deficits and financial damage. It was the failed socialist policies of the Progressives.

I have got to say…. what I said was a joke “Banana Republic —— Monkey” The fact that I think Obambam is ugly is my opinion. — I’ve seen far worse comments on a regular basis on the BLAZE and they are never called out. (Like “Planet of the Apes”…. Rag heads…and much worse that I won’t even list them here……………..etc etc)

So before you judge someone, look closer at the intent… they are still on your side even if the comment may be a little off tone. ——- Lighten up folks or we will all be fighting with each other and that is what the left wants.

Banana republic is a pejorative term originally used to refer to a country that is politically unstable, dependent on limited agriculture (e.g. bananas), and ruled by a small, self-elected, wealthy, and corrupt clique. …

Squeeker — debate the issues! Don‘t give the beckisnutser’s ammunition please!

Beckster — I do find in humorous that someone who is supposedly so anti-right spends so much of his/her time in a right leaning post site. I have a feeling you are really one of us but just can’t bring yourself to admit it.
