Update: GAINESVILLE, Fla. — An acquaintance of the pastor who once planned to burn copies of the Quran to mark the 9/11 anniversary says the Rev. Terry Jones is headed to New York aboard a Friday night flight.
K.A. Paul, a Christian evangelist who runs a ministry in Houston, says he bought the ticket for Jones to fly out of Orlando and land around 10:15 p.m. in New York. Paul provided The Associated Press with a copy of the itinerary and flight confirmation number.
Jones has said he planned to meet with the imam overseeing a proposed mosque and Islamic center to be built near ground zero.
Paul says Jones was able to sneak out of his Gainesville church without the media noticing.
Earlier Friday, Jones’ son, Luke, said that the Quran-burning won‘t take place Saturday but couldn’t say whether there would be a future event.
————-
After a two hour call deadline from Florida pastor Terry Jones to NYC Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf was ignored, the embattled pastor at the heart the Koran burning controversy has agreed to call of tomorrow’s scheduled event.
“I want to be clear and confirm one hundred percent that there will not be Korans burning tomorrow (Saturday) at 6:00 pm as was planned,” Jones’s spokesman Pastor K.A. Paul said, according to Sky News. Instead, Jones would like to meet with Rauf to find a “peaceful and noble” resolution.
At approximately 1:20 pm ET, Jones and Paul announced two telephone numbers during a press conference and said that Imam Rauf had until 3:20 pm ET to call and discuss whether in fact the Imam is planning on moving the mosque slated to be built near Ground Zero. At that time, neither Paul nor Jones said what would happen if their challenge went unanswered.
Now, it appears that Jones has backed of his once hard-line commitment to burn Korans on the anniversary of 9/11.
Earlier in the day, Paul did admit that while legally Jones has a right to burn Korans, it is not the right thing to do. He reiterated that statement once the deadline had passed.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 6:09pmYes, there is a Holy war going on…but while there is a physical war being fought on this earth…the real fight being fought is an unseen spiritual fight. The Bible says we don’t war against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities in heavenly places. We need to quit spewing so much hatred with our mouths and get on our knees like our old grandmas and grandpas did and win this war with prayer. I know this statement will not be popular but that’s ok. I know it‘s right and it’s, at least for me, what God has called me to do. Christians can NOT ever hope to win unsaved people to Christ without using Kingdom principles. God is love, not hate. In the natural, I think some of God’s rules are a bit sucky, but they are HIS RULES and He has called us to love our enemies. That was the last commandment He gave us through Jesus. He said we are to love our neighbor as He has loved us. I don’t believe He sent out a memo saying that was no longer in effect.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 5:32pmThese are very strange times.I am concerned by a very uneasy feeling… a gut feeling I can’t explain. I am very thankful that the pastor has decided not the burn the koran….but there is also something very very wrong with this whole situation. Something is out of whack.
Michelle Malkin offers an interesting perspective: Shhhhhhh, we’re told. Don’t protest the Ground Zero mosque. Don’t burn a Koran. It’ll imperil the troops. It’ll inflame tensions. The “Muslim world” will “explode” if it does not get its way, warns sharia-peddling imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. Pardon my national security-threatening impudence, but when is the “Muslim world” not ready to “explode”? http://townhall.com/columnists/MichelleMalkin/2010/09/10/the_eternal_flame_of_muslim_outrage
One one level I agree with her… Enough is enough. When will enough be considered enough? Never, it would seem. I do feel this pastor does have a right to do what he was going to do, but if it endangers others, does he still have that right? I don’t know. I find interesting comparisons between his right to burn and the Iman’s right to his “park 51”. When can you be so right that you are wrong. I am very concerned about “hate” being so freely thrown around as a label. Also, this pastor is criticized, but WHERE IS THE IMAN through this whole thing. His silence is extremely loud. We paid him to represent us to the Islamic world. How come he has not been loudly, boldly declaring to the Islamic World not to incite to violence over this incidence. His silence to the world speaks louder than any thing…. and do not think it goes unnoticed by the World. He is speaking in his silence. He may make a small statement at some point…but his statement if it were made would be too little too late, and would that even be deliberate. No… there is something very very very wrong going on. I feel it in my gut…and I have learned to pay attention to “gut feelings”. What ever happens tomorrow, this Iman from NYC is significantly responsible…not because he isn’t moving his Park 51:45-47 but because he is loudly proclaiming a message to the Islamic world thru deliberate silence.
There was a reference to another article made in another series of postings. I do encourage people to read it. It is very interesting and terrifying in its implications. We in America forget the power of symbols although we continue to be manipulated by them all of the time (ie: Obama iconography, even the new 10.2.10 symbol). The symbols associated with this new “cultural center” aka “bridge” are extremely significant. Please do read about the symbols associated with “Park51:45-47. I sent a chill down my spine as I read the article.
“Cordoba Houseâ changed its name to Park 51 which is odd since the address of the location is 45â47 Park Place.
Look to the Koran-the book of islamic conquest, to understand the odd name for this âprojectâ.
Koran CHAPTER 51, Verses 45-47 explains all:
51:45 And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves.
51:46 And [We destroyed] the people of Noah before; indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient.
51:47 And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.
The numbered Koran verses celebrating the muslim conquests match up to the Park 51: 45-46-47 address.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 10:21pmI’ve seen this silly post about the symbolism before, and I thought we had all moved past this.
Chapter 51, verses 45-47 of the Koran are spoken by “Abraham’s honored guests”–meaning three angels that visit Abraham. Verse 45 refers to some tribe that God smited (I forget which one, there were so many!). Of course, 46 refers to the great flood in which God drowned the wicked (the people of Noah’s time) and spared the ark. This story should already be familiar to you. So it is the angels who are the expanders of heaven in verse 47.
So, yes. Maybe these verses are symbolic. They tell stories shared by Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Perhaps those verses were chosen as “common ground.”
Or, I suppose we can just be goofy and take things entirely out of context and with no attempt to understand.

We either have Constitutional rights or we don’t. Should the Pastor burn the Koran? No. But does he have a right to do so? YES!
People burn our flag all the time. They strip down naked and demonstrate for animals. They walk around with mutilated effigies of our presidents while shouting expletives. Should they do it? No. Do they have a right to do it? YES!
A free society isn’t conveniently free or graced to us. It is our natural right to be free. And in that free society people are equally free to fail as they are to succeed. They are free to be morons as equally as they are to be great. That’s the beauty of freedom. A person is free to live a productive life or be a moocher. The choice rests on the individual. Only when you violate the natural laws of other people is arrest or censure warranted. Otherwise, if you don‘t like what’s going on, leave the area, close your eyes, or turn away. Or offer an alternative argument with rational, objective reasoning. If that individual can’t grasp axioms and/or basic human decency, walk away and leave them to universal laws of cause and effect.

My comment about what you’ve done or not done is simply in response to your condemnation of a Christian Pastor who rightly or wrongly was attempting to alert a sleeping America. Don’t let anyone convince you that the Koran is a peaceful book. As Glenn Beck says, do the research for yourself. I have. Posted on September 10, 2010 at 7:07pmLeave it to us to not see that the pastor decided to turn the other cheek. His misguided attempt at justice was just that, misguided.
While the muslim believing world at large collectively and routinely issues fatwas condemning others to death, burns images of world leaders in effigy, burns the U.S. flag, beheads those who chose to grow beyond their system of beliefs, and perpetrates countless other offenses to human rights. This man felt compelled to strike a blow in the other direction.
Suddenly we who routinely watch our own flag burned on television, who watched a religiously guided maniac kill 3000 plus people, suddenly we are aghast at the thought of a preacher of the christian faith getting fed up and burning a book. Sure he is wrong, even by the very principles that he probably teaches on Sunday. But who are you to be so offended now. Where was your outcry when they burned our flag, when they beheaded Christian converts (recently, not in the 15th century), when they routinely send operatives into our midst to create converts or havoc.
Thanks preacher for turning the other cheek, again and again and again, etc.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 7:29pmOn Sept. 11,2001 JIHADISTS burned down the WTC’s,Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania along with 3000 Americans. America and the world were shocked but many Muslims danced in the streets. A radical pastor in Florida wants to burn a book and it is the American public that is outraged. The FBI is sent down right away. Where was the FBI while American troops funerals were being protested by the so-called Christian Church. No one will be dancing in the streets if he does this. One thing is for sure many of us are not going to be crying over it either!!! Already though he is being threatened and the American flag is being burned. The media spins the story as usual . It is all about the PASTOR!!! Wrong !! The story is about JIHADIST and the SHARIA LAW pigs!!! Someone and hopefully it is not one of our troops will be killed today in the name of ALLAH and SHARIA LA W!! Where is the POLITICALLY CORRECTNESS when you need it from the media?? JIHADIST and SHARIA LAW come from the KORAN. Not some pastor in Florida, not the Palistine State issue or any othe Western policy. Imam Rauf and the RADICAL MUSLIM’s want it to become a “HOLY WAR” What the pastor is doing is playing right into their hands. Great soundbites for the Muslims to use to preach JIHAD!!!
Rauf’s statement said. “We are not going to toy with our religion or any other. Nor are we going to barter. We are here to extend our hands to build peace and harmony.” LMAO!!!! You are doing a GREAT job of it!!!! We see right through you!! Either you are afraid of the RADICAL’S or you are one of them!!! You want PEACE and HARMONY then say the Mosque will be moved out of respect for the victims of the WTC’s. This JIHAD started way before Sept.11,2001.
Always Remember “The Peacekeepers” 241 Marines KIA on Oct.23,1983 in Beirut,Lebanon while they slept by an Iran backed Hezbollah JIHADISTS!! and all the others killed by your PEACEFULL religion!!

There is no link between building a place of terrorist recruitment and burning a holy book in the unenlightened mind of a left wing nutcase. Cordoba House changed its name to Park 51 which is odd since the address of the location is 45 47 Park Place.
Look to the Koran-the book of islamic conquest
Koran CHAPTER 51, Verses 45-47 explains all:
51:45 And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves.
51:46 And [We destroyed] the people of Noah before; indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient.
51:47 And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.
The numbered Koran verses celebrating the muslim conquests match up to the Park 51: 45-46-47 address.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 7:41pm@ DANGLINGBAGS, While I vehemently disagree with Pastor Jones and his Koran burning scheme, I don’t think he should be held accountable for the actions of a few lunatics on the other side of the world who chose, on their own, to deal with an unfortunate crisis through acts of violence. Let everyone be accountable for their own individual actions and stop blaming third parties for the stupid acts of others. As if the pastor placed a gun to the Afghans’ heads and forced them to beat each other into oblivion. There is nothing more degenerate in a society than people who do not take responsibility for their own actions and excuse their pitiful behavior by citing the behavior of another (lets get out of the playground folks).

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 8:07pmdanglingbags you seem to think that the words of a few free Americans is the cause of death in Afghanistan. Really? I bet you think that women who are raped cause it by the way they dress or walk. The fact is the loss of life is caused by the individual doing the killing. The pastor is a frustrated American who might perceive the insensitivity of the NY Imam who is pushing the Ground Zero Mosque as a blatant example of the bully like behavior of many Muslims that is not countered enough by moderates. Pat Condell has an excellent piece on YouTube that explains it much better than I could.

There’s no reason for your diatribe. To suggest that any violence from the Middle East is linked solely on the burning of the Koran is to insist those committing the crime of said violence have no volition. That they are mindless zealots without a brain to process all the complexities involved with introspection. I assure you, many are educated individuals with the cognition to understand the moral implications of taking another life. Its those who do not think, who are intellectually lazy (not to mention morally devoid) who insist on perptuating violence under the guise of religion or god. Its wrong. They know it. Its evil. They know it. Its hypocritical. They know it. They just don’t care. Its an excuse to be lazy morally and intellectually. Plain and simple.
So please try to argue something based on reality and not fiction. Might serve you better.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 9:28pmThe News Media “owns” this one. Whatever blood is shed over this ridiculous “non-event“ is on the hands of a News Media that took nothing but TRIVIA and hyped it into an ”Islamic Frenzy”. People will die from this “non-event” and after the DEATHS are counted and reported, the media will move on to another NON-EVENT and cause more death and destruction. Rush Limbaugh has pegged them correctly as the Drive By media. A whack job with a 50 person church in the middle of Florida becomes international news because he’s burning a book? C’mon people … there’s got to be something more important going on out there. Shame on the Drive By’s … if we don’t hold them accountable, maybe God will?

In truth there is a link between the Imam and Mustache Man (as I like to call him). There are a group (majority) of Americans/New Yorkers that don’t want the mosque built for the following reasons: One, wounds are still fresh. I don’t know if you feel like many of us do but this gigantic area is a national graveyard where devoted Muslims…well you know the rest. 2. This Imam speaks of “building bridges” and “peace” but shows us that his bridges will not be built under the beams of tolerance and understanding. 3. He has past spoken out as a supporter of Shariah and many questions are rightfully raised on funding matters. And no those questions will not cease. 4. Hamas and Al Qaeda will see it as a victory and fight and recruit harder and stronger. In short it is obvious that I am opposed the construction of the Cordoba House (for many more reason than I listed)
There are a group (majority) of Americans/New Yorkers that don’t want the Koran burned for the following reasons: 1. Greatly disrespectful to Muslims who sought for freedom here to turn around and see there old country in war with the new. 2. Tolerance has been ruled out once again. It seems to be a lost condition between these two men. 3. Yourself and the Imam said people will die.
I am opposed to the burning of the Koran.
However I want to make this clear. Blaming conservatives like me for the deaths and violence that has been occurring in this religion for the past 1400 years is not acceptable nor the truth. I want to let you know and people who think like you, that the false blame and total inaccuracy you shed will not fly. My son will not be raised to feel an ounce of guilt for something he has not done, You can save the undeserved guilt for your own child.

Posted on September 11, 2010 at 12:02amThat’s ridiculous. I can’t stand the media, but if someone burns the bible I’m not going out killing people over it. Ok? There’s such a thing as personal responsibility. There’s such a thing as human decency.
Reasonable people don’t go around killing people over an offense to your religion. If the Muslims are so convinced that we‘re ’Infidels’ how about they trust in their god and let his judgment decide things?
Report Post »But no, they take things into their own hands and respond with recklessness. The blood is not on the media’s hands. They report news no matter how trivial you may think it be. And maybe it was. Maybe it was something that needn’t be reported. Maybe it was irresponsible? That doesn’t excuse radical reaction.

Posted on September 11, 2010 at 12:41amThe leaders of our country from NY to Washington DC are all hypocrites. They just about beg this pastor not to burn the Koran because Muslims view the Koran as holy and sacred. Mean while the family of 9/11 victims views the site where this Imam wants to build his Mosque as holy and sacred but no one ask the Imam not to build.
