Desmond Tutu: George Bush, Tony Blair Must ‘Answer for Their Actions’ at International Criminal Court

Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Desmond Tutu, described by Barack Obama as a “moral titan” in 2009, called Sunday for George W. Bush and Tony Blair to face prosecution at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for their respective roles in the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Tutu, the retired Anglican Church’s archbishop of South Africa, wrote in an op-ed piece for The Observer newspaper that the ex-leaders of Britain and the United States should be made to “answer for their actions,” claiming the Iraq war has destabilized and polarized the world “to a greater extent than any other conflict in history.”

“Those responsible for this suffering and loss of life should be treading the same path as some of their African and Asian peers who have been made to answer for their actions in the Hague,” Tutu asserted.

He continued: “The then-leaders of the U.S. and U.K. fabricated the grounds to behave like playground bullies and drive us further apart.  They have driven us to the edge of a precipice where we now stand — with the specter of Syria and Iran before us.”

“The question is not whether Saddam Hussein was good or bad or how many of his people he massacred. The point is that Mr Bush and Mr Blair should not have allowed themselves to stoop to his immoral level,” Tutu added.

While the International Criminal Court can handle cases of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, it does not currently have the jurisdiction to prosecute crimes of aggression.  Furthermore, the U.S. is among the nations which do not recognize the authority of the International Criminal Court.

In response to Tutu, Blair said he had great respect for the archbishop’s work to tackle apartheid in South Africa, but accused him of repeating inaccurate criticisms of the Iraq war.

“To repeat the old canard that we lied about the intelligence is completely wrong as every single independent analysis of the evidence has shown,” Blair said. “And to say that the fact that [Saddam Hussein] massacred hundreds of thousands of his citizens is irrelevant to the morality of removing him is bizarre.”

Blair said that “in a healthy democracy people can agree to disagree,” but Tutu seemingly feels otherwise.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

If not for the formerly great nations that Blair and Bush lead, Desmond Tutu would be living in a tree eating bugs and speaking in clicks and grunts. Desmond should get down on his knees and thank god for these brave men.

Here is the way I see it:

If they try to take Pres Bush for war crimes; then they have to do the same for Mr Obama, as he has armed international drug cartels w/fast and furious. Supported radicals and terrorist groups to win in Libya, helped the Muslim Brotherhood win in Egypt…

So Obama is thus a violator of international law by engaging in a unauthorized war of Libya; supporting international terrorism and international crime syndications. Thus if he authorizes the trial of Bush by the international court; Obama and his entire administration have to face trial as well.

All of this is the international crazies looking to Obama to ascend the global throne. There is no justice in their minds. Their only problem with bush or blair is that they bucked the system and started to look out for there own nation’s interests and not the globalist agenda. Many people have been killed for less.

This is the most dysfunctional political group ever, Like the New York Times, they should only be allowed to do charity / human interest articles . They do not have the common sense to handle internal policies. Can’t wait to get Mr. International Obama ( remember that speech in Germany ? The guy wants to rule the world. Mugabe has committed mass atrocities. South Africa is falling apart. Does Tut criticise the leaders there as loudly as Bush & Blair? No!

If you watched network news (ABC, NBC, CBS or FOX) in the late 1990s, you saw weapons inspectors being yanked around by the Saddam regime. If you listened to Senators Hillary Clinton & John Kerry, you heard them say that Iraq had to be stopped.

When & if the Iraqi WMDs are found in Syria will Demsond Tutu apologize?

It is true, the Iraq was was launched on false pretenses and lies. It became a politically correct nation building effort that has no end in sight. Now it’s moved on to Afghanistan. The war had bankrupted America. I think we’ve had enough. Bush went into Iraq because he had a personal vendetta against Saddam, because Saddam tried to assassinate his dad 10 years earlier. That’s not a good enough reason to waste all those American lives.

Let’s not forget current and former members of congress including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and heads of intelligence agencies from around the world. The list is getting long Desmond. 9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq. Bush never let a crisis go to waste. He invaded a sovereign nation without cause. He is a criminal. Page 335 of the 9/11 Commission Report makes this clear. Zionist Wolfowitz, former author of the Wolfowitz Doctrine, was the first to call for war, use Iraq as a premise for war. His other Zionists fell into line in order to implement their 1996 strategic study for Israel called, “A Clean Break: A New Strategy for securing the Realm.”

What types of terrorist groups did Iraq support?

Primarily groups that could hurt Saddam’s regional foes. Iraq has helped the Iranian dissident group Mujahadeen-e-Khalq, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, a separatist organization fighting the Turkish government, and several far-left Palestinian splinter groups that oppose peace with Israel. Iraq also hosted the mercenary Abu Nidal Organization, whose leader was found dead in Baghdad in August 2002. Saddam was a secular dictator, and his regime generally tended to support secular terrorist groups rather than Islamists such as al-Qaeda, experts say. But Iraq also supported some Islamist Palestinian groups opposed to Israel, and before the 2003 war, the CIA cited Iraq‘s increased support for such organizations as reason to believe that Baghdad’s links to terror could continue to increase.

      http://www.cfr.org/iraq/iraq-iraqi-ties-terrorism/p7702
      http://www.cfr.org/iraq/terrorism-havens-iraq/p9513

Between supporting the PLO. Invading Kuwait. Evading U.N. weapons inspections, the 2003 Iraq war was justified.

The war between satan and God that has been waged in heaven, and to a lesser extent here on earth, is now being fought mostly here on earth, since ol’ scratch has been dropped on us, just recently. Just remember that all a person needs to work satan’s agenda is to not believe in Christ, that’s all. All the rest are polytheists trying to save themselves. The rush to immorality and deviance is seen by them as a show of force, supporting “democracy” and “individuality”.

Oh but thought it was a conspiracy theroy that Bush and the rest of his gang were charged as war criminals? Rumsfield had to RUN away frm the police in France and barley got on a private haliburton jet before he was arrested. Wish he would have been. There was no reason to go to Iraq, no matter how many of you love Bush, he lied, he cheated, he destoryed. Besides destroying our constutition, he klilled innocent Americans by sending them to Iraq. The “war on terror” is for the average american citizen who loves liberty, and it was Bushes job to sell it to the people,so they would accept it. And we did. Now its Obamas turn to selll us out, and then rommney.

Ah, he didn’t actually lie. I was there, were you? We found small quantities of WMD (which was one of many reasons for the invasion), the most important reason we went in to Iraq was that it actually would have shown the world that the UN was still an actual authority, since Saddam had violated 17 resolutions all effectively nulling the cease fire from 91. Today, since the UN refused to allow it to uphold it’s mission, Iran now takes those same Resolutions (or Strongly worded letters) and wipes their asses with it! Get you head out of the sand!

I feel under Rommney, we will have a little more time. Obama lied and sold us out. I know Rommney is a puppet, but I need more time and money. Monk I was very young durning the first war with Iraq. But ive been told of propaganda campaigns where they got young kuwait girls to say that the Iraqi soldiers, after they invaded went into hospitals and threw babies out of incubators and all sorts of ish. Now from what my military buddy said, Iraq invaded kuwait and trashed the place, blew stuff up and destroyed property, but never threw babies out of incubators. He says the government got some of those little girls to lie to justify the war. Now as far as Iraq 2003, im sure it was Bush who felt he had to make up for daddy. It cost of thousands of lives. You know how I feel about wars of aggression. And 911. But at the core of my heart, I dont want our people dying for a lie. For something they thought was noble, but is not.

The Office of Special Plans was set up to massage the intelligence. It was unprecedented. They got rid of career intelligence officers and moved in their Zionist, Jewish, zealots.
Look, Cheney was a JINSA adviser. Wolfowitz called for the war using Iraq as an excuse. Perle and Feith were also in the Pentagon and they set up the Office. The Office fed the information to Wurmser and Libby, and Libby fed it to Miller of the New York Times, who later had to apologize for the misinformation. Miller went to jail to protect Libby.

All are Jews. Most were authors of the study written in 1996 for Israel, “A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm.” In this study they wrote that WMD’s would be used as an excuse for war… this was 1996. WMD’s were never found, because they were never there. We demolished Saddam’s infrastructure and ability in the First Gulf War. All lies.

Hey Monk…I read your ‘dissertation’. Yeah I’ve heard this one before, and I’ll grant you it bears consideration.. But, I’ll raise the bet….George and george W, both have had a special place in their hearts for the NWO. I don’t think that either of them ever thought that it would be the, murderous, dictatorial, fascist monstrosity that it looks like today. The forces that are ramrodding this globalist transition, aren’t worried about the past, except how the images affect a certain political viewpoint. In their view George W. was a baaad boy. Set the agenda back a few years. Trying to keep a promise to America. Foolish, naive and ultimately sincere. He just did not know who he was screwing with.

Monk, I hope you are just stating a fact and do not agree with that statement. I’m sure you know where I stand about ANY UN authorization. Just because we are Big and Strong doesn’t give us the authority to dictate the weak. We shouldn’t play head games with fanatical muslims either.

“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.
      Martin Luther King, Jr.”

With that quote I’m not calling the USA a oppressor. I’m saying, It’s insane to try to help a nation form a democracy which is living in the 6th century. Democracy’s always oppress the minority, 51% wants slavery and the 49% have to put up with slavery. 51% wants to eliminate Israel and the 49% gets dragged along. We are a republic and should champion the fact that we are a republic in every speech.

As I have pointed out numerous times here, the assumption is that Bush lied and people died. As though he was handed a report that said, nope, no WMD’s in Iraq and decided to invade any way. But that doesn’t fit with the facts. Numerous intelligence agencies, including our own, and heads of state from around the globe all agreed that Iraq had WMD’s and something had to be done. And the claim that Bush had the intelligence cooked doesn’t fit with the facts either. Multiple agencies and heads of state from abroad would have had to coordinate this and that would have been unlikely.
Put yourself in a dubious role as Bush using WMD’s as a pretext for nation building. Wouldn‘t you make certain that WMD’s were found. The Bush lied and people died narrative just doesn’t make sense. Nor does the Halliburton narrative. Did you know that Halliburton continues to get no bid contracts from the Government? Do you know why they got contracts in Iraq and Afghanistan? Because they are the largest construction/logistics company in the world and the only ones capable financially and physically of performing the massive contracts.
Stick to the facts. But we can certainly argue over the Geo-political ramifications of said facts and there are plenty of consequences.

Why do so many people think history started when they were born? He said the Iraqi war destabilized and polarized the world to a greater extent than any other conflict in HISTORY. What about WW II I think that war destabilized and polarized the world a little more than Iraqi. TUTU is just another Marxist trying to destroy Capitalism.

“The question is not whether Saddam Hussein was good or bad or how many of his people he massacred. The point is that Mr Bush and Mr Blair should not have allowed themselves to stoop to his immoral level,”

So how does an individual, an army, or a country fight to save lives and defeat those who would destroy or kill populations? It will always require that some in civilized society “stoop” to the level of the combat soldier. There is nothing noble about the acts of combat, only the cause. It is always easy for the ivory tower types to cast verbal stones. They only see what they want to see, but they freely accept the security paid for by others.
