Dem State Rep Cracks Bad ‘White Sheets’ Joke Linking GOP to KKK

State representative Robert Brown, D, is under fire from Georgia Republicans after making a live on-air wisecrack that seemed to compare the GOP to the Ku Klux Klan.

During a Tuesday morning appearance on 13WMAZ’s Close-Up program, Brown suggested that a fellow Democratic legislator who recently switched to the Republican Party might need to keep his white sheets “for the midnight meeting.”

Sen. Alan Peake, the state’s senate minority leader, says Brown’s back-handed comments offended him. “If Sen. Brown was referring to me, or any of my Republican colleagues, or any party switchers, such as my good friend Bubber Epps, as having any association with the Ku Klux Klan, I find that very, very offensive and hope that he would apologize for such a vicious statement,” Peake said.

“I find the history and actions of the KKK to be reprehensible and to insinuate any connection with this organization is beyond belief. In fact, history tells us that the Republican Party was the anti-slavery party, and the Democratic Party was where the KKK was concentrated. So maybe Sen. Brown should check the historical facts, after he apologizes for his ridiculous accusation,” Peake said.

When asked if he’d like to retract or elaborate on his comment, Brown said he would “let the comment stand for what it is.”

“I think people are intelligent. They understand English. I don’t have to do an interpretation of that,” Brown said.

“I said what I wanted to say.”

Which Tea Party did you go to? Strange! The one I went to, in one of the whitest states in the country with second smallest population in the country, I saw all races there. Yes, it was predominately white, but so is he state. I suppose we could have bused in some folks from Spokane like the Unions do, to make it look nice and PC, but the fact is that the Tea Party is not all white.

@walkwithme1966- The tea party may be a majority white group but that is by black exclusion not white. Tea party is about less gov and more freedom and any person that feels that way is a tea party member. 90 plus percent of the black vote goes democrat regardless of the candidate so lets ask that 90 percent why they are against more freedom instead of asking the tea party why they are mostly white so far.

Once again our “democratic” “friends”, who are anything but democratic, find it necessary to sling mud and call out slanders because they have nothing but quicksand as a platform. Look at how their “leaders” act; ie. Rangel, Jackson, Jones, Sharpton, and oh yes, Obummer to name a few. Every time I see the prez in front of a crowd it feels like a civil rights rally, a support drive for restitution, or a camp meeting where I expect to see black faced minstrels to show any second. In this case, Mr. Brown should keep his racist oriented comments to himself and remove himself from further public service. Can you imagine the outcry if Sen. Peake told Brown to get his nappy head back to the plantation?

The Democratic party in the South after the Civil War was a bit like Hamas is today in Israel–or, pardon me, the “Palestinian territories”. The KKK was the militant wing of the Democratic party. The most racist presidents in our history (Andrew Johnson, Woodrow Wilson, Lyndon Johnson) have all been Democrats.

How do weather men predict future weather patterns? They predict them from studying past weather patterns, and design computer programs that can take past weather events and compare them to more recent weather patterns. After the computer program analyzes the current weather, the program then makes a suggestion for future weather patterns. That is what is presented to us on the evening news, a suggestion of the likely events that might happen in the near future. I believe people that study history can almost do the same thing, they can study current events and compare them to history and come up with a suggestion or a somewhat accurate scenario of coming events.
    >
    > Let’s first examine the attitude of the American populace today. To quote an article from the Pew Research web site (1) “By almost every conceivable measure Americans are less positive and more critical of government these days. A new Pew Research Center survey finds a perfect storm of conditions associated with distrust of government – a dismal economy, an unhappy public, bitter partisan-based backlash, and epic discontent with Congress and elected officials.” This poll found that 77% of the people polled are frustrated or angry with the government; also that only 19% are basically content with the government. This poll also found that 22% of the people polled trust the government. Breaking it down further, 69% has a negative view towards Congress compared to only 22% having a positive view of Congress. Breaking down the view of the Executive branch you get the following numbers, 10% excellent, 30% good, 28% fair, and 30% poor.
    >
    > According to the numbers above it is fair to say that the American people or somewhat at odds with its government. For example the Executive branch‘s challenge to the recently passed Arizona law that enabled officers to determine if a person that they stopped are here in America legally. Although numerous examples were provided to show that the law mirrored a federal law, federal authorities misconstrued it to be profiling, and thus struck it down. When we look at the Declaration of Independence we see an example of this (2)”He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing Importance, unless suspended in their Operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.”
    >
    > President Obama has appointed many czars to his cabinet. These advisors implement Obama’s policy on numerous aspects. By appointing czars, Obama did not have to seek Congressional approval for any of the 33 czars. Although appointing czars is not a new idea, in some cases it goes to show you how out of touch our government has become. For example if we again look at The Declaration of Independence we see that the colonist’s had a similar problem with the king,(2)“He has erected a Multitude of new Offices, and sent hither Swarms of Officers to harass our People, and eat out their Substance.” For example Todd, Stern’s appointment as the Climate Czar, if you believe in Global Warming this guy would be your best friend. But if you take my attitude towards Global Warming this guy’s ideas will drive you insane, all awhile being paid out of the taxpayer funded coffers, and accountable to nobody except for the like minded president.
    >
    > Let me pose a question, can a government represent its people if a majority of the governed opposes the actions of said government? As shown in the (1) Pew Poll, 77% of those people polled are angry or frustrated with the government. I believe, if that number translates over to the whole population, then the answer is no, the government does not represent the people. For example, it turns out that this new healthcare legislation is going to be a new tax that we are going to have to pay. To quote an article from Bloomberg (3) “Under the reconciliation bill that is now before the Senate, individuals who don’t purchase insurance would be subject to a fine of $325 in 2015 and $695 in 2016. Individuals may be subject to a charge equal to as much as 2.5 percent of their income in 2016, if the total is greater than the flat payment.” To tax, is to impose a financial charge or other levy upon a taxpayer by a state or the functional equivalent of a state such that failure to pay is punishable by law. If you believe the way I do, that for the government to represent the governed, than a majority of those people have to be in agreement with the government. Also if you believe that the majority of the population did not want the new healthcare, then you would also have to agree with me that we are being taxed without representation. Another example right out of The Declaration Of Independence, (2) “For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:.”
    >
    > (2) “But when a long Train of Abuses and Usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a Design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future Security.” There is a peaceful way to conduct a revolution (4) “But even Jefferson considered the election of 1800 a revolution –“as real a revolution in the principles of our government as that of 1776 was in its form.”” I find it very comforting that we the people have a voice in the way or government runs. Although not every person gets his/her way, we have an avenue to hold our elected officials feet to the fire. I sure hope we as a nation can endure these hard times we find ourselves in. I also hope we have another peaceful revolution come the second of November, at the ballet box.

CBS News and the New York Times surveyed 1,580 adults, including 881 self-identified Tea Party supporters, to get a snapshot of the Tea Party movement. There is a lot of information to unpack; let’s begin with the demographics.

Eighteen percent of Americans identify as Tea Party supporters. The vast majority of them — 89 percent — are white. Just one percent is black.

They tend to skew older: Three in four are 45 years old or older, including 29 percent who are 65 plus. They are also more likely to be men (59 percent) than women (41 percent).

Doggy and whitey need an education in reality. If either of you spent less time listening to messnbc and more time around true conservatives with an open mind…neither of you would make such ridiculous comments. The tea party is a group of patriots. They are color blind, honest, moral and sincere citizens who simply want the same reflection in their government. As far as the republicans go…they need work but are at least going in the right direction for the most part. Pray for the republic, its in danger and you won’t realize the absolute necessity of its survival until its gone…unless you step away from your lamestream media and learn and think for yourselves.

If these idiots can’t get past race in their analysis of the world around them, then they are just a distraction to the rest of us, including the Tea Party, that are trying to make this country financially strong again. Race is nothing more than a distraction from reality. Race is a myth created by the left to control everyone. If race were the defining factor, then how do many Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, and every other single race get successful. The answer is simple…hard work. If you work hard, you don’t have time for this kind of crap. I’m sure that one of these idiots will tell us that working hard is bad.

“Ethnic candidates rode the GOP /Tea Party wave on Tuesday, with Latinos and Indian-Americans capturing historic governorships (including Nevada’s Brian Sandoval, above) and two black Republicans heading to Congress for the first time since 1997.”

      FLORIDA/U.S. SENATE:
      MARCO RUBIO (Republican)

      FLORIDA/U.S. CONGRESS (22nd DISTRICT)
      ALLEN WEST, an African-American candidate

DAVID RIVERA, a Republican state lawmaker

      SOUTH CAROLINA/GOVERNOR
NIKKI HALEY, the daughter of a Sikh immigrants from India

      SOUTH CAROLINA/U.S. CONGRESS (1st DISTRICT)
TIM SCOTT, another black Tea Party candidate

      TEXAS/U.S. CONGRESS (17th DISTRICT)
BILL FLORES, a Republican former Houston oil executive

      NEW MEXICO/GOVERNOR
SUSANA MARTINEZ, a Republican district attorney from southern New Mexico

      NEVADA/GOVERNOR
BRIAN SANDOVAL, a Republican former Nevada attorney general

      WASHINGTON/U.S. CONGRESS (3rd DISTRICT)

Is there one democrat in Congress that has an ounce of class? I am beginning to think they are a ADHD and don’t know when to keep their mouths shut or think before they open them. Apparently “free speech” gives them license to say anything they please with no regard to the consequences. It’s really pathetic and tiresome when running the GOP in the ground is the only issue they seem versed on, besides running the country in the ground, which doesn’t seem to bother them.

Sen. Peake is right. KKK originated with the Democratic Party and it was the Democratic Party that was rabidly against desegregation.
LBJ, as Senate majority leader, strongly opposed desegregation bills that Eisenhower tried to pass. LBJ finally signed civil rights legislation when he was president. Maybe he saw a whole new voting group to bring into the Democratic fold.
Dems should have this slavery supporting history pointed out to them at every turn. Maybe eventually it will sink in.

Here’s an example of liberal manipulation:
      *Pres. Clinton passes DADT
*Pres. Clinton signs the Defense of Marriage act.
      *Court rules DADT unconstitutional
*Joint Chiefs prep recruiters to allow gays into military
*Pres. Obama administration asks court not to enact/enforce there decision yet
      *DADT starts in appeals court
*Again Pres. Obama administration asks courts not to do anything with DADT
*The gay Log Cabin Republican group petitioned the Supreme Court to hear the DADT case
*Again Pres. Obama administration asks courts not to do anything with DADT
*** WHY *** Because Pres. Obama wants to make a political show of this and stick a feather in his cap.
*He’s not interested in the people, he only wants to tag them along for a voting base.

NOW Look a the repeal of Proposition 8 in California. The lead person fighting to over turn Prop 8, is a Republican lawyer. A Republican lawyer that represented G W Bush in the Bush/Gore election case in 2000. Personally I don‘t care if it’s Civil Unions or just Legal documents supporting our finances and living wills. I don’t need marriage (a legal business contract between two people) to live my life and be happy. (Yes religious ceremonies brings more meaning and blessings to marriage, however as long as the government issues licenses, religion has little to do with a business arrangement between two people)

Unfortunately it took me most of my liberal life to do some fact checking and see that Republicans have always lead the fight to support freedoms, end discrimination and ensure liberties.

But of course…because we all know BLACKS can’t be racists. OH no!…Why they are the oppressed minority that just wants to be heard or needs a leg up. What ever happened to judging by the content of character and not the color of skin for all of you BLACKS. It cuts both ways you know. I think the WHITE congressman should have given a backhanded comment to the BLACK congressman referencing the BLACK PANTHERS, Hey if you are going to dish it out you better be ready to take it. As far as I am concerned everytime the BLACKS in this country establish a SEPARATE organization for themselves the WHITES should do the same i.e Congressional Black Caucus vs. the Congressional White Caucus…We put an end to segregation in this country years ago. And at every turn BLACKS are bringing it back. Why Cobra you are a racist, hate, monger! Ansolutely not…but enough is enough. People in this country have bent over backwards for equal rights for blacks and other minorities (but especially for blacks) and it is never enough. So you want to make everything about race. “There is a reason that the majority of Blacks and Hispanics are 90% Democrat.” Where do you get this stupid phoney percentages. Just because the criminal aiding hispanic groups claim to speak for all hispanics does not make the majority just like them.

The Republicans cater to the wealthy. Plain and simple. – While the Republican elitists may cater to the wealthy (the Democrat elitists cater to them just as much). The conservatives cater to less government intrusion, to freedom (individually and for all) and for the RIGHT for anyone that works for the money they have – they have the RIGHT to keep it for themselves. The elitists and the democrats over all only believe in taking away our freedoms, our rights and their belief that they have the right to steal our money and give it to others who are too lazy to work for it themselves.
The Tea Party being all white doesn’t help the Republican party – This statement in itself shows the stupidy and arrogance of a “freedom stealer” ie: a liberal democrat progressive that chooses to put on blinders and see only what they want to see, while ignoring the truth and facts which they consider an evil to be done away with. If you dislike truth, freedom, liberty and all the good things that our founding fathers (and all of our soldiers) fought and died for to protect, why don’t you go to one of the communist countries that you would feel so comfortable in and live there? Yes, you have the right to stay here and live free if you choose (that is why the Tea Party exists, to help you have that right).

      @ you libs trolls

and Walkwithme1966 (of whom I am fond though I often find myself disagreeing with you)

I am not sure how the demographic of the party is the party’s fault. It’s folly to draw conclusions that way. The Tea Party does not have a “No non-whites” stipulation. It is one’s own decision. It is our freedom to choose. Even in the study that was cited, it’s determined Tea Partiers based on how one identified himself. It is not the 89% whites fault that there are not more Black or Hispanic self-identified Tea Partiers. John Stuart pointed this out the folly of the demographics of a crowd at his predominantly white rally.

Look at the Tea Party platform and explain to me what is anti “non-white” about it? Limit government, cut deficit spending, balance budget, adhere to the law of the land.(United States Constitution).

Agreeing with those sentiments is no more racist than disagreeing with them. For the record while I simply refer to myself as American, progressives would label me Hispanic-American. My girlfriend is a lovely caramel colored Hispanic-American. We both grew up in “the hood.” Yet the themes of the Tea Party resonated with us as we have always been big on our freedoms. We chose to identify ourselves with the Tea Party. We even went to the 8-28 Rally. Yes, the majority of those that attended were white. The hundreds with whom we interacted personally were courteous and respectul. I never once felt like my girlfriend or I were in danger, or unwanted. We were embraced as much as anyone else.

Also, Walkwithme, I see that you can often be reasonable. Unlike Dawg and White Tea, you don’t strike me as a troll/antagonizer. I am pretty surprised and disappointed that you would echo that narrative. You do yourselves a disservice sticking to that narrative.

Whitenonsense, The Tea Party has no interest in helping either the Republicans or Democrats. A lot of establishment republicans are progressives who take the route to bigger government. A liberal in an elephant costume. This is why government has grown and our state of freedom has regressed the way it has. We have no one pulling us back to the right and balancing this out. Both parties bring our country to the left (bigger government) and there are not enough on the right pulling back the other way. And you may want to make the distinction between being “for the wealthy” and being “for wealth”.

No, the main item keeping minorities out of the tea party, is more in line with the unfounfed narrative that the Tea Party is racist and only has white interests in mind. The narrative that was propogated by the likes of .. well just about everyone but Fox. And with all the scrutiny and baseless accusations, the only instance that can be pointed out is the wacko that was yead of TP Express. He was quickly denounced and the entire organization cut-off for not having denounced him earlier. As more time wore on and no damnable evidence presented itself (EVEN UNDER SUCH SCRUTINY), the media just gave up on the labeling and we hear it less and less. The only other thing that would keep from identifying with the Tea Party is a genuine disagreement with our ideals.

Interestingly, the tea party candidates and republican candidates in general were much more culturally and racially diverse than the democratic candidates. But let’s just pay attention to Tea party demographics and use THOSE figures to make unfounded claims.

To quote Jet Political Columnist/Blogger Sophia A Neslon’s article, “Battle on the Hill,” in the November 22, 2010 edition of Jet, “Ironically, despite claims that the GOP leadership has been hijacked by a bunch of angry White conservatives, the Republican Party of 2010, in fact, represents a very diverse tent. The GOP elected two Black men from the south the the House of Representatives, a Latina woman to governor in New Mexico and the first African-American woman as lieutenant governor of Florida.” That was not copy/pasted but typed in as I read/typed from my actual Jet magazine so please forgive any mispellings or typoes.

      To the trolls,
I just have to ask, what on earth compels a person to log onto a site they clearly find offensive and waste their precious time injecting hate-filled comments? Typically when someone disagrees with something they tend to steer clear of it, not immerse themselves in it. How much do they pay you to be an activist? Are you paid by the word or by the post? Do you work for more than one “organization”? Are the hours good? Do they give you free health care? When they are through with you, can you collect unemployment?

To “White Tea Party”: Republicans support the US Constitution, as well as the Declaration of Independence. Those ideas are the origin of the American Dream. Those that strive to do it well are successful. Successful can bring wealth. I’m far from wealthy. You think we switch parties depending on how much we have in the bank? It’s a matter of principles, loyalty, patriotism. We go to church. All because it is THE RIGHT THING TO DO. America is a REPUBLIC, we are REPUBLICANS.
The signers of the Constitution made this a REPUBLIC, because they said a DEMOCRACY WAS WORSE THAN ANARCHY. Don’t believe me. Look it up. They knew over 200 years ago. that DEMOCRATS WERE WHINERS THEN, AND THEY’RE STILL WHINERS TODAY.

They have to keep perpetuating the lies about the KKK and Republicans. They don’t want un-educated minorities to find out the truth. The truth that the Democrats started and supported the KKK right after the Civil War. Has everyone forgotten that it was a white Republican President that gave his life to free the slaves? Along with thousands of Republican soldiers. And they have taken credit for the Civil Rights Act when it was Eisenhower, (a white Republican), who tried to pass it sooner but was stopped by the Dems. Later when Johnson was president he signed on to it after voting no on it in the senate under Eisenhower. So Johnson and Dems get the credit when it was a Republican bill in the first place.

      Historian Eric Foner observed:

“In effect, the Klan was a military force serving the interests of the Democratic party, the planter class, and all those who desired restoration of white supremacy. Its purposes were political, but political in the broadest sense, for it sought to affect power relations, both public and private, throughout Southern society. It aimed to reverse the interlocking changes sweeping over the South during Reconstruction: to destroy the Republican party’s infrastructure, undermine the Reconstruction state, reestablish control of the black labor force, and restore racial subordination in every aspect of Southern life.”

Progressives think it’s a “right” for every black kid in America to have a computer and internet access.
If they make that happen, they may be cutting their own throat since I only had to click 3 times to read the truth. Even from a liberal outfit like wikipedia!

Thank God that excludes this racist Rep. from being a Republican.
@ WHITETEAPARTY- I am a Tea Party supporter and I am Hispanic… whoops.. there went your theory.
I’m guessing that anyone who opposes a Dem who happens to be half white and half black is automatically racist? Is that your intellectual conclusion?
We oppose Obama and his minions for simple reasons.
      1. Obama added a cool $2 Trillion more to our deficit in just 421 days.
      2. Instead of focusing on the pressing issues like economy and getting the American people out of debt he has concentrated hard on Healthcare, vacations, golfing, and bidding for the Olympics. That’s 10 Vacations (11 if your count his lavishly expensive $200 million per day trip to Asia for ten days).
Last time I checked… the way to get out of debt is to stop spending.
Last time I checked.. those “evil” rich people are the ones that can afford to employ people. But I guess in your twisted world, the government knows how to spend YOUR money better than YOU.

The reason that the majority of the hispanics and blacks vote democrat, is because they are looking for that government check. A large number of white people are doing the same thing. The tea party is NOT all white people, and have a growing number of minority members because these are hard working Americans. People who believe in being self sufficient, and don’t look to anyone else to provide for them. There are a large number of blacks and hispanics out there like that also. I would be totally offended if I were a black or hispanic and were told I was stupid for being a member of the tea party or a republican. I am of American Indian decent. Enough in fact, that my family could claim indian rights. They did NOT. The reason, because if they did, then the government had control over their lives. They could take their children, put them in government schools, take away their heritage, and my family would not accept this way of life. They believed in making it on their own. Never took a dime of welfare or food stamps…medical aide?? What’s that? Never did we have medical insurance growing up. My mother and I worked in the fields all one summer and fall to pay for my little brothers tonsil operation. I was 12. These people just make me sick! Never worked a real day in their lives, and then try to claim others are “racists” and “stupid”….Disgusting is all I can say.

This guy needs to learn some history. Which party did the 1st black congressman belong to?
Which president was responsible for the writing the civil rights act? Which congressman blocked the passage of that act. Which bigoted president had to sign it into law. The answer to the last 2 questions is the same. Which party was almost synonomous with KKK in the late 1800′s? If he‘s honest intelectually he’ll find the answers on his own. If not, he will continue to be the bigot he is.

You’ve got 1 warped head, “whiteteaparty”. Go back to “Mediamatters”, where your kind belongs.

Dem’s cater to handouts, Republicans cater to the “Working” class. I’ve had enough of you progressives screaming “racist” every time you don’t like opposition.
