The German paper Der Spiegel is reporting that there is strong possibility disgraced Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will soon seek extended medical treatment in Germany, at which time he will relinquish his power.
From the paper:
The United States government’s scenario for an end to the political chaos in Egypt appears to be this: President Hosni Mubarak travels to Germany for a “prolonged health check” that would offer the 82-year-old a dignified departure. Over the weekend, the New York Times reported that secret talks to that effect were being held between the US government and Egyptian military officials.
According to information obtained by SPIEGEL ONLINE, plans for a possible hospital stay in Germany are far more concrete than had been assumed so far. Talks are already being held with suitable hospitals, particularly with the Max-Grundig-Klinik Bühlerhöhe in the southwestern town of Bühl near Baden-Baden, SPIEGEL ONLINE has learned from sources close to the clinic. The hospital management declined to comment.
According to Der Spiegel, there have been rumors the Mubarak previously suffered from cancer. He is currently residing at a holiday villa near the Egyptian Red Sea.

Posted on February 7, 2011 at 2:28pmThis has a hint of the overthrown of the Egyptian king of 1952. Guess Mubarak will be living in Germany for the rest of his life. Why is it that Egyptian presidents are either sent into exile or assassinated?

The sooner a process of transition is put in place the better I think. So to Mubarak:
Gute Fahrt!

Posted on February 7, 2011 at 11:26amIsreal will be at war with Egypt in a matter of months…….Just my opinion…
Get ready for $7.00 per gallon gasoline and $200 per barrel oil..
Imagine if we only had our own oil to sustain us in our energy needs????? Oh wait,…WE DO!!!!!!
Drill Baby Drill! If we open up our natural resousces, these overseas events would be a mere “blip” on the news….

I have been looking for an explanation. Maybe you can help me out. If world supplies of oil are reduced and the price shoots up and If more oil is produced here, why would it be sold here for a percentage of what it could be sold abroad? Why would exxon deny themselves profits? The only way I see would be if we nationalized the oil fields. Can you explain?

Posted on February 7, 2011 at 12:50pmat least we wouldnt be giving our money to opec a global cartel made up of countries who have sworn to destroy the west (which last time i checked meant us.) and hell it may even put some AMERICANS to work. the only reason the u.s. isnt paying twice as much for oil / gas now is that its our currency that everyone has to pay the opec thugs with now, and we can just keep printing it. which has been the fed’s m.o. Reminds me of a few months ago when obama was preaching to china at the g20 about manipulating their currency the same week the fed dropped 600 billion in bonds on the market. (which last time i check is hypocrisy)

Yes. Absolutely it’s jobs. But that’s it as far as I can see. Oil is traded on a global market. Unless we could produce huge amounts cheaply , we can drill the country dry and the price is the price. I think somehow most people think oil drilled here is somehow cheaper. And we would still buy from the global market. The only way I see to keep money from the Saudis is to NOT buy oil

What do you mean Der Spiegel readers dont get it? It’s a highly respected publication with readers of all stripes. Who do you think the readers are?
Report Post »How on earth are we going to defeat OPEC? Enlighten me how we defeat the global oil market unless we stop buying oil from them? Please tell me. Something concrete. Anyone can say “educate yourself”. I’m no genius, but I’m fairly well educated.

Posted on February 7, 2011 at 12:41pmlets wait and see….if they dont want a repressive regime like mubaraks, it stands to reason they arent going to want a repressive theocracy like iran’s. if i was israel i would be kinda worried about how fast a 30 year ally got thrown under an american administrations bus though…and preparing for war…this instablility will be taken advantage of by iran with hezbollah as their puppet military anything is possible now.

Posted on February 7, 2011 at 10:50amThe more this goes on, the more it reminds me of 1979 Iran. Our “friend, ally, defender of democracy” is being ousted from power, but we certainly don’t want him to come to be exiled in our country. Once again, we show the world that hyprocrisy is the handmaiden of politics.

Clearly, this echoes the 1979 Shah of Iran situation. Stinks to high heaven. [pun intended]

Posted on February 7, 2011 at 12:42pmYou are not the only one to make the connection with the Iran 79′ events. Somehow I will expect for Obama to dump Israel to the wolves when anything happens over there; he may even turn the US military against them, to side with his “Muslum outreach and apology” crusade.

Posted on February 7, 2011 at 3:04pmDefender of a democracy??? What are u talking about? Should we sacrifice the freedom of other nations for our own??? I don‘t think that’s what our Founding Fathers envisioned. We are wasting so much money playing stupid games all over the world. The Egyptian people has spoken… LET THEM HAVE IT THEIR WAY. This is NOT 1979!!! Those people were NOT pushed by Imams or extremists. This is everything America stands for. This happened so fast that even the extremists didn’t have time to exploit it. The world has changing and we have to learn to live with it! It’s our ability to adapt that would determine how great America will be in future. Let’s focus on our OWN problems. spending billions protecting countries that do not need our protection while they spend their own resources building their countries is irresponsible, stupid and unwise!!!
