DeMint: ‘I’d Rather Lose Fighting for the Right Cause’

With Christine O‘Donnell’s victory in the Delaware GOP senate primary Tuesday evening, South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint once again proved himself as a formidable conservative force within the Republican Party. DeMint, along with former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, endorsed O’Donnell in the days leading up to the primary, much to the chagrin of party leadership who backed Mike Castle’s campaign.
One day after O‘Donnell’s victory, DeMint is celebrating a victory for conservatives. ABC News’ Jonathan Karl reports:
I asked Senator DeMint if he’ll have any regrets if come November 3rd he realizes Republicans blew their chance at winning a majority because some of the candidates he supported lost.
“No. I’ve been in the majority with Republicans who didn’t have principles and we embarrassed ourselves and lost credibility in front of the country. Frankly, I’m at a point where I’d rather lose fighting for the right cause then win fighting for the wrong cause,” he told me.
And when St. Petersburg Times‘ Alex Leary asked the senator whether tea party-backed candidates may actually hurt the GOP’s chances of taking over Congress, DeMint replied:
“The GOP would not have a chance to take the majority in the House or the Senate if it weren’t for the tea party. To think that we could be where we are if we had Arlen Specter and Charlie Crist leading our ticket is just foolishness.”

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 5:47pmDeMint is right on. The reason Republicans lost in 2006 and 2008 is because they tried to become dems and “get along’. The conservative base didn’t turn out and America lost. Run as a Conservative and you will win. The primaries in both parties prove it and it will allow the citizens to stop the marxists currently running the show. The democrat congress has had 4 years to screw us. It’s time to get a political abortion.

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 5:45pmI like what you said Mr Demint. but you‘ll forgive me if I’m in the ‘wait and see’ category. I’ve been disappointed before. Even as a Car salesman my profession has less of a reputation for lying than a politician. I currently remain optimistically skeptical. I am waiting to hear about the goals you and your team-mates (incumbents and tea party initiates alike) have for shrinking government, reducing the debt, and reducing or eliminating the need for entitlements. And I wouldn’t mind seeing it in writing. respectfully…

This is Jim DeMint’s website. He has a conservative checklist that all his “people” must live up to. For example, even though he knew Scott Brown would win, he wouldn’t officially endorse him. He didn’t measure up.

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 7:50pmYou could just vote for the democrats since we only have 2 choices most of the time? Don’t wait and see too long even a good ege has to hatch someday. DeMint is one of the few good conservatives that is already in DC. Go to his website and check out his conservatives fund if you truely want to make a difference. Do not give conservative money to the GOP party ever. They will use it to give you Lindsey Graham and withhold it from any non party cultivated conservatives.

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 10:17pmWait and see is not a good strategy! Instead do your home work. DeMint is a conservative through and through. It is surprising that this article is the first time many are having their eyes opened to DeMint.

All supported candidates are for small govt, etc and most if NOT all are Tea Party candidates. You can donate $50 and let them decide how to allocate it or you can indicate it all for one candidate or any set of candidates. That is a pwerfect example of the free enterprise in practice. I”m left in charge. PLEASE DIRECT AT LEAST SOME OF YOUR LIMITED $S TO dEmINT’S pac.

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 5:07pmI met this man at a Ken Buck rally and learned an important fact. You can find on DeMint’s website a conservatives fund to donate too. He uses this fund to back strict Constitutionalist and TP members. They always monitor where the money will be most effective, Angle, Rand, Buck , O’Donnell. It is the single best place if you want to use your $ to get behind building a colilition of like minded folkes to put the brakes on this out of control government……COME ON AND GIVE DEMINT SOME FREINDS

Well, I think the fun is just starting! Time to change things up! I live in upstate NY, and Carl Paladino is just what this state needs, not more of the same with Andrew Cuomo! Posted on September 16, 2010 at 12:39amVegasGuy,
You need to do a bit more research before you speak. DeMint didn’t have to have a “come to Jesus moment.” He has always been this way. The man is very principled and isn’t afraid to stand up for them. He is my senator BTW. He promised he would serve no more than two terms in the House, and he kept that word. He said he would serve no more than two terms in the Senate and has stated that he will not run for re-election in 2016 (he is up for re-election this cycle, so it will be his last term in office and I believe he will stay true to his word).
He has never voted for earmarks, voted against the Tarp bill, the stimulus, etc, etc. We need more like him in congress (both houses), and he is trying to help make that happen.
