Dem Response to RNC‘s ’We Built This!’ Theme: No You Didn’t, You Destroyed it!

Ever since President Barack Obama gave his infamous “You Didn’t Build That” speech in Roanoke, Va., Republicans have seized on it as an opportunity to draw a contrast between the two parties’ economic philosophies.
Perhaps because they’ve become fed up with this line of attack, the Democratic National Committee on Tuesday punched back with an ad accusing Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney of being a job destroyer.
The ad begins with one of Team Obama’s favorite Romney quotes: “I like to be able to fire people that provide services to me.”
However, unlike President Obama’s “You Didn’t Build That” speech, once you dig into the context of what Romney was saying, this quote isn’t as damning as it sounds:
“I want individuals to have their own insurance. That means the insurance company will have an incentive to keep you healthy. It also means that if you don’t like what they do, you could fire them,” Romney said.
“I like being able to fire people who provide services to me. You know, if someone isn’t giving the good service, I want to say, I’m going to go get someone else to provide this service to,” he added.
As noted previously on TheBlaze, the former Massachusetts governor wasn’t talking about firing people for the fun of it. He was talking about people having the ability to get the best service for their money.
But why let that get in the way of a good ad?
“Mitt Romney will try to sell himself to the American people as a ‘Mr. Fix It’ who knows how to turn a business around. Of course, once you examine his record, it’s clear Mitt Romney knows less about turning businesses around and more about running them into the ground,” the ad’s YouTube page reads.
“Mitt Romney made millions of dollars bankrupting companies, shuttering factories, offshoring jobs and putting profits before people … Mitt Romney didn’t build that — he destroyed it,” it adds.
Exit Question: Is it just us or does the music in the ad seem inappropriately upbeat?

If, over the past 40 months, public sector employment had grown at the same pace as it did in President Bush’s first term, there would be 1.4 million additional people at work right now. That’d be enough to bring the unemployment rate down by nearly a full percentage point.
Obama increase in private employment from February 2010 – 106,773,000 jobs to May 2012 – 111,040,000 — an increase of 4,267,000 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The sad truth is that most people posting here lack the intellectual ability and courage to resist a popular movement, however pernicious and ill-considered.
