Detailed Satellite Images of ‘Hellish’ North Korean Camps Show Growth

South Korea’s Unification Ministry has released the most detailed images yet of concentration camps in North Korea — camps which officials in the country have denied existence.

The camps are estimated to hold more than 200,000 North Korean citizens, according to the Daily Mail.

Last month, Kang Chol-Hwan, a former prisoner of a Yodok, spoke with CBN News about his experience. He escaped to China in 1992 after being held captive for 10 years. Kang has written a book about the camp called The Aquariums of Pyongyang and is considered one of the first people to speak publicly about Yodok. CBN wrote that when shown satellite images of the camps, Kang didn’t like what he saw:

“The camp definitely looks bigger,” he observed. “For example, these new buildings for prison guards weren’t there before.  I can only assume that means there are more prisoners being held and therefore more security is needed.”

Kang was taken to the camps with his family when he was nine years old. Kang describes the camps as a place where “even animals are treated better”:

“We had no food.  We eat anything we could get our hands on — rats, snakes, frogs, insects,” he recalled.  “We just had to find a way to survive.”

CBN interviewed another Yodok prisoner, Jeong Kyoung-il, who spoke on his torture  at the camp after he was arrested in 1999 for suspicion of spying:

While he was in the Yodok labor camp, Jeong says the prison guards performed a particular form of torture on him called the Pigeon Torture.  In essence, the prisoner is hanged from the wall with his hands tied behind his back like this and he was in this position for several days.

“This happened repeatedly,’ said Jeong. “It’s like you are hanging upside down.  Your muscles tense up and your chest sticks out like a bird. I thought I was going to die.”

Daily Mail notes that Amnesty International, a human rights group, compared the new images to blurry ones taken 10 years ago:

[It] confirms they are growing in size and branded them ‘hellish’.

‘The outside world certainly doesn’t know what’s going on and very little from the inside comes out,’ Sam Zarifi, from Amnesty International said last month.

‘The very little that has come out paints a very disturbing picture.’

Scott Edwards, director of the science and human rights program at Amnesty International added: ‘The fact that we would have to rely on satellite imagery just to dispel the government’s assertion that these camps don’t exist is testament really to the scale of the human travesty that might be going on inside.’

According to the Daily Mail, the Unification Ministry has said its representatives will be leaving for Pyongyang tomorrow to discuss peace and human rights and potentially meet with Kim Jon-il.

      Italy, I know it’s maddening to see all these mind-boggling injustices going on, but you have to learn to trust God and His justice. It might not come in this life, but just remember, God is a just God. That means there will be a day of reckoning. Just be patient and strive to get as close to Him as possible through prayer and worship so that your faith will carry you through anything this rotten world could throw at you. And don’t condemn anyone to hell for any reason, since we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God.

      I tend to agree with Mils. I have a hard time standing by while these ammoral pigs subject others to their will. (kinda like I feel about o’bummer) We need to do something. Until we get someone with ba??s, I guess the prison camps will continue to grow.
      BTW, if you think about it, we will be judged according to things we should’ve done, but didn’t, as well as the things we DO.

      Unfortunately GDHUS… there is no God allowed in North Korea. Many of the people in these camps were sent there because they were caught with a bible or other religious materials. In North Korea, there is only one God and that is Kim Jong Li. And the sad thing is that our country will never “get involved”.

Perhaps we could develop an immigration where atheists could escape the hellish Christianized United States and enjoy the liberation of living in an athiest nation. Vote Democrat and support your local political atheist and help America become a progressive atheist nation the same as North Korea.       Did any of you all ever read the biography of Mao? It still amazes me how this guy got to be so powerful. He was a no body, very much like Obama. I came away from reading it that the Chinese people, and I include the NK in that group have a mind set very different than ours. They are used to living under sever authority, and group think.
      Today there are so many people who admire Mao, even though he was responsible for as many as 30 million of his countryman’s deaths. I find my mind wondering if it could get like that here, and when the Tea Partiers are going to be rounded up by the progressives and thrown into some hell hole. It certainly seems the world is in a very difficult period, and the end ain’t going to be pretty.

The closest we have been to a theocracy was at the founding of this nation. It’s been going farther away ever since, except for a few ‘great awakenings’ along the way.     I have sat around many nights and wondered how a person like Kim Jon-il, could do such things to so many people just to stay in power. I just don’t understand it. There must be people around him who would if they could take him out.       What I find so incredible is that they call them re education camps. That struck me, because that is what the NWO, Agenda 21 papers that I have read, also called their planned camps that are all over the US right now. Marxist/Communist groups always treat their people this way. It reminds me of the terrible talk and threats they have made to the Tea Party people just lately in our Country. Or to the Christians in our Country. They have the same game plan for any American that doesn’t go along with their plan.

      With your comment about Agenda 21 and “reeducation camps,” I’m reminded of the footage Glenn showed of the ex-CIA who infiltrated deep into (sorry brain f a r t, can’t remember his name, the guy who blew up things) territory. He asked what would happen to those they couldn’t reeducate. He was told they would have to be eliminated, and I believe the number was a couple million that they figured wouldn’t take the reeducation.

    Man’s inhumanity to man has always puzzled me. It is demonic.
    It is what is coming on the world scene if we don’t act responsibly in electing a Godly conservative Republican in 2012.
    In reading again about the Bilderberg Group this morning, I find that this group of billionaires who seek a One World Order would like to create the same kind of chaos to control the people of the world. They want wars to reduce the population levels in order to control natural resources, and in order to produce regime changes and trigger a world war. They want to curb our access to the internet. They want a global government, and want to control the masses. They hate the Tea Party movement, because it interfers with their global plans. They control the banking systems, the media, and world governments. They seek to implant micro-chips in us so they can keep track of us personally. To me, in studying this group, they are worse then what Hitler had in mind for mankind. They certainly have more power than what Hitler had in his day. They encourage blurred borders, which I have mentioned previously, because it would destroy the origins and races of the world. Of course all of this is man’s plan for world domination…and not God’s plan for mankind at all.
    The last people to be completely dominated to bring about their desired end are freedom loving and liberty loving Americans. That is why it is so important to make the right choices as to who we want for 2012.

      Hey Biggest Yo Fool – You are one of Obama useful idiots – Did you know that when Kim Jon-il first got elected, he rounded up all of those useful idiots that help him get in office and put them in the camp – he knew a Country would never succeed if it had people who could work , but refused not to.

      If Obama ever gets his way to transform America – the first thing he would do is cut off Welfare and SS. In his America – those people would now be dipping into his pockets and he would never go for that. This is why progressives coin the phrase “useful Idiots”. Dictators use people like you to help them get what they want and them dispose of them like a disposable lighter once in power.

      These people are so beaten down psychologically they will never rise up against their government. They live, eat and breathe their leader. I doubt if very many N Koreans even know of these camps. North Koreans have no access to the rest of the world so everything their leaders tell them is rarely questioned. It is very sad to know that in 2012 a government can get away with this type of cruelty and there is nothing we can do about it.
