Dem. Socialist Cornel West Calls Obama a ‘Disastrous Response to a Catastrophe’ in Surprising Interview on the Presidential Field

While Cornel West, Princeton University professor and prominent member of the Democratic Socialists of America, once saw Obama as his “brother, companion and comrade,” the past year has seen a decided turn in his attitude.

After calling the president a “black mascot of Wall Street oligarchs and a black puppet of corporate plutocrats” last May, West is now forced to decide whom he will support in the upcoming presidential elections.
Asked his assessment, thus far, of the first Obama term, West responded: “The first three and a half years?” The Huffington Post reporter responded: “…don’t know if there will be a second– but first thus far.”
“Mitt Romney’s a catastrophic response to a catastrophe, whereas Obama is a disastrous response to a catastrophe,” Cornel West said.
“Is disaster better than catastrophe? Yes it is,” he said resignedly, before remarking, “I wish we had a third candidate who could actually do something, but we don’t at the moment.”
When asked by the reporter whether, then, West would be willing to declare his own candidacy, the professor responded:
“Oh s*it, no way that’s not my call. I’m too free, I want to tell the truth. Can you imagine a president telling the truth?”
He continued: “Oh no, the oligarchs and the plutocrats wouldn’t allow that in a minute, no brother. They‘re right now in the driver’s seat and, we gotta tell the truth about oligarchy and the tide of poverty…we have to just be willing to tell the truth and then bear witness and create some social movement and political pressure on the system. The system now is in deep trouble, foreign policy as well as domestic policy.”
He remarked, in conclusion: “[We have to] make sure there’s no right-wing take over of the White House, but the neo-liberals who are running things now are in many ways, morally bankrupt.”

Posted on May 2, 2012 at 9:50pmOBSERVATION – Having led troops in a combat zone I can tell you that there are 2 types of people in this world, those who bring attention to themselves by identifying problems and those who bring attention to themselves by coming up with solutions and solving problems. It only takes average intelligence and minimal effort to point out that the Titanic is sinking, it takes true character, courage and leadership to come up with a solution and execute it effectively. It isn’t hard to stir up anger in people an get them to rally around a cause, case in point the “Occupy” movement. They aren’t really doing anything constructive or coming up with any solutions they are just drawing a lot of attention to themselves and making the situation worse. History is kind to those who come up with solutions and solve problems. This is why I am not very impressed with “Community Organizers” like Barack Obama, Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson, they are very good at bringing peoples attention to crises and bringing honor and glory to themselves in the process but rarely if ever do they actually come up with any solutions. I see them as mere opportunists who “never let a crisis go to waste” Our country is in desperate need of men of character who can come up with solutions instead of just bringing attention to themselves and rallying people around a cause.

Obama is a known quantity — a COMPLETE AND UTTER disastrous President.
Romney, with some executive experience as governor of a state of the United States is leaps and abounds a better “response” than Obama ever was or will be.
