We need more states to introduce and pass legislation similar to Montana‘s and Arizona’s new election laws that require potential POTUS and congressional candidates to attach certified documents as proof of natural-born citizenship to any application to be placed on the state’s ballot.
There are already 10 states — Arizona, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Maine, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Texas — doing it.

I figured, you know, actually SPEEKING ENGLISH would give folks the requisite knowledge to choose the correct word. I honestly think the tendency to mix these to COMPLETELY DIFFERENT words up is a fairly new problem caused by our pathetic educational system.
Sorry, I get touchy about this. It’s my only real pet peeve. Well, that and communists who pretend to be similar to conservatives. They may start with the same letter, but they are completely unalike. Much like “Then” and “Than.”

We all misspell words from time to time. But, when people use “Then” when “Than” is the correct word to use, it is not a simple misspelling. It shows that they do not know which word to use. Because this should be learned in elementary school, it annoys some of us. Therefore, it becomes a pet peeve of ours.
SPEAKING of which, it turns out that I have another pet peeve. People who would rather just behave like asses, and look for minor spelling errors as a means to ignore the point of the comment. Now, who on earth could I be talking about now? Hmmm…

In pure political terms, appropriating RR is quite brilliant. Most people have a favorable view of Reagan, the exceptions being far left extremists. President Obama is betting that his association with Reagan will appeal to that same majority of people, the exception being the far right conservatives, who will howl and wail at the very idea. And the more they howl, the more strident and ideological they look. It’s a no-lose strategy for Obama. I think it’s a deft tactical maneuver, even if I don’t believe it on face value.
Wisdom would dictate that conservatives not burn too brightly on this matter. To do so would create a tone similar to the “birther” movement. (I am worried that the Obama team is purposely letting the birther movement continue. I believe he was born in Hawaii and that he can prove it beyond any shadow of a doubt. However, it is to his political advantage to let the doubters whip themselves into a frenzy and then, just when they’re on the verge of revolution/impeachment/election, he will put the matter to rest . . . and the birther movement will look foolish, and by association, so will the conservative movement.)
Beyond the politics of the Obama/Reagan juxtaposition, we must also acknowledge the similarities in performance – approval ratings two years in, unemployment rates two years in, approach to deficit spending, the willingness to raise taxes, and one scenario that came later yet to play out in the Obama administration – the formation of a secret government that engaged in the trafficking of illicit drugs and other illegal activities to facilitate the sale of arms to Iran.
There is no gain to be had by denying the truth. Reagan was a great president, a great man, a flawed man, and a politician not above the dissembling and machinations of foreign and domestic policy. History and God will judge us all. Let them do their job.
