Detroit Cops React to Release of Graphic Video From Station Shooting

DETROIT (AP) — A graphic 68-second video released by Detroit police Friday shows a gunman striding into one of the city’s precinct stations, spraying volleys from a shotgun at surprised officers before being fatally wounded within inches of three of his victims.

The grainy surveillance video with muted color from Sunday‘s rampage at the city’s 6th Precinct was made public only after members of the city’s police force had seen it, Police Chief Ralph Godbee said.

The video shows Lamar Moore, 38, walking into the precinct and past the building’s raised front desk. He pulls a shotgun he had concealed along his right side and opens fire down a hallway. He’s then seen firing more shots down the hallway as he reverses his steps back into the middle of the lobby.

Moore then lunges head-first over the counter where two officers and the precinct’s off-duty commander had taken cover, firing shots of their own in his direction.

The most graphic portion of the video shows Moore square off with Cmdr. Brian Davis — above the prone figures of two wounded officers — as they exchange shots with their weapons about a foot apart. Davis loses parts of two fingers from a shotgun blast and crumples to the floor. He twists around a smaller desk as Moore continues toward him, at one point hurling a trash can at the gunman.

Moore, himself wounded, attempts to maneuver toward Davis, but falls to the floor. He later died while being taken to an area hospital, Assistant Chief Chester Logan said.

Police have not determined a motive behind the rampage, which left four officers wounded. Davis, the most seriously wounded, also was shot in the back. He and Sgt. David Anderson are expected to be released from the hospital soon. The other two officers were released earlier in the week.

“There are some tremendous acts of heroism in this video — to see officers perform in a spectacular way,” Godbee said.

    An EXCELLANT job by the Officers. They responded quickly and overcame a very lethal threat. A shotgun is superior to standard Police side arms. Training, Professionalisim, and Raw Courage saved lives that day. Godspeed to the wounded Officers.

    Has anyone thought about this, Myabe instead of blaming the Gun, or police we start to Blame the Court system! From what I’m told this guy had a long history of drugs and other various things! Maybe if the Courts were more strict, these Evils in our world wouldn’t be so evil! Please keep in mind, this mans house had a 13year old chained to a toilet! The Cops were at his house, because she got loose! When he arrived home, he found police cars there. Thats when he went to the police station and did his evil! I‘m Glad he didn’t have slugs in his shotgun! That probably would have changed evrything!….

    We just had an 29 year old LEO killed in Indy last week on a traffic stop the perp shot him 4 times two in the face. The cops all over this country are being singled out by nut jobs or by some groups who are making a concerted effort to distrupt our justice system. I would like to see cops approach a car for any reason with their gun drawn.

      Here in Utah the UHP already approaches ALL stops with their hand “covering” their gun.

      A word to the wise. When an officer approaches your car, (traffic stop) have your windows rolled down, car turn off (if practical) and your hands on the steering wheel at 10 & 2, When going for your documents, tell him/her what you are doing it and where they are, move slowly and deliberately. Advise him/her the reason you are doing all of this, is for his/her peace of mind and that you appreciate what he/she must face on a daily basis. You will be surprised at the reaction. I have avoided a few speeding tickets using these measures. Not that I was speeding or anything……….. ; )

      There you go Doc…. now you have hit on the reality of our common situation. Chapter 12 in the great book of Revelation tells us that Satan and his demonic hoard are cast out of heaven onto the earth. Woe unto the inhabitants of the earth. He’s here to raise hell and cause damage. He knows his time is short, and is completely obsessed with rage and hate.
      Here is where the rubber meets the road. Keep the faith and be ready to go the distance. THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!
      Watch for economic and political collapse world wide and the attempted imposition of GLOBAL GOVERNANCE. I say “attempted”, mainly because of the spirit of the U.S. citizen.
      With Obama at the helm we are going to have to fight for our liberty. He will happily capitulate. I do not believe that our military can be used against the people of this country, but be wary.

    @SNOWLEOPARD

    While I’m sure it is possile, I don’t think this was suicide by cop. (see below)

    @KKFEDUP

    Much like the Walmart shooting I think this story needs much more in depth investigation.

    Being from the greater metro Detroit area, I’ve heard the local news on this story. The day it happened they say its to early to determine a motive. Within days they claim a possible motive was a relative (brother) awaiting sentencing for a crime (murder). A couple days later a story comes out that it may be related to claims that he kept a 13 year old sex slave in a house that has conveniently burned down.

    I won‘t say Detroit doesn’t have problems with crime, or that this individual was squeaky clean but… something smells fishy to me.

Instead of some useless high speed rail trains, can we get a decent camera that will save some lives? Then you‘ll have something to connect up to Al Gore’s high-speed internet.Thanks.

Especially if there were more than one and they weren’t concerned on how many lives or dies. First guy comes in and takes out what he can and gets shot, then the second guy comes and so forth. They need shot guns behind the desk and bullet proof glass between them and the entrance. To all of you out there in Law Enforcement, THANKS for the escorts!

      May God bless those officers and their families. This latest rash of policemen being the targets of violence seems to be a very good indicator of a large increase in “anti-authority” behavior. I am not sure if it is economically driven or if it is just the symptoms of a breakdown in society. When policemen are the targets, there is no respect for law. When there is no respect for the law, anarchy is not far behind. With so many officers coming under attack in such a short period of time, I don’t think that these are isolated incidents. There was a news report of an entire police dept. resigning in a town in Mexico because of threats and intimidation by one of the drug cartels. I pray that it doesn’t happen in our country.

I feel real bad for all police as they are disrespected by the “top down” administration, while stuck in the line of fire of the “bottom up’ers.” The more the Jones and Piven type people try to get their revolution started, the greater in danger our police are.

      I believe police and firemen deserve our respect but to hold them to the same level as our military could be seen is disrespectful to our soliders. Police and firemen are faced with some serious and potentially life threatening situations but in most cases those incidents are rare but the biggest distinction is that every night (or at least every week), they are home with their families. I don’t mean to take away anything from fire and police but the sacrifices our soliders make are beyond comparison.

      No, the excuse of ‘poverty’ causing violence is a long-standing trick of Progressives to promote and further their agenda. They knew the long-term goal was to have the underbelly of society rise up against authority. Try to explain that hard work was the key to success, and you were told that you only got what you had because you were white, etc.
      Always Deamonize and Marginalize to silence the opposition. OR, AS OBAMA SAYS, your ‘enemies’. He is definitely a disiple of Alinsky.

      Look, both of my parents were poor. My mom had 7 siblings, and my dad had 6. No violence. No arrests. Nothing. It‘s the environment you’re brought up in. I worked in the ghettos, and they were the ‘only’ place I ever saw padlocks on bedroom doors. Can’t trust your half/siblings, I guess. Just think of living in that type of situation.
