Dem Senate Campaign Committee Attacks Scott Brown on Abuse Revelation

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is circulating reports suggesting that Republican Sen. Scott Brown’s recent revelation of sexual abuse as a child is either a political stunt or a hypocritical move.

Politico’s Ben Smith reports that one such report appeared in a column written by the editor of one Rhode Island website:

Many have questioned how Brown could let a pedophile run free instead of stopping what could be a serial molester who may now have been at it for upwards of 40 years. Among the “believers” are many who are appalled that a U.S. senator would throw a literary grenade at a respected Christian summer camp and not disclose a name so that Cape officials can pursue the attacker and defend their reputation.

On the other side are alumni and friends of the camp who accuse the senator of fabricating the whole matter for political purposes – or at least to sell more books – leaving Camp Good News with a damaged reputation and no way to refute his accusations.

Neither story line is playing well with readers of CapeCodToday.com. Those who believe Brown’s story feel that his political career cannot survive his sheltering of the molester. Those who feel he fabricated the account feel he should step down from office if he is proven to have lied.

The DSCC has reportedly also circulated pieces by the Boston Globe‘s Glen Johnson and Joan Vennochi about Brown’s sexual abuse revelation, labeling Brown as hypocritical after endorsing Jeff Perry, a failed GOP congressional candidate who was accused of covering up a sexual abuse charge while he was a police officer.

“Democrats still find it hard to accept that Kennedy’s seat went to a Republican who brilliantly rechristened it ‘the people’s seat,’” Vennochi writes.  Now, Brown will be collecting new accolades for bravery… But it’s still fair to wonder: given his life story, why did he stand behind a man who allegedly stood by while a young girl was under assault?”

Brown has responded to the criticism, saying there is “no correlation’’ between his story and Perry’s case and it is “really inappropriate’’ to link them.

    Brown’s my senator and I no longer like him. Its very liberal here in MA and he‘s been getting it from all sides and I think he’s cracking. Not to say what happened to him isn’t true but there is more to this than what has come from his mouth.
    At the union rallies, the thugs were out and they were very abusive being investigated by police, but police are Unionized too.

    I have a pretty good read on people for the most part and I have to say I felt from the get go something was wrong with this guy.. I didn’t rejoice when he won his election like so many conservatives did even though it was a great pick up for us… I just felt something was and is off… I feel bad about seemingly to be piling on a sexual victim.. but something like that can really warp you and I think he’s warped…

    sure the progressive democrats are filthy hypocrites. saw him on 60 minutes and thought that he’s been co-opted…Barney Frank gives him props and then revealing his ‘victimology’ and then a book deal and all on a state-controlled media outlet.     Who gives a freak’n crap. Our country is in it‘s fight for it’s life. When we’re done with the Unions, time to hang the media for dissefecton. Read the Alien and Sedition Act. Same punishment as Treason or Sediton.

    I forgot, some jerkweed suspended the act by Exec order. Maybe that needs to be reviewed as well as Judicial review. Both actions are Unconstitutional by definition. The circumvent the will of the people and the role of the legislature. Why vote on anything anymore?

    This story is just plain weird, but isn’t everything concerning Democrats and their accusations. Sexual abuse as a child is not something that is easy to talk about and I‘ve heard it’s even harder for a man. Really I think it’s a hard subject for anyone, but this is between Scott, his abuser and God. Scott does have my prayers though.

      These people will stoop to any level to reach the means they want to be the USA. I can’t stand to even listen to them anymore. I hear all kinds of stuff being spouted, but you only have to watch the video from this mess in WS to know what is REALLY going on. They HATE us, they want us all to DIE..they keep saying it over and over. I don’t hear this crap from the right or the Tea Party. They just want EQUAL rights, Only to be heard and to have an equal say in this country to bring it back to what the “Founding Fathers” had in their minds…and this is certainly not it. I fear for our country, and if Glenn Beck is a conspiracy theorist then so be it, that is what the Bible says also. The only ones who don’t buy this, are ones who will also not believe what the Bible says. I am sorry for them all. I fear for my family, for my grandkids, and I can only say, “Lord come quickly”..I am watching and waiting for you. I fear however that we must all manage to survive the first 3 1/2 years of the Tribulation Period, before the Lord takes the Saved in Christ out of this world. Believe it or not, someone is going to have been right on this stuff. In my case, I believe that we all will have to live through a portion of it. There will be people saved during the time after, but they will be people who have not taken the mark, and they may very well have to die for it..a martyers (sp) death. God be with us all. God Bless the USA, but i fear we will not be, not with these people in control and dictating policy…

      What many non-New England supporters of Sen. Brown failed to realize at the time was that a Republican in New England is what Democrats were in the Pres. Kennedy era; Dems are now truly Progs with the exception of Bernie Sanders in VT who at least has had the honesty to come out of the fictious names closet and calls himself a Socialist. Sen. Brown is just like former Gov. Romney–how else could Romneycare have been inflicted on the people of MA–and God forbid that Romney shake out as the best Republican choice for 2012!

      I don’t believe Scott Brown has the right to bring up such a heinous allegation and then clam up about pursuing the pedophile for criminal charges. He’s the one that posed nude for some scag mag, wasn’t he?
      He needs to put up or shut up. If he’s psychologically damaged from the incident, he needs to step down or seek restorative help. It sounds a whole lot like a “cheap trick” for some sympathy votes, to me. JMHO

      My son is almost 42 years old and says he was molested by one of my brothers friends when he was about 8 years old. He still has not identified the perpetrator. If he did, I’d have pursued the matter to the bitter end, but he can’t remember details. He was young, he was a premmie baby, and some things he just doesn’t retain still to today. I was molested by my Dad’s best friend when I was 12 years old. I never told anyone, because I was afraid they would not believe me. Many years later, this same childless man attempted to get into bed with his adopted girl child of about 12 or 13 and his wife caught him, and divorced him. My Mother was told about this happening when I was grown and in my 30′s, my father NEVER knew. He’d have killed the man and ended in the pen long before he died at 61. But who was the man who came to see my Dad when he was dying,, and he had to be brought under oxygen in the back of a pickup truck to see him??? The man who was the one my Dad would have killed had he known. So many people are so quick to judge the reasons, the causes, but there must be a reason Scott Brown has not named the man. I have never told anyone about my molester, except for my husband and my Mother. My Mother said he was inappropriate with her also. i was just lucky that it didn’t go further. He never made it all the way with me. My son, is nondescript with his molestation…but he swears that no one will EVER mess with his sons, or with his nieces and live to be prosecuted for it.

      He possibly didn’t know his name or anything about him and people at the time might have just bl;own it off. When I was 5, I was abused by a slimeball, but he only masturbated in front of my brother and I, I don’t remember him touching us. I pointed him out to my older sisters and told them what he did, but they just laughed at me. I never knew the guy’s name or if it was even really the same guy I pointed out. The point is, if you haven’t walked in his shoes, you don’t really know.

      Well, yeah, sure. i would MOST DEFINATELY make up a horrific story, the most aweful and personal of human tragedy for political gain, especially if I were a House member in one of the most secure seats (I was a resident of Athens GA when he was elected) in the country! Instead of winning 55%-45%, I’d MUCH rather win by 60%-40% with a “story” like this!

Your tactics will come to bear soon enough, when you realize that more potential sheep are lost by stories like this than are gained, then all you have left is your precious “protests” where you try to convince, through media, that your failed cause is supported by “the majority” just like you tried in Wisconsin, and you realize that “We the People” voted your so called “dictators” in to do the bidding of WE THE PEOPLE and you lost.       Scott Brown SOLD OUT THE TEA PARTY ON FINANCIAL REFORM.

      I SUPPORT what the Governor of WI is doing, but I don’t support his alleged comments that he thought about sending in agent provocateurs to infiltrate the protests and stir up trouble. Those protestors have a 1st Amendment right like everybody else.

      I’m not here to judge the man, but as soon as I read that he was revealing this moment from his past a week or so ago I thought it was a *really* stupid move. It’s not that it makes him look weak that he was molested; what makes him look weak is a psychological need to tell everyone about it. Politicians do not do well with “Oprah moments.”

      I really think he needs some sort of counseling because this speaking out seemed compulsive and psychologically driven.

      You used to be a good “anti-Beck, Pro-tea party” type of poster with good opinions that set the story on a different path than what was posted, but you are becoming more “left’ sided. And you are starting to believe what you see on MSDNC it seems. How does that matter, even if it were true?       I disagree, first of all, back in those days there wasn’t the awareness in the general public like there is today (I’m a mandated reporter – meaning I’m required by law to report any suspected child abuse or neglect – they didn’t have those laws back then & sadly, it was seen as something to be ashamed of moreso than today). Secondly, some people don’t have full awareness that it happened or the details until they are much older. My husband has PTSD from the war & has recently started to address things he experienced during the invasion in 2003. This has brought up a LOT of childhood trauma that he’d repressed as a result of the abuse suffered while growing up in fostercare. While Scott Brown may have not been as conservative as Republicans would have liked (I, for one, feel this way about him), he’s still courageous for talking about this abuse, ESPECIALLY in the public arena. Maybe this is what he needs to heal..he doesn’t need to hear from the peanut gallery. Just a thought.

      I have read the accounts of many here who have known someone mollested or have been molested by others in some form or another; my uncle did the same, a fanatical muslum to the core, and in my case, the last time it happened I feared he was going to finish the job and my life when he cornered me in the kitchen, I did fight back, and wish to this day I had gelded him instead of just leaving a nice deep puncture in his gut.

      My condolences and prayers of peace are offered up to each and every one of you, and my fullest of understanding as well.

      Just because you got sexually molested and decided to air that in a public forum doesn’t make me a right wing whacko.

      It makes you a sadomasochist for opening old wounds and displaying them for the world to see, and the world DOESN’T WANT to see it.

      Let the wound heal and don’t go picking at it to open it back up and walk around showing folks like “Look at this! isn’t it nasty?”

      We don‘t want to see it and didn’t inquire of it.
