Dem Strategist Attacks Ann Romney as A Stay-At-Home Mom: ‘Never Worked a Day in Her Life’

Imagine the outrage if a Republican strategist referred to a stay-at-home mom by saying that she was someone who “never worked a day in her life.” How about a mother of five?

A Republican strategist did not say that. But a Democrat did… and it was a female, Democrat strategist named Hilary Rosen. And, as reported by several news outlets, according to the White House visitor logs, Ms. Rosen has stopped by 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue 35 times. National Review’s Jim Geraghty also points out that CIA Director, General David Petraeus has only managed nine visits.

During an appearance on Anderson Cooper’s “AC360” last night, Hilary Rosen (also a CNN regular contributor) made the offensive comment about Mitt Romney’s wife Ann when she told Anderson:

“His wife has actually never worked a day in her life. She’s never really dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of the women in this country are facing in terms of how do we feed our kids, how do we send them to school and how do we . . .  why we worry about their future.”

(The quote kicks in at the :40 second mark of this clip:)

That comment immediately began bouncing around the social media network and actually inspired Ann Romney’s first (and currently only) tweet on Twitter.Hilary Rosen, Democratic Strategist Attacks Mitt Romneys WifeAs you might expect, Hilary Rosen was bombarded with messages on Twitter. She quickly scrambled to try and blunt the attacks by tweeting the following:

Hilary Rosen, Democratic Strategist Attacks Mitt Romneys WifeThat comment seemed to get a “nice try, but…” And so, Rosen continued:

Hilary Rosen, Democratic Strategist Attacks Mitt Romneys Wife

It took about an hour, but the Obama campaign realized that Rosen’s comments, and the fact that she is not really backing down from her statement, could be a problem — especially since it doesn’t fit the narrative that the Republicans have waged a “war on women.” Campaign manager Jim Messina jumped into the tweet storm:

Hilary Rosen, Democratic Strategist Attacks Mitt Romneys Wife

Another Obama lieutenant, David Axelrod also posted his denouncement of Rosen’s gaffe:

Hilary Rosen, Democratic Strategist Attacks Mitt Romneys Wife

About the same time that Axelrod and Messina’s tweets appeared, so did one from a female member of the Obama campaign, Stephanie Cutter:

Hilary Rosen, Democratic Strategist Attacks Mitt Romneys WifeAs Democrats moved to distance themselves from Ms. Rosen’s comment, a member of the Romney family jumped in to support mom. Here’s the tweet from Josh Romney:

Hilary Rosen, Democratic Strategist Attacks Mitt Romneys Wife

As Mother’s Day approaches, the worth of  ’Stay At Home Moms” is a regular topic on news channels. Each year we learn just how much money mom should be earning for performing all of the tasks involved with raising children. Last year, Salary.com claimed that moms work would be worth $90,000 a year. Five years ago, CNN and ABC both did stories quoting the results of a survey that claimed stay-at-home moms worked 92 hours a week and the work they do should bring in $138,000 a year.

Was Hilary Rosen’s comment about Ann Romney “over the line?” Share your thoughts on working moms and participate in our Blaze poll.

Work Isn’t Work Unless Democrats Can Tax It right Hilary?
Hilary who raises YOUR children when you are out lobbing DC do tell us what do you think about the people who stay home and RAISE YOUR CHILDREN? Do you pay them? If so why? If it’s not a job?

Maybe Hilary Rosen should lobby Obama to pay his FEMALE staffers the same amount the men staffers get? Hilary why don’t you start at the top of the Democratic dung heap with Obama
Females under Obama make 18% LESS than the men do … in the OBAMA WHITE HOUSE

Actually any mom who can afford to stay at home I envy. That “IS” the way a family “IS” supposed to be. “Working moms” leave the kids at home. A higher percentage of those kids get into trouble, use social ‘benefits’ or other programs that increase demand for bigger government.

Stay at home Mom is one of the toughest jobs in America when done right.

The reason we have so many knuckle heads and OWS types, is that women in America stopped raising good kids. They are raised by MTV and the public schools.

Some moms have to work, and I am not putting them down. I am lucky to have a wife that is a devoted mother. She homeschooled for three years, and now my girls are top of their classes in christian private school.

Since Rosen broke up with her female partner in 2005, who has been raising their two children? Somehow, I think the Romney’s children have had a better childhood. Sorry, I just can’t picture the kids bringing another kid home from school and say this is my mommy and over here is my mommy too. I hope she voices a lot more of this strategy. Hopefully, it will help swing most clear thinking women away from Obozo.

Farcical!!!! Don’t these liberals get it that a majority of women are sick of the working mother lifestyle?
Here’s a challenge for the liberals – Get a reputable company to do an extensive survey asking working women of teenagers if being a working mother was worth it. Have you ever noticed no one ever asks these questions in opinion polls? All of the working mothers I’ve seen are sick and tired (as they should be) of being asked to do two jobs at once. Any of you remember the women’s lib hype about how all women were destined to become astronauts, presidents and CEO’s? It was only evil men who kept them out these jobs. Well, where are the women in great numbers filling all of the so-called male jobs? From what I see, most working mothers are stuck in low paying, drudge jobs. They are always exhausted and stressed out because no one can serve two masters. Women were much better off when couples got married and stayed married and if women wanted to – they were allowed by society to stay at home and take care of their family. With people living so long, there is plenty of time in life to raise a family and then go have a glorious career. The libs are trying to make women jealous, but I hope they start a national discussion of why women and children are so worse off now than they were years ago. Let’s get a world wide discussion going to see if women do believe the liberation movement has fulfilled its promise.

I am not defending the women statements, but I think she was referring to holding a job outside of the home. Stay at home moms are not the Leave it to Beaver June Cleaver fictional moms that wear aprons and dust and vacuum 5 times a day. They are more like going to the gym, meeting other “hard working” moms at the coffee shop showing off their Bob strollers stay at home moms. Their idea of a healthy lunch is taking the kids to McDonald’s and having them play in the Mc Happy House.

Now of course Ms. Romney was/is not that type of stay at home mom. She is a Mormon and was probably raised to be submissive to their man. I am also married to an ex-Mormon and she supports this ideology to an extent. That said, most Mormon women are college educated; they are true supporters of the family unit, and they do a lot more than many think including canning, tailoring, and other important types of survival techniques that seem only important to today’s modern preppers.

I would say that Ms. Romney is 10x the woman of this libstupid writer. As a matter of fact, I would say that she would make a fantastic first lady — probably one of the best.

And just what is wrong with June Cleaver? Clearly the children that were raised in the 50s and 60s were not perfect (See Bill Clinton and most of the leftist that have too much influence today) but that is more of function of the destruction of the family that was occurring all around them at the time not a because of the families that were remaining intact. My wife and I made the decision before we were married that when we had children, the real work would begin. While she does not wear a dress and pearls every day, it is quite often that the kids do come home to a plate fresh cookies and milk. My wife has advanced engineering degrees and probably could demand more pay than I do if she had stayed in industry. When we had our first child, she was earning more than I was.

Its a damn shame that she was not working and earning the extra income to support the family unit. I have no problem with June Cleaver. I was simply pointing out that times had changed and many “stay at home moms” are not true “stay at home moms”. My wife is a chemical engineer, and I work in IT as a CIO we have kids, and we both work. My one son goes to a christian day care and the other is in private school. Something we would not have been able to do without two professional incomes. I find this to be more important than to struggle like my parents did and just live on one income. It is important to understand that I do not demonize stay at home moms or dads for that matter as long as they are stay at home moms and it does not infringe on supporting the family unit financially. If you can afford it and it is not a burden on the family and/or infringes on the tax payer via subsidies go for it. I personally support the idea of two incomes and a higher education and/or trade skill that can pay the bills and supply a money cushion in case someone gets laid off or loses their job.

We make enough money that one could stay home, but we both love our careers and the finical comfort that it provides. My kids will never be left out of anything due to financial constraints. Furthermore, my kids will not get a free pass and will be paying for their own higher education and other items just like we did. We the parents will never forget were we came from — poor famil

God bless Mrs. Romney for making the decision to be her kids’ mom. I work two part time jobs, but I’m home in the mornings to see my kids off to school, and I’m waiting at home for my kids when they get off the bus. I help them with their homework, and I take them to their after-school activities.

The dems could learn a thing or two from those stay-at-home moms who have to live on a budget and handle multiple tasks at one time. THAT’s a job. When I go into my PT jobs, I’ve got it easy compared to what I do at home with the kids.

I’ve read your entire thread and hear a real condecending attitude towards women not meeting your standards of education and performance. We have been schooled to think that having a certificate from an institution of “higher” learning is proof we are smarter and work harder than those that don’t have that certificate. My answer to that is, try running a ranch, working self-employed jobs with your children, schooling your children and supporting the fact that your husband and partner in all this works two jobs to make sure your children lack for nothing. Listening to someone like you that cannot see that any other situation other than the one you are setting up is not as hard as yours is offensive. Money is NOT the magic cure to making sure your children are raised right. Again, the demeaning of a woman that does not get a degree and go to work at a job as defined by a biased society is alive and well in our popular view of current thinking.

You’re entitled to your opinion, but I have actually been an engineer with multimilllion dollar projects with scores of people to supervise, albeit not as big of projects as you apparently headed. Before being an engineer, I worked IT for small companies, dug ditches in construction, mowed lawns and pulled weeds for landscaping and performed various other manual labor jobs to pay my way through college.

Maybe I’ve just had it easy by your measure, but, I took a paycut so I could consult from home and become a stay at home dad because I didn’t want strangers to raise my child. (My wife makes more than me so she stayed at her job.) Maybe it is because child rearing isn’t exactly in my wheelhouse, but I have to say, while it isn‘t necessarily more difficult than other stuff I’ve done, it is no less demanding and requires much more finesse, patience and perseverance than I’ve ever expected of myself or employees.

You can claim it isn’t as hard, but by my measure, while it doesn’t necessarily draw on my normal work skill set, it requires a lot from a whole other set of skills that are harder to pull from in my experience. Sure you get your micro-dose of this between the time you get home from work and send the kids to bed, but it is a whole other story to be a constant mentor to your children. If it was so easy, why would you even pay for daycare?

      Just my 2 cents.

Very strange how Democrats denigrate homemakers for managing a household and raising children yet Democrats turn around and encourage folks to stay at home, sit on the couch, and only brush off the cheetos dust when the monthly bit of socialism arrives in the mail. Its like Democrats consider you worthless unless you truly are a leech on the system.

I went from stay at home mom .. to HAVING to work .. and I can tell you it was B’s like this woman that treated me like dirt for having the NERVE to have stayed home … while being a stay at home mom I often picked up and/or cared for other kids who’s mom worked .. often when they were sick. My family had home cooked from scatch meals (saving money) I did the yard work .. all the cleaning (amazing how many of these working moms have people come in to clean for them and never cook a meal .. some actually “bragged” that they didn’t cook .. and didn’t know how) I was an accountant, financial planner, cook, seamstress, practically ran a laundry, taxi service, educator, EMT, gardener, etc .. all under the “title” of stay at home mom.

I’d just like somebody to tell me where there is a more noble, honorable and important job than a woman raising her children and keeping the home in order. My description of the job is only nine words but to cover everything involved in it would take a sizable book.

It always upsets me when someone speaks of the most important job in the world as if it were some kind of a menial position.

Maybe you think all the works churches do just “happens” It doesn’t. I think people should look a bit further, they will find her charitable works immense. Isn’t it about doing what we want as women? I am very sure her education hasen’t been “wasted”. How nice for her she could have the chance to do so. That is the American dream.

Typical democratic left wing , say something ugly and then back out as fast as you can . If you look at history communists and socialists tended to destroy women first because they know the inherent strength of the “mother” instinct . The so called “stay at home ” women work 24 – 7. Because I know I am happily married to one and I tell do not ever get in between her and her children and grand children EVER, even after 37 years there are times I play second fiddle! Communists make woman equal only when the are willing to give up their children that is why most of them are single angry personalities in the first place just look at Hilary (Hilarious, my nick name, she has no conjones0 She is starting to look very unappetizing as the days go by and no-one pays any attention anymore as far as her Office is concerned.

You know, there are many women out there, like myself, who have sacrificed so that we can stay home raising our children. We do this because we believe that it’s our personal responsibility to raise the children we bring into this world into good, responsible people who can in turn raise their own families and bless their communities. We consider this to be the most important work of our lives.

There are many of us out here who would like to be able to stay home with our kids but can’t because the economy is awful. There are many of us out here who have had to enter the work force because our husbands have lost their jobs. There are many of us out here who have both husband and wife working minimum wage jobs in order to keep food on the table and our electricity bill paid–people like my parents who used to be solidly middle class but who are barely hanging in there. My dad‘s job isn’t counted in the unemployment numbers because he’s given up looking for the kind of work he used to have.

Hilary Rosen you are the one who has no clue. And you can‘t tell me Axelrod and Messina weren’t for what Rosen said until Twitter made them be against it.

ARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!! This kind of talk just infuriates me! Leftist don’t want “choices” for women they want us to toe a party line. Free s3x in our teens and twentys while having multiple abortions followed by graduating college and getting a “good job” and paying someone else to watch our kids for 50 hours per week. Well NO!! I CHOSE to stay home since the birth of my oldest (almost 27 years ago, we have 6 with the youngest only 5yo) and my choice is just as valid and those who chose to continue working after the birth of their children. And trust me the economic realities of staying home with the children and living on one income are just as tough (or tougher) than the financial implications of having to worry about daycare and losing your job if you end up taking too much time off when your kids need you.

as always the media jumps on sensationalism. this was not about the fact she had not worked outside of the home or that her work in the home is not difficult or important. she was making a statement that mitt romney can not make his policy on the advice of his wife as she is not qualified to do so.and secondly she was trying to bring in the fact that under mitt romney women right my go backwards instead of forward. they need to get of rosen’s back. both of my daughters are stay at home moms and it is a BIG job. thirdly i think Ms. Romney was just trying to inform her husband that women are very concerned about the economy especially if they are single parents

Oh no. We know what Rosen was trying to say. She was going for a “two-fer.” She was trying to say that because Romney is wealthy, he could keep little Ann at home as a “kept woman” who never had to work a day in her life.

So the reality is it was yet another attack on people who are wealthy, while attacking Ann as “out of touch” because she stayed at home.

Yes it’s a war on women. Trying to force women to do with their bodies what you wish them to do is not a war on women, saying women shouldn’t work or pursue a higher education (Santorum) isn’t a war on women, but Hilary Rosen pointing out that Ann Romney, as a woman who has never worked an actual JOB in her life, is not exactly qualified to speak on behalf of struggling working mothers, yes, that’s a war on women.
