Democratic Rep. Gwen Moore Claims Victimizing Women is as American as Apple Pie

Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.) called the victimization of women "as American as apple pie."

A Democratic congresswoman claimed this week that victimizing women is practically a right of passage in the United States, and that doing so is even “as American as apple pie.”

Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.), a victim of abuse herself, was recounting her reasoning for voting against the “fake” Violence Against Women Act reauthorization during a call in to Current TV’s “Talking Liberally with Stephanie Miller.”

“Victimization of women is as American as apple pie. I think people accept it and men’s right [of] passage, men’s rights as boyfriends and husbands,” Moore said.

First passed in 1994, the act has been reauthorized twice with little controversy. This time, however, the process has stalled after the Senate passed a version with added protections for gays, lesbians and transgender people; the authority for tribal courts to prosecute non-Indians for domestic violence that occurs on reservations; and an increase in the number of visas for illegal immigrant women who are the victims of abuse.

The House of Representatives passed its own narrower version of the bill without those expanded protections, earning a veto threat from President Barack Obama. The Senate and the House have both essentially refused to consider the other chamber’s version; the House has cited the fees associated with the immigrant visas, while the Senate has sought to paint the House as engaging in the “war on women” by not expanding the act’s provisions.

Moore called the House’s bill “very, very frightening” and told the story of her own rape, in which she said a young man came by her house to take her out and ended up raping and nearly choking her to death.

      V.P. Biden recently called violence against women, “the very worst abuse.” The very worst abuse is valuing one life less than another for having been born the wrong sex, or the wrong age. Under Biden’s Violence Against Women Act the wrong sex is men and the wrong age group is children. Shelter and services are virtually non-existent for male victims of domestic violence (and in some cases men and their children) so those options out of a bad relationship, that are routinely available to women, are very often not available to men.       I would like to point out that the Rap music culture celebrates the demeaning of women along with the gang culture, which is totally acceptable to a large portion of the American population – and not just the GOP.

I don’t see one Republican or conservative name on my list. If that’s what the culture celebrates and approves by buying music and going to concerts, actions have consequences.       Time- I can research, too- I can even count. Plenty of blame for both parties to go around for the bills you listed, but your focus is clearly one-sided. You may recall the votes were pretty bi-partisan, it is the interpretation and execution that has become the resulting issue. Choices have consequences- but you only seem focused on the consequences for only one party. Your comments are also somewhat inconsistent- likely, you are planting these barbed comments to create conflict, and encourage angry statements that can be used to make sites like the blaze look bad. I would encourage everyone to stop responding to this individual who seems to thrive on the attention, as they will likely not engage in reasoned discourse or debate, just continue to aggrivate and aggitiate.     Why is Congress wasting time on a bill against violence? Don’t we already have laws against violence? There are so many more important things that Congress (especially the Senate) should be working on, such as passing a budget, impeaching Obama on all the un-Constitutional things he has done, and raising a stink about the upcoming Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) – which will be irrevocable if passed.

      Unfortunately, they have been indoctrinated from an early age that they are victims of white people, the government, their sex. Further, they have had it inculcated that nothing is ever their fault and they have no need to take responsibility for their actions or inactions. Want to have unprotected sex? Go ahead and if you become pregnant the government will provide. Don‘t take responsibility because it is the government’s fault that you weren’t educated in how to avoid pregnancy. If you get sick because of it, the government will provide your medication. You have no place to live with your newborn child, don’t worry, the government will provide your housing, furniture, pay your bills, etc.
      As President Reagan said, “Government is NOT the answer, it is the problem.”

    I am so sick of these morons. They have no idea that working hard, good ethics (I can’t believe I had to put the adjective “good” before ethics!) and using the brain God gave you is all that it took to get ahead for ANYONE is this country. Of course, now it’s favoritism, entitlements and the least qualified but…….that has not been our actual history in this country.

      That was the case I was just about to bring up TIME. When I was in the military, we had three different cases in 4 years of people being accused of sexual assault, kicked out of the army and their lives ruined. and then after it was all over the girl (and in one case a GUY that lied about another GUY assaulting him so he could get out of Iraq) gets caught admitting that it didn’t happen.

      The sickest part about the whole things was she kept chuckling to herself while she talked about all this violence. If you felt so passionately about it, would it be humorous to you? Or do you find it laughable that so many people are stupid enough not to see through you…pathetic…I bet she wouldn’t dare take the time to find out that 75% of violence against women in America is committed by blacks/muslims. That wouldn’t be very conducive to her argument.

      I hear ya’ my Military brother. I won’t deny that sexual assault DID/DOES take place in the Military just like in civilian life, but by the same token… many lives, families and careers have been up-ended by accusers who had an agenda/ulterior motive, or just lied to get their rumps out of some trouble that they and they alone were responsible for… like the Duke Lacrosse accuser.
