Depp Says Disney Hated His Captain Sparrow

NEW YORK (AP) — Johnny Depp’s flamboyant portrayal of Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean” was good enough for an Oscar nomination, but the actor says Disney was less than thrilled.

Depp talked about it in an interview with rocker Patti Smith for the January edition of Vanity Fair magazine. Depp said Disney “couldn’t stand” his Sparrow and one person there even asked if Sparrow was gay. Depp told the Disney executive “all my characters are gay,“ and he said that ”really made her nervous.”

Depp’s next role is in the movie “The Tourist” with Angelina Jolie. It opens Dec. 10.

Depp said he felt sorry for the way the paparazzi hunted Jolie, and had to be careful that photographers didn‘t catch them too close together so rumors wouldn’t start.

The first I remember seeing Depp was on 21 Jump Street, the series he starred in with Richard Greico. He was great even then. I‘ve always enjoyed his work in everything I’ve seen him in, though I totally disagree with his politics.

As for his “gay” comment to Disney, he was obviously having semantic fun at their expense, using “gay” in its literal sense to poke fun at their nervousness at the chance he might be perceived as “gay” in the homosexual sense. Excellent sense of humor!

I go out of my way not to watch any more Depp movies and I have only seen the 1st Pirates. Depp is a typical Hollywood liberal who has disdain for the very people that have made him a star. I refuse to give him any more of money.

Jonny Depp is quoted with saying the following….America is dumb, is something like a dumb puppy that has big teeth — that can bite and hurt you, aggressive.”

I always thought Depp adapted the role of Jack Sparrow from two people, the cartoon skunk PePe Le Pew and Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones. I think he did a fantastic job of portraying them. On Angelina Jolie’s sexual promiscuity? I‘m a bit upset that I’m not in KingArthurUp’s list……maybe next year.

there’s this one guy at work… all he does is talk about politics. From the time he clocks in until the time he leaves, politics-politics-politics. He doesn’t talk about family. he doesn’t talk about friends. He doesn’t talk about sports, movies, music, books or television UNLESS it is political in nature.

Even though most of us at work agree with him, nobody likes to be around him.

You don’t have to read articles on The Blaze that do not interest you. I find it rather a waste of someone’s time when they post similar complaints (such as ‘this is news worthy because?’). Don’t read what does not interest you but allow those of us that are interested to read it.

      1. Why would Disney not like his portrayal of Jack Sparrow… the public obviously loved him enough to blockbuster 3 of those movies.

      2. I think Depp said that to get under their skin

      3. Why would it get undr their skin? I pegged Disney to be in the “not that there’s anything wrong with it” crowd —-not that I agree with that philosophy.

      4. I thought Sparrow had encounters with females in the movie (previous situations) plus talk about towns with women in them and his attration to Elizabeth Swan —- Sparrow wasn’t gay.

Really? I thought he was doing a Keith Richards the first time I saw him (seriously). Why would you assume “gay”? Pirates dressed flamboyantly, even in real history, it was their way of rebelling against all societies at the time (one of many ways). The character clearly liked women, and clearly had no interest in men. I don’t get it.

Son, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it, you? You Lt. Weinburg? I have a greater responsability than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have the luxery of not knowing what I know; that Santiago’s death, while tragic probably saved lives, and my existence while grotesque and incomprehensible, to you, saves lives.

You don’t want the truth. Because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall…you Need me on that wall.

We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline.

I have neither the time of the inclination to defend myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would prefer you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

—Sorry, what were we talking about again….?

But the rumor is that this story got a political slant when Barney Frank was heard saying that he knows a lot of Republicans that he would like to see walk the plank.

It couldn’t be confirmed if it was his plank or John Kerry’s . . . The AP was still waiting for confirmation if Mr. Frank even has a big ship . . . The conflict arose when he was seen riding a little dinghy.
