Denver Riot Police Force ‘Occupy’ Protestors to Retreat

DENVER (The Blaze/AP) — Dozens of police in riot gear have begun pushing Wall Street protesters into retreat outside the state Capitol in Denver, and the protesters are no longer resisting. A handful of arrests were made.

Many of the protesters chanted “Peaceful!” as they backed away from their encampment in Lincoln Park early Friday.

Officers were placing plastic handcuffs on some protesters and reading them miranda rights.

Riot Police first moved to dismantle the Occupy Denver camp early this morning. Authorities began taking down dozens of tents at around 3:30 a.m. At about 6:30 a.m., officers in helmets and carrying batons advanced on the a line of protesters who had locked arms around the tents, including a makeshift kitchen.

Initially, there were no arrests as Colorado State Patrol officers and Denver police found themselves in a calm standoff with the protestors. Later, arrests ensued as protesters began to scream at police, refused to leave their camp, and caused a ruckus.Denver Riot Police Force Occupy Protestors to Retreat

A main downtown street running by the park was cordoned off and some bus service was disrupted.

Authorities had given the protesters an 11 p.m. Thursday deadline to clear the park:

Meanwhile, in New York City, Mayor Michael Bloomberg had given Occupy Wall Street protestors in Zuccotti Park until 7AM this morning to vacate the premises. At the last minute, the Mayor postponed the cleanup, and all protestors were allowed to stay.

The owners of the park– Brookfield Asset Management– had sent a letter to the NYPD requesting that the park be cleared for cleaning. The NYPD, at the mayor’s order, agreed to clear the park, but the prospect of mass arrests and possibly a riot on video for the world to see was too much for Bloomberg, who abandoned the plan early this morning.

The protestors in New York have called Bloomberg’s bluff, and now the Occupiers are emboldened for their global October 15th protest.

    Every city where these parasites assemble, the police should just throw “tear-gas” bombs into the
    crowd. I’ll bet that would make their lazy asses scramble!
    I would also make them cleanup all the “fece’s” & used condoms they leave behind.
    This is all just a large sex orgy for them…plus a great get-together for the drug-heads.
    What a pathetic bunch! Definately not people who love America.

    God bless the Denver PD! Citizens in Colorado won’t have to live with the stench because their Mayor is…gutless.
    Mr. Bloomberg is perfectly willing to allow businesses to fail – because no one can get to them, put up with the stench, because the protestors told him he had to, and generally, conduct the office of the Mayor of New York as though it were being run by…others.
    Just one request, Mr. Bloomberg. Don‘t attend any more Mayor’s conventions. You have absolutely nothing to offer.

    Bloomberg is a dolt, allowing the hippie protestors to bully the city, putting the officers, citizens, and city works in harms way.

    When your ready to have them leave what say you go down there alone Mayor and tell the socialist hippie mass to clean up and leave, by yourself.

    I’ve only been to Denver once in my life. I couldn’t get over how emaculate it was. The absolute cleanest, most sparkling city I have ever seen. I swear I could see my reflection in the gutters. I‘d drop kick ’em outta there too.

      Ya know I realized that a lot of the cities there are kinda clean. I mean I lived in Fort Collins here and there and when I think back on it occasionally I remember it is a nice clean city. So is Estes Park and Loveland… Boulder however, well not every city can be clean lol.

    Yep, love Colorado! When I lived there the “easterners” called us “cowboys”.

    We were had our guns, blue jeans, boots and V-8 powered vehicles! The City and County of Denver Police took nothing off of anyone who was breaking the law! Good to see the West is still alive and well!

    Way to go Denver and Colorado stand up to the slobs who are abusing public and private property..send them packing back to mommy‘s and daddy’s basement!

      I live in Colorado and was very surprised that Gov. Hickenlooper stepped up to the plate and wouldn’t let the protesters stay in the park. He is probably worried about reelection next time if he doesn’t follow the law. I was watching the news last night when the state troopers and Denver PD officers were all out there in force to clear out the park. It was great! There is a city ordinance stating they can’t stay in the part over night. Thanks again for doing your job!

    Hooray for Colorado. You know the eastern cities are not going to do anything to the demonstrators.
    The only city that would let them go on and on in TX would be Austin (the last liberal stronghold)
    I don’t see the people of TX letting a service member be spit on and not take action.
    I believe this would be true of all of the western states except CA and OR.

    Why are you on the left so often making comparsions between the OWS and the Tea Party? Are you that worried about the Tea Party that you need to have some offset group? I think you need to look at the Tea Party and you will see the actions are not the same for these groups, as well as stated goals. If the left had a Tea Party it would not involve people destroying propertry, spitting on people, or causing incident that forced arrest. I am sure you will disagree and say the Tea Party does all this but won’t have the proof to back up that claim.

      The protesters are being arrested left and right across the US. Funny, I don’t remember any Tea Partiers being arrested. They are violent, we are not.     as much as I do not like boycotting– I say everybody should stay home- do no businesses around the area- and let the business owners complain to Bloomberg– if the media would not give it so much attention– this would die down and they would go home– if you do go down-and see drugs, sex, etc…– call the police and make them do their jobs– and do not back down!
    If you believe in this protest- than go take the crowd and march in front of Bloomberg home and chant- he is one of the richest people they are mad about! organize groups for Bloomberg, Pelosi, Obama, GE, etc..

      bloomberg’s orders are to let the sideshow go on indefinately. the orders come from people much more powerful than himself. just look into who owns the zuccatti park and their affiliations. bloomberg is a tool…the gov in colorado is not under the thumbs of the east coast radicals.

    I for one am amazed at the guts the governor of Colorado has shown, Good job Mr. Hickinlooper, you have shown the people of Colorado that you are not a democrat lackey and care more about the people of your state that the left wing whack jobs destroying the publics property and breaking the laws of your great state.     I’m curious as to how the LSM will focus on the next Tea Party demonstration. I’m almost looking forward to getting a huge laugh regarding the lies they will tell when excoriating yet again the Tea Party. Also wondering the demented left wing dem politicians will describe the horror that the Tea Party brings. I will probably bust a gut laughing at Pelosi’s lies. They now compare these OWS loons to the Tea Party, which of course is a slap in the face, but I do wonder how they will compare future Tea Party gatherings to these disgusting acts.
    Warning to the OWS crowd, since I have worked in law enforcement I have seen what lightening does to the human body. It’s bound to happen sooner or later.

      I worked in down town Denver for two years. The Occupy Denver protesters have only moved from their normal hangout spot on the 16th street mall to the park a few blocks away temporarily. On a normal summer day these same people occupy the 16th street mall which stinks of urine and feces all year long. These filthy hippies spend all day doing drugs, drinking. begging for money all year long in downtown Denver. They are a constant problem for the mall shop owners and workers trying to make an honest living. The police know them by name. They also know the Denver police do not hesitate to bust open heads without consequence and that’s why they did not resist when told to leave the park. The whole thing is astroturf made up of homeless filthy hippie useful idiots. Most people with half a brain know that national socialism and communism are the opposite of Utopia and have always led to millions of murders and genocide.
      The students don’t know this because they have never seen a book with real history in it. Many of them can’t even read or write after many years in college which can be seen by the lame attempt at making signs.

    The best way to get these morons to leave is to ignore them. I doubt the lib. media will do that ,they want to gin this up as a populist mainstream movement instead of the fringe left wing Woodstock sex and pot party it really is. Their hope is it will ignite some fire in the reelect obama campaign. From what I see and hear from the democrats I’m around everyday ,it isn’t working . Many say they won’t vote this time around ,some are even talking voting Republican ,I LOVE IT !
