Democrats Claim GOP Conspiracy: Showing Photo ID at Polls Keeps Poor, Minorities From VotingWould being required to show a photo ID at the voting booth prior to casting your ballot deter you from voting? According to some Democrats, yes, it can, and will.  Especially if you are a minority, a senior, a student, or are poor.

But who are the ones Democrats claim are seeking to discourage minorities from voting? Republicans, of course.

Rev. Jessie Jackson and Congresswoman Marcia Fudge along with their supporters claim a “Rovian” conspiracy is underway by the GOP to bar minorities, students, the elderly, and the poor from accessing the ballot box.

During a press conference attended by House Democrats including Sheila Jackson Lee, Fudge said of Republicans:

“I guess they don’t think that we understand that they’re trying to keep poor people from voting, minorities from voting, the elderly from voting, students from voting, we are not stupid,” she told reporters at a Capitol Hill press conference on Wednesday alongside liberal activist Rev. Jesse Jackson.

“We understand that this is by design — when you go to every state that a Republican governor, where there’s a Republican governor, they are doing this across this country and we’re just not going to take it,” said Fudge.

Currently, there are 16 states that now have laws “requiring” or “requesting” voters to present photo ID prior to casting a ballot, but even that is apparently too many for Democrats, who seem to think no real identification should be required at all.

Jackson went on to explain to CNSNews what types of identifying documents he deems appropriate to show at the polls:

“You can use a utilities ID in some instances, a driver’s license or a Social Security number, a whole range of personal identifications – a phone bill,” Jackson told CNSNews.com.

Isn‘t a driver’s license a photo ID? And, what, exactly is a “utilities ID?” Did Jackson trip himself up a bit, perhaps?

Jackson also believes moving Election Day from Sunday to Tuesday is another “scheme” to quash minorities’ votes.

“Even, for example, moving voting from Tuesday – Sunday back to Tuesday – well, Tuesday’s a day when most people work. That’s always a scheme to suppress the vote and you have higher turnout on the weekends,” he said.

One of Jackson’s supporters even went so far as to suggest showing your photo ID to election judges could invite“ stalkers” into your life, when he told CNSNews that his daughter is “terrified” of showing her ID as it contains her school dorm’s address.

“Terrified?“ Of showing an ID at a voting booth because of the ”stalking-risks?” Surely, he jests. Does his daughter mind presenting her ID before purchasing alcohol at the supermarket, or upon entering a nightclub, or bar? What about when she goes to the movies and tries to get the student-rate ticket? Surely she must show her student ID then…

      India has the 2nd largest population in the world and they have elections every 5 yrs, for state and federal .
      They have a parliamentary form of government and high rates of both poverty and illiteracy.
      Some villages are so remote that there are NO ROADS connecting them to civilization.
      YET THEY HAVE VOTER ID CARDS for voters and EVERYONE remembers to take their card with them when they go to vote.
      Are we worse than India ?

      If it was only about photo ID, the dems would have a let’s get our photo ID day. But it is not about having an ID. It’s about restricting their ability of fraud. What an evil bunch. Besides, who in this day and age don’t have a photo ID?
      According to their logit, airlines shouldn’t require an ID either.

      Sure they are against it. How else do you think they have rigged elections in the country. Has anyone ever checked how many times black votes in a district far outnumber the census population of them that live there? How can this be? Why doesn’t the govt publish by race how many minorities hold federal, state and local jobs? Are they trying to push white people out?

      If the elections board is prohibited from identifying voters, then at the very least we should dye their fingers blue like they did in Iraq’s elections, just to prevent multiple voting fraud by liberals. How about using the facial recognition software available to cops on iPhones and Droids? Or would that also be too scary. Should we let people vote in full burkas so their identities can be protected? How would you know whether the person is an illegal? This is just ridiculously stupid.

In Chicago they probably don’t have to have voter cards, just show their food stamp cards, union cards, or their last pass to Disney World.       They must think you‘re dumber then a rock that you can’t register to vote days why even weeks or months before an election and then require you to go all the way to some office and get an ID with your picture on it. So Democrats think you are not only Dumber then a Rock but think you are lazy. I think this might be a good time to reevaluate this Master Servant relationship that seems to going on, you know the idea that “You Can’t Make It Without Us” type relationship

      I didn’t know I was being deferred from voting because I was and still am a student. Didn’t seem to stop me from voting in the 2008 elections, the 2010 primaries and elections.

      The man was right with one thing, “stalking is a real issue”. I seem to recall Dems and Unions threatening, saying “we know where you live, how you vote.” Those are the stalkers you need to be wary of.

      Alas, our “illegal” voters is what we want, but cannot have if photo ID is required at the booths.

Don’t you have to have a photo id to cash a check, hold a bank account, drive a car or motor cycle, get a job and the like? the answer to these questions is YES.       I like to tell the story of the day I went to vote, and the lady ahead of me had MULTIPLE social security cards in her wallet. She asked to vote and that state required an ID, but accepted soc sec cards as ID. If granny can’t get out of the house, SURELY it is okay to vote FOR her.?.? huh?
      NOT!

      EVERY STATE needs a valid PHOTO ID REQUIREMENT to vote.

      In the day when we had 1/50,000,000 illegals, and MOST people were honest… we were able to get away with looser laws. PLUS, people KNEW their neighbors, so it was much riskier to try to vote, as people would RECOGNIZE you or the name you were using.

      The only way you can really beat this is to have your candidate win by huge margins. But the only person that could beat Obama by a lanslide has yet to declare.
      Oh and for you folks that say poll watchers will keep cheating from happening are dreamers. Between Obama’s Union thugs, Marxist thugs, Black Panther Party thugs, etc, etc, most poll watchers will never be allowed to step foot into the polling places. Obama’s thugs will see to that.

      Can some one please explain how they get welfare and food stamps without an ID? 2 years ago my son had to apply for food stamps. He had to have a photo ID, and utility bills to prove where he lived. Is this just a requirement for whites?

    What the democraps are afraid of is with Voter ID, is that it will keep illegals and felons from voting. Democraps have a long history of voter fraud and stealing elections. Over the years they’ve strived to get things in place that will…enhance their chances of “winning” elections. Motor Voter, was one….the ‘Provisionary Ballot’ is another. The main duty ACORN and their hundred subsidiaries have for the democraps is to collect these illegal voters and pay them with drugs, money, cigarettes, booze, etc., to vote for the democrap candidate, and then drive them to various multiple voting places. Since they got the Provisionary Ballot in place it is nearly impossible to detect this shenanigans. The ‘Provisionary Ballot’, puts the burden on the various polling precincts. They would all have to get together to try and sort all this multiple voting out, a nearly impossible task, and if its in democrap precincts, it’s plain not going to get done, that was the strategy. Gawd, democraps are wicked people.

      The “former” govenor of Wisconsin fought hard and vetoed voter ID with the same lame excuses. The fact is, democrats in Wisconsin, including Doyle, needed the Chicago liberals that were bussed into Milwaukee to vote illegally to win their elections.

      No photo ID & positive proof of who you are, no vote! Plain and simple.

      The same voters that Jesse is so concerned with never have a problem producing positive photo ID to sign up for the government entitlements that they receive from those of us who actually pay taxes.

      Actually, voter fraud in the form of people voting as another person is was very common back in the 1960’s, but it’s pretty rare today. Most voter fraud now involves people voting as themselves in two different districts, and an ID law won’t do anything to stop that. Still, whatever their intent, ID laws are perfectly legal, as long as the state will give you identification without having to pay more than a nominal fee.

    What the devil are they talking about I have had to show my ID every time I have ever voted? Unless they are talking about the illegals who don’t have drivers license?? And why should we vote on the Sabbath. No Tuesday is just fine, the polls always stay open till 9 or 10. They are just making excuses now.       It is an inconvenience to have to vote after work, the theory goes, most of Jackson‘s constituents don’t have jobs, perhaps if he provided a government paid free lunch at the polling station. . .If a cop stops you must produce a valid ID, not a utilities bill. Let’s have a cop at the polling station and see how many, lets have a computer hooked up to voting stations then see how many minority felons then show up to vote.

      I’ve never had to show my ID, but every time I vote, I’m always reaching for my wallet to pull my ID out to show it. It makes perfect sense to require proof that the person trying to vote is the correct person and it’s completely ridiculous that it could be considered any sort of problem to have to show a photo ID to vote.

    In CA ( I have personal knowledge of just CA) illegals go to a polling station with a utility bill and vote because sometimes when illegals go to a polling station , they find out that the name they want to use to vote has already been used by somebody else before them. So they show their utility bill and the polling agent HAS to give him a ballot and allow him to vote. The address on utility bill is used to prove that the illegal is using the right station to vote.

      This is how I vote in CA :
      I go to the polling station and they ask me my name .
      Then they look up my name in their list.
      Then they say my name out loud and ask me for my address.
      Then I give my address and they confirm it .
      Then they make me sign against my name on their list.
      If its a primary they ask if I am registered D or R or I and then match it with their list .
      Then they give me a ballot paper.
      I go and vote and then they help me drop it into a box, and give me a receipt off the ballot paper and a little sticker.
      At NO stage am I asked for ID .

      CA is corrupt as all get out. we always show our drivers license in Utah, and in Colorado when I lived there. No wonder CA is in the shape its in. Hey Congress, stick to your guns, Picture ID’s or Pictured Drivers licenses only for voting anywhere in the Union!

    If you need ID for things like buying things and driving there is no reason not to use that same ID to vote. If you are to unable to get an ID you should not vote anyway. It means you are probably here in the country illegally. Everyone that is here legally has a SS number and there is no reason not to have ID. The other thing the Republicans need to do it place a (D) in front of everything they want to pass because we all know the Democrats only vote for that (D). If the letters were to be removed and only names were there Republicans would win.

      Voting is a right. Fraud is a crime.

      To drive is not a right but ID is required.
      To fly is not a right but id is required
      To apply for a job is not a right but id is required
      To purchase or rent a home is not a right but id is required
      To be registered in a retirement home is not a right but id is required
      To apply for welfare, food stamps, WIC or any state/government services is not a right but id is required.

      So explain to me again how this is a problem for the elderly and low income minorities again?
      Why is a id required? To insure integrity and stop fraud.

      Do you know there are agencies like United Way ( I only know about this part of CA)
      which open “ checking accounts” exclusively for cashing government checks ?
      If you can’t open a checking account in a bank , and you have to cash government checks, you can go to United Way and open an account, they will cash your check.
      You can use whatever name you want, whatever address you want and in any number of permutations and combinations, one account for each name to which the gubmint will make out the checks.
      And while you are there, you can pick up loads of food and clothes and shoes , mostly for free .

    Why is it more difficult for minorities, poor, and seniors to show ID? Are they too stupid to aquire one? How is it that these groups continue to support a party that doesn’t think they are capable of living life and accomplishing anything without help from the benevolent white politicians? I would be insulted if someone said that standards needed to be lowered for me to succeed. Or that I would be too intimidated or stupid to get an ID to vote.

    It is obvious that the demos want to be able to rig elections. That is the only purpose for fighting ID checks. The Unions want to be able to bus the same people from one election polling place to another, and tell them who to vote for. It is too expensive and time consuming to constantly try to find new people.

    This is such an incredibly stupid arguement I don’t really even know how to comment about it. What about showing a photo id could possibly scare someone who is a legal citizen away from voting? I guess if you have warrants out for your arrest that you could be paranoid about someone arresting you in the voting booth but other than that I can’t even fathom what the hell these idiots are talking about. The real reason that these people don’t want everyone to have to show an id is because it makes it much easier to cheat in an election if you can just walk in with a voter card with Mickey Mouse written on it and vote.

      I moved in 2010 and when I went to my new voter polling place I was told that I could vote as long as I had my voter registration card for my current address. SURPRISE, I had the card but NO ONE asked me for photo ID to compare the card with the ID. They didn’t care about the ID. They handed me my electronic card to vote and that was that.

    Tell me, there are other things that require ID – such as buying liquor (must beo over 21 in most states). Surely these minorites/poor/ etc, have IDs for other things, why the objection to show ID to vote? This is a non-problem.

    I live in Hawaii a blue state (I know, I know, soooooo many liberal hippies) any way, we are required to show a photo ID to vote, and we also get time off of work (2-3 hours paid) to vote in your district. It’s never been a problem or an issue, the only problem I see is Hawaii voters keeping re-electing dumb politicians.
